On supported Galaxy devices, go to Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Theme and choose a light or dark style. For stronger contrast, use Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > High contrast keyboard. To use a photo as the keyboard background, Samsung documents a workflow with Keys Cafe and Theme Park for Australian-variant devices.
Choose a built-in light or dark keyboard theme

Open Settings.

Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings. If you cannot find the menu, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.”

Tap Theme and choose a light or dark option if it is available.

Samsung explicitly lists a light/dark Theme setting in its Galaxy tablet keyboard guidance. The settings area is also documented for phones and tablets in Samsung’s keyboard settings instructions, but the available controls can vary by device and software version. If Theme is missing, your model or current software may not offer that selector.

Use a high-contrast keyboard
For more visible key and background colors, open Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements, turn on High contrast keyboard, and choose a palette if one is offered. Samsung lists this as a keyboard-specific visibility feature in its Galaxy visibility enhancements guide.
Do not confuse High contrast keyboard with the separate High contrast theme accessibility setting. They are distinct controls; Samsung says the device-wide High contrast theme is unavailable on tablets.

Set a photo as the keyboard background
Samsung’s custom-image instructions are written for Australian-variant Galaxy devices. On a supported device in that market, the process uses two Galaxy Store apps, Keys Cafe and Theme Park:

In Keys Cafe, choose Style your own keyboard and enable the feature.

Create a theme, choose an image from Gallery, then download and name the design.

Tap the new theme to apply it.
These steps come from Samsung Australia’s custom keyboard background guide, last updated September 9, 2026. Availability outside Australia is not established by that guide. If the apps or options do not appear in your Galaxy Store or on your device, check compatibility for your model and software version rather than assuming the feature is universally supported.

A theme from Galaxy Themes may alter the visual design of Samsung apps, including the keyboard, but the scope depends on the individual theme. Check its description before applying it if keyboard appearance is your main reason for choosing it. To restore the default theme, open Galaxy Themes > Menu > My stuff > Themes > Default. Samsung explains theme coverage and the reset route in its Galaxy Themes support article.
