Of the current plan details established here, Contabo has the lowest displayed monthly price, netcup offers a clear 12-month price and named locations, and Hetzner offers hourly billing with a monthly cap. These are not like-for-like plans, and the available evidence does not support a defensible top-five price ranking. It is also the largest stated resource bundle among the three plans compared here, so its price should not be treated as proof that it is cheaper for an equivalent workload. Check the selected location, checkout total, and renewal terms. Its “unlimited” traffic description is qualified by the provider’s discretion to throttle exceptionally high or disruptive use, and the plan lists a 200 Mbit/s port.

netcup’s VPS 500 G12.5 lists 2 x86 vCores, 4 GB RAM, and 64 GB SSD. Its displayed €9.50 monthly total includes 19% VAT and applies to a 12-month term; the pre-VAT figure is €8.26. The provider also offers one-, 12-, or 24-month contract choices, with longer commitments costing less. The quoted 12-month price should not be assumed to apply to other terms or every customer’s country.
Choose a location carefully: netcup says a server location cannot be changed after setup. Moving it requires a new order and manual data transfer. “No preference Europe” means assignment to a European data center based on capacity, not a guarantee of a particular city.

Hetzner’s CPX12 listing specifies 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB storage, and 20 TB of included traffic. Hourly billing is capped at a monthly price, with no minimum contract period. The provider distinguishes shared regular-performance and cost-optimized classes from dedicated general-purpose instances. These allocation models are not interchangeable: a shared vCPU count alone does not tell you the CPU capacity available under sustained load. The exact current CPX12 price was not reliably visible in the captured page, so compare it at the provider’s current checkout rather than infer a price.

How to choose a low-cost VPS in Europe
- Set the workload size. Estimate RAM, storage, and CPU needs for the application and operating system, allowing room for traffic spikes and routine maintenance. A plan with more listed resources may cost less than a smaller one, but the price alone does not establish equivalent performance.
- Choose the location for a reason. A nearby city can help reduce network distance to users; a required country may matter for data-handling decisions. A European data-center location by itself does not establish that a deployment meets every legal or compliance obligation.
- Compare the full price basis. Check VAT for your country, term length, monthly total, setup charges if any, and renewal price. The netcup example demonstrates how a pre-VAT amount and a 12-month inclusive price differ.
- Read the network allowance as a whole. Compare included traffic with port speed and any fair-use or throttling terms. “Unlimited” traffic does not mean an unrestricted port or guarantee that every traffic pattern is treated identically.
- Check what the plan leaves to you. Confirm IPv4 availability and cost, backups, support, and the storage capacity needed for the OS, application, logs, and data. The provider plan figures alone do not establish whether these extras are included.
- Match billing to the server’s lifespan. Hourly billing with a monthly cap can suit a short-lived test server; a longer commitment may lower the monthly price for a stable workload. Include the cost and effort of moving data if you may need another location later.
What the available comparison does not establish
These plan listings do not show how the providers perform under your application’s workload. They also do not establish an apples-to-apples price ranking across identical CPU allocation, locations, renewal terms, and network conditions.
