To charge a Galaxy phone wirelessly, first confirm that your exact model supports wireless charging. Then connect a compatible Qi charger to power and place the phone’s back in the center of the pad. If charging does not begin, check the phone’s position, power connection, and case.
Check whether your Galaxy model supports wireless charging
Wireless charging is not available on every Samsung phone. Samsung’s US compatibility and troubleshooting guidance lists supported Galaxy S, Note, and Z models, and says Galaxy A, XCover, and Tab devices are not compatible. Check your exact model in Samsung’s guidance or user manual rather than relying on the Galaxy name alone. Support lists can change, and availability may vary by region.
What you need
- A Galaxy phone model that supports wireless charging.
- A compatible Qi-certified wireless charger. Samsung says the charger is sold separately; see its wireless charging guidance.
- A suitable power source and the cable or adapter needed to connect the charger.
A charger may be a flat pad or a stand. Qi compatibility does not by itself guarantee a particular charging speed: Samsung says third-party charger speed and performance depend on the charger’s specifications and quality. Check that both your phone and charger support any fast-charging mode you expect, using Samsung’s third-party charger guidance as a reference.

- Connect the charger to power. Use its compatible cable and power adapter, and confirm the charger is powered.
- Place the phone on the charging surface. Center the phone’s back on the pad or stand and keep it in contact with the surface. Samsung advises placing the device in the center and ensuring there are no obstructions.
- Position a foldable correctly. Close the Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip and set it down with its rear side facing the charger.
- Check that charging starts. If there is no charging indicator, see the troubleshooting steps below.
If wireless charging does not start or keeps stopping
- Recheck model support. Confirm the exact phone model is listed for wireless charging; membership in the Galaxy family is not enough.
- Check power and alignment. Confirm the charger and cable are connected to power, then recenter the phone so its back rests on the charging surface.
- Remove potential obstructions. Take off a thick or magnetic case and remove accessories that could interfere, then try again.
- For intermittent charging, reseat the phone and check that the case and charger are compatible. Obstructions and charger compatibility can affect performance.
- If it still fails, check for phone software updates and follow the model-specific troubleshooting steps in Samsung’s US support guidance. Charging behavior can depend on the device, charger, and software.
What to expect from charging speed
There is no single wireless charging time or speed that applies to every Galaxy phone and charger. Samsung says speed can vary with use conditions, the environment, battery condition, device, and charger. A Qi-compatible pad is the basic requirement; faster charging depends on the capabilities and specifications of both the phone and charger. Verify the claimed charging mode and any required certification rather than assuming all Qi chargers charge at the same speed.

Charging another device: Wireless PowerShare
Wireless PowerShare is different from charging your phone on a pad: it lets certain Galaxy phones send power to another compatible device. It is available only on supported models. Samsung Canada’s Wireless PowerShare guide says the sharing phone needs at least 30% battery to turn the feature on. That threshold applies to PowerShare, not ordinary wireless charging from a pad.
