Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is scheduled to launch on October 15, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Konami describes it as a 2D action-exploration game set in Paris in 1499, starring Rose Belmont. It has not launched as of October 13, 2026, so a definitive review of its combat, level design or performance is not yet possible.

What is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a 2D action-exploration game developed jointly by Konami and Evil Empire, with advisory help from Motion Twin. Konami places the story in Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. The city is under attack by monsters, and a looming castle forms part of the threat Rose Belmont must face.

Rose is described as Trevor Belmont’s successor and wields the Vampire Killer. Konami’s official site presents the story as one of her growth, alongside faster, more fluid gameplay. Those are the publisher’s descriptions; they do not establish how the finished game’s combat or progression will feel in practice. Konami’s official game site

What do previews suggest about the gameplay?

PlayStation.Blog’s July 17 hands-on report says the game steers away from roguelite permadeath and procedurally generated levels. That is an attributed preview observation, not a conclusion from a completed review, and it does not by itself establish the quality or depth of the exploration. PlayStation.Blog’s hands-on report

The available evidence is not enough to judge level quality, navigation and backtracking, combat depth, difficulty balance, performance or overall value. Those are the areas a full review should test after launch. In particular, the Vampire Killer’s role in movement as well as combat, enemy and boss variety, and the readability and atmosphere of the Paris setting remain questions for hands-on play.

What should a full review test?

  • Exploration: Whether the levels reward discovery, how navigation works, and whether backtracking feels purposeful.
  • Whip and combat: How responsive movement and attacks feel, and how the Vampire Killer functions as both a weapon and a traversal tool.
  • Encounters: Whether enemies and bosses offer meaningful variety, and how the difficulty is balanced.
  • Presentation: Whether the art direction supports the Paris setting, while keeping characters, hazards and combat readable.

Until those points have been tested in the released game, the fairest description is a release briefing with limited preview context—not a verdict on whether the game is “bloody good.”
