To change the password for a Wi-Fi hotspot broadcast by your Samsung Galaxy phone, open Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot, open the hotspot’s details or configuration, tap Password, enter the new password, and save if prompted. Menu labels can vary by model, software version, and region.
If you mean the password for your home Wi-Fi router, that is a different credential: change it in the router’s administration settings, not in the Galaxy phone’s saved Wi-Fi connection.
First identify which Wi-Fi password you want to change
A Galaxy phone can connect to a Wi-Fi network, and it can also create its own mobile hotspot. These are separate networks with separate passwords.
| If you mean… | Where the password is changed | Who needs the updated password |
|---|---|---|
| Your Galaxy phone’s mobile hotspot | The phone’s Mobile Hotspot settings | Devices joining the hotspot broadcast by the phone |
| Your home or office router’s Wi-Fi | The router’s administration settings, managed by the network administrator or provider | Devices joining that router’s Wi-Fi network |
Samsung’s Galaxy connection guidance explains hotspot settings, while its Wi-Fi connection guidance covers connecting to protected networks. If you do not administer the router, ask its administrator or your internet provider to change the router password.

Change the password for your Samsung phone’s hotspot
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
- Tap Mobile Hotspot.
- Open the hotspot’s information, details, or configuration section, then tap Password. Samsung’s US guide uses Information; other Samsung instructions show a Configure option, so the submenu name is not universal.
- Enter the new password and tap Save or confirm if the screen asks. Samsung Canada’s instructions describe entering the new details and tapping Save.
- Reconnect devices to the hotspot using the new password. They need the current hotspot password to join.
Samsung’s US support instructions and Canadian support instructions describe this general workflow. If your screen differs, search Settings for “Mobile Hotspot” and follow the matching hotspot controls; Samsung notes that screens and options vary by device and software.
What changing the hotspot password does—and does not do
A mobile hotspot creates a Wi-Fi network that shares your phone’s internet connection. Changing its password affects devices that connect to that phone-created network. It does not change the password for the household router your Galaxy connects to.

If another device cannot find the hotspot
- Check the Wi-Fi band: Samsung says 2.4 GHz is compatible with more devices, while 5 GHz can offer better performance. If a device cannot see the hotspot, try 2.4 GHz if your phone offers that option.
- Check whether the network is hidden: If the hotspot is configured as a hidden network, other devices may not see it in their available-network list. Turn off the hidden-network option if available, or add the network manually on the connecting device.
- Check the correct password: Make sure you changed Password in Mobile Hotspot settings, rather than only viewing a saved Wi-Fi network on the phone. Devices joining the hotspot must use its current password.
- Allow for model differences: Band and visibility controls vary. Samsung’s Galaxy S9+ manual documents 2.4 GHz and hidden-network options for that model; it is not a guarantee that every Galaxy has identical settings.
