What Cave Horror Project 2 requires
Cave Horror Project 2 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2. The Modrinth project listing identifies the loader as Forge 1.19.2 and marks the pack for both client and server use. A normal client download is not a server installation: the server should be built from the pack’s separate Server Pack so that its mods, configurations, libraries, and launch files are present together.

Which release should you install?
CurseForge lists Cave Horror Project 2 v1.5.2 as the latest release in the available listing and shows a separate “Cave Horror Project 2 v1.5.2 Server Pack.” That release is dated June 15, 2026. The same version number must be selected for the server and for every player’s client profile.
Earlier entries shown in the version history are v1.5.1 (April 20, 2026), v1.5 (February 15, 2026), and v1.4.5 (October 8, 2025). An older release can still be used if every participant deliberately installs that same release and its matching Server Pack. Do not update only the server or only the clients.

Before you install: choose a hosting method
You can run the server on a computer you administer or use a managed host that exposes a modpack installer in its control panel. The project sources document the managed-panel workflow in detail, while they do not publish a complete self-hosted command sequence, hardware benchmark, player-capacity guarantee, or port-forwarding recipe. Treat CPU, storage, network, and player-count planning for a self-hosted installation as variables to test with your own group.

Self-hosted setup, step by step
1. Select one exact release and obtain its Server Pack
- Open the Cave Horror Project 2 files on CurseForge.
- Select the release you intend to run. For the current listing, that is v1.5.2, dated June 15, 2026.
- Download the file explicitly named “Cave Horror Project 2 v1.5.2 Server Pack,” or the equivalent Server Pack for the older release you selected.
- Keep the download associated with that release. Do not combine it with a different version’s mods or configuration files.
The Server Pack listing establishes which artifact to use, but the authoritative project pages do not publish a universal command-line recipe or guarantee particular launch-script filenames. After extraction, use the launch script or command included in the pack you downloaded rather than copying instructions from a different release.
2. Prepare a clean server directory
Create a new directory used only for this server. Extract the complete Server Pack into it, preserving the directory structure. The libraries, mods, configs, and launch files should remain together. A clean directory makes it easier to identify missing files and to roll back to a known release.
- Do not extract the server pack over an unrelated Forge server.
- Do not copy a player’s client profile into the server directory.
- Do not delete or rename pack files unless the pack’s own instructions require it.
- Keep a separate copy of the original downloaded archive so you can restore a clean installation.
3. Install or select Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 with Forge
The server and clients need Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 and Forge. Forge is the mod loader; CurseForge support explains that a modloader loads mods and helps ensure they function correctly. Use the Forge build expected by the selected pack rather than choosing an arbitrary newer or older build.
For a self-hosted machine, install the Java runtime required by the Forge server package and keep it available to the launch script. The project sources do not state a Java major-version requirement, so do not infer one from another modpack. If the supplied launcher reports a Java error, follow the version guidance included with that downloaded pack or the Forge installation it uses.

4. Run the supplied launch file once
Start the server with the launch script or command included in the Server Pack. The exact filename and command are release-specific and are not stated on the project listings. The first run normally creates the server’s generated files and may stop while waiting for the Minecraft EULA decision.

Read the console output rather than assuming a particular script name. If the command immediately reports that Java is missing, point the launcher to the installed Java runtime. If it reports missing libraries or classes, return to the clean Server Pack extraction and check that the pack was not partially copied.
5. Accept the Minecraft EULA
When the first launch generates the EULA file, open it, change the EULA setting to indicate acceptance, save it, and run the same supplied launch command again. Only accept the EULA if you agree to Minecraft’s terms. If no EULA file appears, review the console for an earlier Java, permission, or extraction error instead of creating unrelated files by hand.
6. Set a practical memory allocation
CurseForge documents 4 GB (4096 MB) as the default allocation for modpacks and advises users not to lower it below 4 GB. Use that as a starting baseline for the server where the machine has enough available memory. Leave memory for the operating system and other services; assigning every installed gigabyte to Minecraft can make the host unstable.
Memory allocation is not a published guarantee of a particular player count. Watch the server log and operating-system memory usage while loading the world and during a normal session. Repeated out-of-memory errors indicate that the allocation or the host’s available memory is insufficient for the workload, but increasing the value cannot compensate for a missing mod, an incorrect Forge installation, or a different configuration problem.

7. Wait for a ready server, then test locally
Let the console finish loading and reach its ready state before attempting to connect. Create or use a new test world first. Join from a client profile that exactly matches the server and verify that terrain loads, the expected mods appear, and ordinary movement and interaction work. A short test catches mismatched files before other players build progress on the server.
8. Make the server reachable to players
Share the server address only after the local test succeeds. The project sources do not publish a port-forwarding recipe, firewall rule, or guaranteed network configuration, so those details depend on your operating system, router, and internet provider. Open only the access required for the Minecraft server, and confirm that your firewall allows the server process. If outside players cannot connect while a local player can, investigate network reachability separately from mod compatibility.
Managed-host installation with Pine Hosting’s documented panel
A managed host can remove much of the file extraction and process-management work. Pine Hosting documents the following panel flow for this pack. Labels can change as the provider updates its interface, so use the panel’s current wording if it differs slightly.
- Log in to the hosting control panel and select the server.
- Make sure the server is offline before changing its modpack installation.
- Open the Modpack tab.
- Choose CurseForge as the source.
- Locate Cave Horror Project 2.
- Select the release you want, currently v1.5.2 in the listed files.
- Leave Wipe Server Files disabled unless you intentionally want existing server files deleted.
- Install the modpack and wait for the panel to complete the file operation.
- Start the server from the console.
After installation, install the same release on each player’s launcher. A panel installation does not make a client compatible automatically. Preserve the server’s existing files when updating unless you have a verified backup and deliberately intend to replace the world or configuration.

Client installation and version matching
Every player needs a launcher profile containing Cave Horror Project 2 with Minecraft 1.19.2, Forge, and the exact server release. Pine Hosting’s support guidance states that a launcher must support the server’s version and installed modpacks in order to connect.

- Check the Minecraft version shown by the profile: it must be 1.19.2.
- Check that the profile uses Forge, not Fabric, NeoForge, or an unmodded installation.
- Check the modpack release number against the server, including the patch number.
- Allow the launcher to finish downloading all files before starting the game.
- Remove or disable extra mods added outside the pack while diagnosing a connection failure.
The safest troubleshooting comparison is between a fresh client profile for the selected release and a server installed from its dedicated Server Pack. This avoids hidden leftovers from an earlier version.

Version mismatch
The most common cause is a difference in Minecraft, Forge, or modpack version. A client on Minecraft 1.19.2 with the wrong Forge build, or on v1.5.1 while the server runs v1.5.2, can be rejected before the world loads. Read both the client profile details and the server startup log; do not rely on a launcher icon or a shortened profile name.
Wrong or incomplete server files
If the server was made by copying a client instance, or if files from two releases were merged, reinstall from the matching Server Pack. Keep the pack’s libraries, mods, configs, and launch files together. A clean extraction is usually faster and more reliable than trying to identify every missing or extra file manually.
Unsupported launcher
A launcher must be able to run the server’s Forge and modpack combination. If a launcher does not support the installed pack, use one that can install the exact Cave Horror Project 2 release, or follow the pack’s supported installation method. Changing only the server will not make an incompatible launcher work.
Insufficient memory
Keep the modpack allocation at or above CurseForge’s 4 GB (4096 MB) baseline where practical. Look for out-of-memory messages, repeated crashes during world loading, or the process being terminated by the operating system. If the host cannot provide that baseline while leaving room for the operating system, move the server to a machine or plan with more available memory rather than repeatedly restarting it.

Server is not ready or not reachable
A client cannot join while the server is still loading. Wait for the ready message in the console and test locally. If local access works but remote access fails, check the host firewall, router or provider network settings, and the address being shared. Those network steps are environment-specific and are not defined by the modpack’s project listings.
Accidental provider wipe
On Pine Hosting, enabling Wipe Server Files deletes existing files as part of the installation operation. Leave it disabled for a normal install or update. Use a wipe only when deleting the existing world and configuration is intentional and you have preserved any data you need.

Safe updates and rollback
- Record the current server release and make a verified backup of the world and important configuration.
- Choose the target release and download its matching Server Pack.
- Install the target release in a separate directory, or use the provider’s documented update process without enabling an unintended wipe.
- Update every client profile to the same Minecraft, Forge, and modpack versions before asking players to join.
- Start the updated server, watch the console for errors, and test with a copy of the world when possible.
- Keep the previous server directory and backup until the new release has been used successfully.
CurseForge’s visible history shows that releases have changed several times: v1.4.5 in October 2025, v1.5 in February 2026, v1.5.1 in April 2026, and v1.5.2 in June 2026. That cadence is a reason to record the exact version rather than describing an installation simply as “the latest pack.”
What the published information does not guarantee
- No authoritative project source in the available material specifies a server CPU minimum.
- No source guarantees a maximum or recommended player count.
- No source publishes a complete self-hosted command line that applies to every Server Pack release.
- No source supplies a universal port-forwarding or firewall procedure.
- The 4 GB figure is a launcher allocation baseline, not a promise that every world or player group will perform identically.
Measure those factors with the world, view distance, number of players, and hardware you actually intend to use. Keep notes on startup time, memory use, tick delays, and disconnects so that changes can be evaluated rather than guessed.
Where to get help
The Cave Horror Project 2 project page directs users to its Discord for help and suggestions. Include the exact modpack release, Minecraft version, Forge version, hosting method, and the relevant server or client log excerpt when asking for assistance. Do not post credentials or private addresses. If the issue is a panel installation, also include whether the server was offline and whether Wipe Server Files was enabled.

- Server and clients are all on Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2.
- Forge is installed on both sides and is the build expected by the selected pack.
