No—not by itself. Centrus Energy’s $4.5 billion backlog is a large, long-dated measure of expected work and deliveries, but it is not $4.5 billion of cash, profit or guaranteed revenue. At the rounded $143 share price, the backlog supports a business case to investigate; it does not establish that the stock is fairly valued or a buy.
What does “down 69%” mean for Centrus?
Centrus’s investor-relations historical-price data shows a closing price of $142.44 on October 9, 2026. A secondary market-data summary lists a 52-week high of $464.25. Comparing those figures, the October 9 close was about 69% below that high. The $143 in the headline is a rounded recent price, not a live quote.
A large decline can make a stock worth reassessing, but it does not tell you what the shares are worth today. The high is a reference point—not an estimate of fair value, a floor, or evidence that the stock must recover.

What is included in the $4.5 billion backlog?
In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Centrus defines backlog as estimated future revenue from work performed or from LEU and uranium deliveries. The company reported $4.5 billion of backlog at June 30, up from $3.8 billion at December 31, 2025. The work and deliveries extend over different periods by segment:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Segment | Backlog at June 30, 2026 | Stated horizon |
|---|---|---|
| LEU | $3.7 billion | Through 2040 |
| Technical Solutions | $0.8 billion | Through 2034 |
| Total | $4.5 billion | Through 2040 |
These figures describe estimated future business, not a near-term revenue pool. Backlog does not show when all the work will be performed, how much of it will convert to recognized revenue, what it will cost to fulfill, or how much cash or profit Centrus will ultimately retain.
How firm is the LEU backlog?
The $3.7 billion LEU backlog needs a closer look. About $3.0 billion consists of contingent LEU and HALEU sales commitments; $2.4 billion of that contingent amount is under definitive agreements. Centrus’s filing says these commitments tend to depend on operational milestones and support for potential capacity construction at Piketon.

A definitive agreement is more concrete than an uncommitted opportunity, but it does not remove the operational and capacity conditions described in the filing. The word “backlog” therefore does not mean every listed sale is unconditional or ready to turn into a delivery.
For scale, Centrus reported roughly $0.1 billion in customer advances and deferred revenue in its LEU segment. Those amounts represent cash received for future deliveries; they should not be confused with the much larger backlog, most of which remains future work or delivery obligations.

What does the signed $900 million DOE award actually secure?
On July 1, 2026, Centrus subsidiary American Centrifuge Operating (ACO) signed a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) task order for HALEU production. The $900 million firm-fixed-price amount is paid incrementally as performance-based milestones are met. It is therefore a signed award, but not $900 million of immediate cash or revenue.
- Required work: Expand the Piketon facility and make an initial delivery of one metric ton of HALEU UF6 by July 2032.
- Payment timing: Larger portions of the stated amount are tied to 2028 and completion of the initial phase in 2031.
- Additional options: DOE has two discretionary options, each covering five additional metric tons at $17 million per metric ton. If both are exercised, they would add up to $170 million; neither should be treated as guaranteed work.
The award strengthens the case that Centrus has government-backed demand to pursue. The value to shareholders still depends on meeting milestones, expanding capacity, making deliveries and managing the costs of doing so.

Why is another DOE contract a risk to the backlog thesis?
The signed production task order is not the only DOE-related item in Centrus’s Technical Solutions backlog. The company’s June 30, 2026 filing says its proposed FY2027 DOE budget did not include further funding to operate the legacy HALEU cascade, which represents about $0.8 billion of Technical Solutions backlog. The filing also says DOE had communicated that it did not currently intend to exercise further options.

Centrus said it was working with DOE on agreements that could allow private commercial operation, but cautioned that there was no assurance an agreement would be reached. A brief three-month Option 1b covers maintenance and storage, not production. This funding and option risk is separate from the signed $900 million production task order.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
There is also no assurance that every future enrichment opportunity will be awarded to Centrus. The filing says the company was not selected for a DOE LEU Production Contract task order in January 2026. It remained eligible to compete for future task orders, but the filing said no additional funding had been requested or announced.

Backlog is an input to a valuation, not a substitute for one. To judge whether $143 per share is attractive, an investor would need estimates of the cash flows Centrus can earn from its work, when those cash flows arrive and how much investment and risk stand between the contracts and delivery.
- Revenue conversion: How much contingent LEU and HALEU business meets its milestones and becomes deliveries?
- Timing and funding: When do customer payments and DOE milestone payments arrive, and what appropriations or option decisions are needed for government-linked work?
- Costs and margins: What are the costs of expanding capacity and fulfilling contracts, and what margins remain after those costs?
- Execution: Can Centrus expand the Piketon facility and meet production and delivery milestones?
- Capital and dilution: How much financing may be needed, and could it increase the share count?
- Per-share value: What is the estimated value of the resulting cash flows after accounting for timing, risk and all outstanding share classes?
Centrus reported 2025 revenue of $448.7 million and net income of $77.8 million in its 2025 results release. Those are historical company results, not forecasts of the margins or cash flows that the 2026 backlog will produce. The filing reported 19,233,658 Class A shares and 719,200 Class B shares outstanding as of August 1, 2026. A valuation should account for both reported share counts and possible future financing; dividing backlog by shares would not produce a meaningful per-share value.
The evidence available here does not establish Centrus’s intrinsic value at $143. The backlog is substantial, but its duration, contingency, funding exposure, delivery requirements and unknown margins mean a buy decision depends on an investor’s own assumptions about cash conversion and risk—not on the headline total or the stock’s distance from its high.
