To change the interface on a Samsung Galaxy phone, start with Settings > Display > Navigation bar for buttons or gestures; use the Home and Lock screen controls for wallpapers and widgets; choose a Galaxy Theme for coordinated visual changes; or use Good Lock modules for deeper adjustments. The available controls depend on your device, carrier, region, and One UI version.
How do I change the UI on my Samsung phone?
Choose the route that matches what you want to change. Built-in settings handle navigation and everyday display controls; One UI Home handles Home and Lock screen content; Galaxy Themes coordinates supported visual elements; and Good Lock adds optional, more detailed controls through modules.

Menu names and availability are not identical across Galaxy devices. If a setting or module described below is missing, check your One UI version and your local Galaxy Store listing rather than assuming your phone supports it.
How do I change the navigation bar to gestures?
- Open Settings > Display > Navigation bar.
- Select Swipe gestures to navigate with swipes, or select Buttons to return to the on-screen navigation buttons.
- If you chose Buttons, use the available controls to select the button order your software offers.
Samsung documents different gesture behavior across versions. In its guide, One UI 6.0 supports separate swipe zones along the bottom edge. One UI 6.1 and later use side swipes for Back and bottom swipes for Home and Recents; Samsung says the swipe direction cannot be changed in One UI 6.1 or later. Later releases or device-specific menus may differ, so consult the current instructions for your software at Samsung’s navigation-bar support page.

How do I customize my Samsung Home screen?
One UI Home is Samsung’s preinstalled launcher, not an optional app you need to remove to personalize the interface. Samsung states that “One UI Home cannot be removed from your Galaxy phone and tablet.” Its built-in controls let you adjust supported Home and Lock screen content.
Change wallpaper or Lock screen style
Open the wallpaper or Lock screen controls on your device and select the available wallpaper and style options. The exact menu path and choices can vary by model and One UI version. Samsung’s One UI Home guide covers Home and Lock screen customization.

Add Home screen widgets
Use the Home screen’s widget controls to add supported widgets and arrange them. The widget selection and available layout controls depend on the apps and software installed on your phone.
Use Edge panels
If your device offers Edge panels, enable and customize them through the relevant display or panel controls. Their availability and settings are not universal across Galaxy models.

What changes with One UI 7?
Samsung’s One UI 7 materials describe refined grid choices, icon sizing and labels, landscape behavior, and changes to panel controls. The UK guide, updated 19 March 2026, notes that the default grid selection no longer includes 4×5 and 5×5 on One UI 7; that detail should not be treated as universal across all models or regions. How do I change the icons or theme on a Galaxy phone?
Galaxy Themes can apply a coordinated look. Depending on the selected theme, it may change wallpapers, app icons, designs in supported Samsung apps, sounds, some fonts, and aspects of the overall layout. A theme does not necessarily change every category, so review its detail page before applying it.

- Open Galaxy Themes and browse the available themes or icons.
- Open an item’s details and check what it includes and which elements it changes.
- Apply the item and review the result; use the same service to select another theme or restore a previous look if desired.
Samsung’s US guide says a Samsung account is required to use Galaxy Themes and that themes are not supported on Galaxy Tabs. It also says DeX themes are supported only on compatible devices running Android 16 with One UI 8.0, with customization limited to app icons. These are the compatibility conditions in that guide, not a guarantee of support on every device or in every region. Some icon packs may also leave individual app icons unchanged.
