To change the appearance of text in Samsung Notes, select the text and use the formatting toolbar. To change the font used across your Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings and search for Font size and style, then tap Font style. Those are separate controls: one formats note text, while the other changes device font settings.
Choose the change you want

The exact options depend on the app version, device model, software version, and—according to Samsung—wireless service provider. Samsung cautions that available screens and settings can vary across those factors. Samsung’s font settings guidance and its regional Samsung Notes editing guide describe related but not identical controls, so do not assume every device offers the same font-family choices inside a note.
Format typed text in Samsung Notes on a phone or tablet
Change text already in a note
- Open the note in Samsung Notes.
- Press and hold the text, or select the passage, so the text you want to change is highlighted.
- Use the editing or formatting toolbar shown in the app. Depending on your version, the listed options can include text style, font color, font background, font size, lists, alignment, and indentation.
- Choose the formatting option and apply it to the selected passage.
Set formatting while typing
- Open a note and tap in its text input area.
- Use the toolbar beneath the input area to choose from the formatting controls available in your version of Samsung Notes.
- Continue typing; text starts with default formatting and can be adjusted from that toolbar.
If your toolbar does not match these descriptions, update Samsung Notes and check your device’s software and model. Samsung notes that features may be grayed out or unavailable without the latest Notes version. The available font-family behavior is not described consistently across Samsung’s regional support pages, so rely on the controls actually shown in your app.

Change the Galaxy phone or tablet font
- Open Settings and search for Font size and style. The route to a setting can vary by device and software version, so Settings search is a practical way to find it.
- Tap Font style to select a font or download one. Samsung says choosing Download fonts opens Galaxy Store.
- To change the size rather than the style, adjust the font-size slider on that settings screen.
This setting concerns the device’s font settings, not just a passage in one note. If your goal is only to emphasize, recolor, or resize selected text, use Samsung Notes’ toolbar instead.

Use text controls in Samsung Notes for PC
Samsung’s PC instructions describe a separate Text mode. In that mode, the app allows text size and color changes and bold, italic, and underline formatting; lists are also available. Typed fonts, handwriting, and page appearance are different
- Handwriting: Handwriting and drawing controls are distinct from typed-text formatting. Samsung’s PC guidance describes handwriting style changes in terms of size or color, not typed-font selection.
- Page color and templates: These change a note’s page appearance rather than the formatting of typed text. Samsung’s notes and PDFs organization guidance covers these page options.
- PDF imports: Samsung says a template cannot be applied to a note imported from PDF. On PC, you can annotate a PDF with text boxes, but cannot edit its existing PDF text.
If a font or formatting option is missing
- Confirm whether you are changing text in a note or the device-wide font setting; they are separate routes.
- Update Samsung Notes, then check the app toolbar again.
- Look for device and software differences. Samsung says settings and screens vary by provider, software version, and model, and some Notes features may be unavailable or grayed out.
