To join your CenturyLink Wi‑Fi, select the network name (SSID) on your device and enter the Wi‑Fi key printed on the modem label, unless you changed it. To manage the modem, connect to your home network, visit http://192.168.0.1, and sign in with the separate admin username and password. These credentials serve different purposes.
Choose the right way to access CenturyLink Wi‑Fi
| What you want to do | Where to go | Credentials |
|---|---|---|
| Connect a phone, computer, or other device | The device’s Wi‑Fi settings | Network name (SSID) and Wi‑Fi key/passphrase |
| Manage modem or wireless settings | Modem portal at http://192.168.0.1 |
Modem admin username and password |
| Check an outage or reboot the modem remotely | My CenturyLink app | Use the app’s account sign-in |
The Wi‑Fi key connects devices to the network; the admin password opens the modem settings portal. CenturyLink says both default credential pairs are printed on the modem label. CenturyLink explains the credential difference.
Connect a device to your network
-
Check that the modem’s internet light is green.
-
Find the SSID and Wi‑Fi key on the label on the side, bottom, or back of the modem. If you customized either one, use the updated details instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSpecial offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Open Wi‑Fi or wireless settings on the device, select the matching SSID, enter the key, and choose Connect or Join. Most devices can remember the network for later automatic connection.

If you forgot the Wi‑Fi name or key
If you can still sign in to the modem portal, check the wireless settings there for the customized details. If you cannot access the admin login, CenturyLink directs customers to technical support for help. Avoid resetting the modem just because a device will not connect; a reset is for a different problem—recovering access after a forgotten custom admin password.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Keep the modem label: CenturyLink warns that its default admin credentials may not be retrievable if lost. If you forgot a custom admin password, the company says you must reset the modem before using the defaults printed on the label. A reset clears modem settings, so it is not a first step for a routine Wi‑Fi connection issue. Read CenturyLink’s reset guidance before proceeding.
Turn on Wi‑Fi or make the network visible
If wireless is disabled or the network is not appearing, CenturyLink’s general modem-interface workflow is:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →-
Sign in to the modem portal and open Wireless Setup.
-
Enable the wireless radio and apply the change.
-
Open SSID Setup, select the relevant network, enable Broadcast SSID, and apply again.
The wireless light should turn green when Wi‑Fi is enabled. The exact menus, available frequency choices, and settings vary by modem model. Use the guide for your specific modem if the labels or options differ. CenturyLink’s wireless setup instructions describe the model-dependent workflow.

- Compatible with major cable internet providers including Xfinity and Cox. NOT compatible with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, CenturyLink, DSL providers, DirecTV, DISH and any bundled voice service. Best for cable provider plans up to 800Mbps.
Change the Wi‑Fi name or password
In the modem’s wireless setup tools, you can update the network name (SSID), view or change the key/passphrase, and inspect settings such as the security type. After changing the name or key, devices using the old details may need to reconnect with the updated credentials. Because the interface and steps depend on the modem, consult the guide for your model rather than assuming every screen is the same. CenturyLink’s modem and router help pages provide model-specific support.

Troubleshoot connection and speed problems
Separate a Wi‑Fi problem from an internet-service problem
Compare performance on a device connected to the modem by Ethernet with performance over Wi‑Fi. Check connection status in modem settings or run a speed test. If wired performance is about as slow as Wi‑Fi, the issue may be the connection reaching the modem. If Wi‑Fi is much slower, focus on the wireless link or coverage. CenturyLink describes overall Wi‑Fi speed as depending on both the wired connection to the modem and the wireless connection from the modem to the device. See CenturyLink’s slow-internet troubleshooting guidance.
If a device will not join
-
Confirm that you selected the correct SSID and entered the current Wi‑Fi key.
-
Refresh Wi‑Fi on the modem, then try again.
-
On the device, forget the saved network and reconnect using the current credentials.
-
WPS may connect certain devices without manually entering the password.

See CenturyLink’s Wi‑Fi troubleshooting steps for additional model-dependent guidance.
Check outages and reboot the modem
The My CenturyLink app can check for local outages and a resolution timeline, and it can remotely reboot the modem. A reboot is also available through the modem’s interface and can often help with connection or wireless problems. Check for an outage before treating a service interruption as a Wi‑Fi settings issue. CenturyLink lists the app’s features here; its modem reboot guide covers the reboot option.
If coverage is weak in parts of the home
If the wired connection works but the wireless signal is unstable in some areas, a Wi‑Fi extender may help increase in-home coverage. It is intended for weak-signal areas, not an outage or slow service connection. CenturyLink’s guidance does not identify a specific extender or establish compatibility with every modem, so confirm compatibility for your equipment before choosing one. Read CenturyLink’s Wi‑Fi extender guidance.
