If you want to turn off Samsung’s Game Optimization Service (GOS), the key distinction is that Samsung’s documented Game Booster controls change how games are managed; they are not a documented universal switch for disabling the underlying GOS service. On One UI 7, Samsung’s UK guide puts the overall setting at Gaming Hub → More options → Game Booster → Game optimisation, where you can choose Performance, Standard, or Battery saving. The available labels and paths depend on your device and software version.
Change Game optimisation on One UI 7
Samsung’s UK One UI 7 guide gives this route to the whole-device game optimisation setting:
- Open Gaming Hub.
- Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then Game Booster.
- Tap Game optimisation and choose Performance, Standard, or Battery saving.
These options adjust the balance between game performance and battery use. Choosing Performance changes the optimisation mode; Samsung’s guide does not describe it as disabling GOS. Samsung’s One UI 7 Game Booster guide notes that menus and feature availability can vary by software version, model, and region.

If you only want to change how a particular game runs, use Customisations for individual games in Game Booster, where available. Samsung lists controls for the game optimisation level, FPS, screen resolution, and frame booster. This lets you tune an individual title without changing the overall Game optimisation selection for all games.

Why older Galaxy instructions show a Labs setting
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 instructions, updated 12 February 2024, showed a different route: Game Launcher → More options → Game Booster → Labs → Alternate game performance management. Samsung also described opening the Game Booster panel while a game is running to reach the control.
That route is specific to the S23-era instructions, not a universal path. Samsung’s newer One UI 7 guide says the high-performance option formerly in Game Booster Labs moved to the top of the Game Booster settings menu. If your phone does not show the labels above, check the manual or current support instructions for your Galaxy model and software version rather than assuming the setting is missing or following a path for another device.

Does this turn off the GOS system service?
Not according to the current Samsung instructions cited here. They document Game Booster performance modes and per-game adjustments, but do not establish a universal method for fully disabling or removing the GOS system service. Changing Game optimisation to Performance—or choosing an older Alternate game performance management control—should therefore not be described as turning off GOS itself.
A Samsung Members reply from 1 November 2021 said the service could not be disabled through the suggested app-settings route on a Galaxy M21 running Android 11 and One UI 3.1. That is historical, device-specific community guidance, not proof of how current Galaxy models behave. Read the M21 discussion for that context.

Know the performance trade-off
Samsung cautions on its Galaxy S23 support page: “Please note: Activating game performance management may increase heat or battery consumption while the game is in progress.” That is a warning about possible effects, not a promised FPS gain or a quantified battery or temperature estimate. Which setting should you choose?
- Performance: Choose this if you want to prioritize game performance over battery conservation; it does not amount to a confirmed GOS shutdown.
- Standard: Use this if you prefer the standard Game optimisation balance.
- Battery saving: Choose this when conserving battery matters more than prioritizing game performance.
- Per-game customisation: Use it when only one title needs a different optimisation level, FPS, resolution, or frame booster setting, and the controls are available on your phone.
