This is an expansion rather than a standalone game. You will need to own Caves of Qud before launching Diaspora, and the announcement does not establish a separate physical, soundtrack or boxed edition.

The Steam launch build expands character creation, exploration and traversal across Qud’s handcrafted and procedurally generated science-fantasy world. The announced systems include:

The announcement does not provide a complete item list, balance sheet or final specification for each system, so individual mechanics may change during Early Access.

What Early Access means for Diaspora
Freehold Games says the expansion is launching unfinished by design, not as a reduced version of a completed release. Caves of Qud combines many interlocking systems with highly emergent outcomes; the team wants players to stress-test those interactions in real play and to retain enough development time to meet its quality standard. In its October 15, 2026 launch announcement, the studio said it is entering Early Access “to give the time and space needed for our vision to come to fruition.”
For buyers, that means the December build is a playable starting point rather than a promise that every announced feature is present on day one. Save compatibility, balance, quests and systems can change as development proceeds. The stated plan keeps Early Access running through 2027.

Post-launch roadmap
The team has outlined a broad set of additions for the Early Access period. Planned content includes:
- A migrant-influx questline involving Je’ome the Bounty.
- Foxen and Snailfolk factions.
- Roaming mega-caravans.
- Underground villages.
- Large multi-zone dungeons or arcological spaces.
- Dynamic quests.
- New creatures, items and item modifications.
- Additional biomes and ingredients.
- Diseases and fungal infections.

The roadmap is a development plan, not a dated schedule. The announcement does not assign release dates or guarantee that every listed feature will arrive in a particular update, so prospective players should treat the list as the intended direction for 2027 development.
