For a small Minecraft server in 2026, plan on roughly $1 to $3 per GB of RAM per month before optional extras. The clearest $1-per-GB offers in the checked provider pages are PebbleHost and Sparked Host. A 2–4 GB plan is normally enough for a lightly populated vanilla server; modded servers commonly need 6–8 GB. Prices, hardware tiers, promotions and renewal terms change, so use the figures below as a comparison snapshot and confirm the final total at checkout.
What cheap Minecraft hosting costs in 2026
There is no official industry price index for Minecraft hosting. Current figures come from provider pages and review sites, and they do not always agree. Across 2026 buying guides, budget plans cluster around $1–$3 per GB of RAM per month. Another guide gives a much wider overall range of $2.50 to $96 per month, because the total depends on RAM, player capacity and premium hardware. For a mid-sized vanilla server hosting about 10–20 players, one 2026 estimate is $15–$25 per month.

RAM is the easiest way to compare plans, but it is not the whole specification. CPU generation, storage speed, geographic location, backups, DDoS protection, support and renewal pricing can make a more expensive plan perform better than a nominally cheaper one.
How to read a $1-per-GB offer
A $1-per-GB rate means the advertised base price is approximately one dollar for each gigabyte assigned to the server. It does not necessarily include a dedicated IP, automated backups, premium support or the provider’s fastest CPU tier. Check the plan’s minimum size and included features rather than multiplying the headline rate alone.

How much RAM your server needs
Vanilla survival and creative servers: 2–4 GB
Third-party 2026 guidance places ordinary vanilla servers in the 2–4 GB range. A 2 GB plan can suit a small group with modest view distance and limited plugins. Choose 4 GB when you expect more simultaneous players, larger exploration areas, several plugins or occasional performance spikes.
Modded servers: 6–8 GB
Modpacks usually require 6–8 GB because each mod adds world, entity and processing overhead. Very large packs or busy communities can need more, but the available budget evidence only establishes 6–8 GB as the common starting range. At roughly $1 per GB, that is about $6–$8 per month before extras; at $3 per GB, it is $18–$24.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Player count is only one variable
Two servers with the same number of players can consume different resources. Chunk view distance, simulation distance, redstone farms, mob counts, world size, plugins and mod complexity all affect CPU and memory use. Treat player limits in marketing copy as a ceiling, not a performance guarantee.
Budget hosts compared
| Provider | Reported entry price | What the source says | Confidence and caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| PebbleHost | $1 per GB per month | Official Minecraft page; Budget tier is described in 1 GB steps. | Medium. The page snapshot does not state a year; verify current checkout pricing and renewal terms. |
| Sparked Host | From $1 per month; approximately $1 per GB on Budget | Official budget page shows examples of 18 GB for $18.00 per month and 22 GB for $22.00 per month. | Medium. Confirm whether the selected location and hardware tier use the same rate. |
| Gravel Host | 2 GB $1.80; 3 GB $2.70; 4 GB $3.60 | Figures reported on the provider’s comparison page. | Low. Treat as a reported snapshot and check the live plan page. |
| Shockbyte | Conflicting reports: $2.79 for 1 GB with 30% off the first month, $3.99 base, and an older $1.99 Casual listing | Current and older pages and third-party reviews show materially different numbers. | Low. Ask for the recurring price after the promotion before ordering. |
| ScalaCube | 768 MB $2; 1.5 GB $5; another guide says a beginner plan is $2.50 per month | Values come from third-party 2026 guides, not one confirmed current tariff. | Low. Confirm RAM allocation, renewal price and whether the plan is Java, Bedrock or both. |
| BisectHosting | $5.99 per month for 2 GB in one guide; another lists a $2.99 starting price | Third-party guides disagree on the entry offer and plan size. | Low. Compare the exact product, billing term and renewal amount at checkout. |
These confidence labels describe how consistently the figures were reported, not a quality ranking. No independent benchmark or standards-body survey establishes a universal cheapest host.
Provider-by-provider guidance
PebbleHost: straightforward $1-per-GB budgeting
The official page advertises a Budget tier at $1 per GB per month, with 1 GB increments. That makes arithmetic simple: 2 GB is approximately $2, 4 GB approximately $4, and 8 GB approximately $8 before add-ons. A review table from WiseHosting also lists 2 GB at $2 and 8 GB at $8, which broadly supports the official rate. The review is roughly seven months old at the time of the snapshot, so it should not replace a live checkout quote.

Do not assume the provider’s higher hardware tiers use the same rate. PebbleHost Premium pricing could not be confirmed from its own pages; one review estimates about $2.25 per GB, while a fixed 10 GB plan at $29.99 implies about $3 per GB. Those figures are not reliable enough to use as a current price promise.
Sparked Host: low base price with hardware-tier questions
The official budget page presents pricing from $1 per month and describes the Budget tier at roughly $1 per GB. Its examples include 18 GB for $18.00 per month and 22 GB for $22.00 per month. Such large allocations may look attractive if you run a heavy modpack, but a high RAM number does not by itself prove better tick performance.
A third-party comparison describes the Budget tier as using older dual-Xeon hardware and says a Ryzen tier costs more than twice as much per GB. That hardware distinction is important for CPU-bound worlds, farms and modpacks. Treat it as a report to verify: select the exact node or CPU tier, location and recurring price before paying.
Gravel Host: unusually low reported small plans
A provider comparison page reports 2 GB for $1.80, 3 GB for $2.70 and 4 GB for $3.60. Those prices are below the common $1-per-GB benchmark for the first two sizes only because the plans are sold in a particular pricing structure. The source confidence is low, so check whether the amounts are promotional, require a term commitment, exclude tax or apply only to a specific region.
Shockbyte: resolve the promotion and renewal conflict
Shockbyte is the clearest example of why you should not copy a price from a comparison table. One report describes a 1 GB Dirt plan at $2.79 with 30% off the first month; another gives a $3.99 base price; an older page lists a 1 GB Casual plan at $1.99. These may represent different dates, products or promotions. Use the current budget page, put the plan in the cart, and record both the introductory charge and the next recurring invoice.

ScalaCube: small allocations may be restrictive
Third-party guides list 768 MB for $2, 1.5 GB for $5 and a separate beginner offer around $2.50 per month. Even the highest of those reported entry sizes is below the 2–4 GB range generally suggested for a comfortable vanilla server. A sub-1 GB plan may work for a test world or very small group, but confirm the actual RAM allocation and software support before treating it as a long-term server.
BisectHosting: conflicting entry points
One guide reports a shared-CPU budget plan from $5.99 per month for 2 GB, while another lists a $2.99 starting price. The difference could reflect separate products, a promotion or an outdated page. Compare like for like: RAM, CPU class, billing term, location, backups and renewal price.
What a server under $5 can realistically provide
| Budget | Likely allocation at about $1 per GB | Practical use | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| About $2 | 2 GB | Small vanilla world with a few players and conservative settings. | Growth, plugins and high view distance can exhaust memory. |
| About $3 | 3 GB | Small community server with a modest plugin set. | Check CPU limits and backup availability. |
| About $4 | 4 GB | More comfortable vanilla capacity for a small group. | Modpacks generally need more than this. |
| Under $5 at reported Gravel Host rates | Up to 4 GB at $3.60 | Potentially good value if the quoted plan and terms are still live. | Verify that the price is recurring and not region- or term-limited. |
Under-$5 hosting is realistic for a small vanilla server, not a guarantee of smooth performance for a large public community. A 6–8 GB modded setup usually starts above $5 unless a temporary discount applies.
Calculate the real monthly cost
Optional services can dominate the bill
Budget comparisons often show only the base container. DDoS protection, automated backups, a dedicated IP and priority support may be separate line items. One 2026 guide describes a $10 monthly plan rising to about $23 after adding DDoS protection at $8, automated backups at $5 and priority support at $5. The listed add-ons total $18, which would equal $28 when added to $10; that arithmetic mismatch is another reason to inspect the provider’s cart and determine whether discounts, bundles or different billing periods are involved.
Before ordering, write down three totals: the base plan, the monthly total with only the features you actually need, and the renewal total after any introductory discount. This prevents a low headline rate from becoming an unexpected recurring charge.

Promotions and prepaid terms
First-month discounts, coupon codes and multi-month prepayment can reduce the effective initial price without reducing the normal monthly rate. A 30% first-month discount, such as the one reported for one Shockbyte listing, should be recorded separately from the standard renewal price. If a page does not clearly state the renewal amount, treat the offer as unconfirmed.
Hardware, location and included features
CPU can matter more than another gigabyte
Minecraft’s main server thread is sensitive to CPU speed and sustained single-thread performance. More RAM helps prevent out-of-memory crashes, but it cannot compensate for a CPU that cannot process ticks quickly enough. Ask whether the plan uses shared CPU time, what processor family is assigned, and whether the advertised RAM is dedicated to your container.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose a nearby region
Physical distance adds network latency. Select a data-center region close to most players, then check whether that location has the same price and feature set. A cheaper distant node may feel worse than a slightly more expensive local one, especially for combat and redstone timing.
Check the operational extras
- Backups: Confirm frequency, retention, storage limits and whether restoring a backup is self-service.
- DDoS protection: Determine whether basic mitigation is included and what attacks or bandwidth levels are covered.
- Dedicated IP: Verify whether a fixed address costs extra and whether it is needed for your server type.
- Mod and plugin tools: Check supported loaders, one-click installers and version selection before committing to a modpack.
- Control panel and files: Ensure you can download the world, edit configuration files and migrate away if necessary.
How to buy the cheapest plan without a surprise bill
- Define the workload. Decide whether the server is vanilla or modded, estimate concurrent players and list required plugins or mods.
- Set a RAM floor. Start at 2–4 GB for a small vanilla server or 6–8 GB for a typical modpack, then leave room for growth.
- Shortlist comparable plans. Compare the same RAM size, CPU class, region and billing term. Do not compare a promotional 1 GB plan with a recurring 2 GB plan as if they were equivalent.
- Open the exact checkout page. Confirm the currency, tax, billing cycle, introductory discount, renewal price and minimum commitment.
- Audit included features. Look specifically for backups, DDoS mitigation, IP charges, support fees, storage limits and migration assistance.
- Read the refund terms. Save a copy of the policy shown when you order; policies can change.
- Test immediately. Upload or generate a disposable world, invite a few representative players, monitor tick rate and memory, and test a backup restore while the refund window is still open.
- Document your exit path. Download the world and configuration files so you can move hosts if performance or renewal pricing is unacceptable.
Refund windows and cancellation
One comparison reports a 72-hour refund window for PebbleHost and 24–48 hours for Sparked Host. These are reported terms, not a permanent guarantee. Read the current policy for exclusions such as account abuse, setup fees, add-ons or renewal payments, and note exactly when the clock starts. A refund policy is useful only if you can export your world and submit a request within the stated period.
Common budget-hosting pitfalls
Confusing RAM with performance
A plan can advertise abundant RAM while throttling CPU or disk I/O. If the server has plenty of free memory but the tick rate drops during exploration or automation, investigate CPU limits, simulation distance and entity counts instead of immediately buying more RAM.

Buying too little RAM for a modpack
Frequent crashes during startup, Java out-of-memory errors and long garbage-collection pauses indicate that the allocation is too small or the Java settings are unsuitable. Move from a 2–4 GB vanilla-sized plan toward the 6–8 GB range used by many modded setups, then retest with the same player load.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Ignoring backups
A host can advertise low-cost storage while charging separately for automated backups. If backups are not included, schedule your own downloads and keep at least one copy outside the host. Test restoration before your world becomes valuable.
Letting a promotion become the budget
Calculate the normal recurring invoice, not just the first charge. A plan that fits under $5 for one month may exceed the budget after a first-month discount expires or after required extras are added.
Assuming every plan supports your edition
Confirm Java Edition or Bedrock Edition support, supported server versions, mod-loader compatibility and cross-play requirements before payment. A cheap plan that cannot run your chosen software is not a bargain.
A practical decision framework
- Choose a $1-per-GB budget tier when you run a small vanilla world, need predictable scaling and can live without premium CPU features.
- Choose the lowest reported small-plan price only after confirming that the allocation, renewal price, region and backups match your needs.
- Pay for a higher CPU tier when tick latency, farms or mod processing matter more than maximum RAM per dollar.
- Spend above $5 when you need 6–8 GB for a modpack, a 10–20-player vanilla community, reliable automated backups or paid support.
- Reject the plan when the provider cannot state the recurring price, hardware class, refund policy or data-export process clearly.
Final checklist before checkout
- RAM matches your vanilla or modded workload.
- CPU tier and server location are specified.
- Base price and renewal price are both recorded.
- Promotional discounts have an end date.
- Backups, DDoS protection, IP addresses and support fees are itemized.
- Java/Bedrock and mod-loader compatibility are confirmed.
- Refund deadline and exclusions are understood.
- You know how to download and restore your world.
The best budget choice is not simply the lowest number on a comparison page. For most small vanilla servers, a verified 2–4 GB plan near $1 per GB is the sensible starting point. Modded servers should budget for 6–8 GB, and any server that matters should price backups and renewal charges before purchase. Because the published figures conflict and change, the final checkout screen—not an old review—should decide what you pay.
