The Notre Dame organ puzzle is solved by pressing the zodiac keys in ascending order of the candle counts shown in the Stained Glass Gallery. The current guide-verified order is Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, Sun & Moon, Leo, Cancer, then Aries. Use that sequence as a shortcut, but treat the candles in your own run as authoritative if the gallery layout differs.
The solution at a glance
In Notre Dame, the apparent piano is a floor organ with oversized keys marked by zodiac and celestial symbols. It is not a tune-recognition challenge: the symbols do not need to be played according to musical pitch. The clue is in the Stained Glass Gallery, where each matching symbol has a visible number of lit candles beneath it. Press the organ keys from the fewest candles to the most.

Where the clue and organ are located
Read the Stained Glass Gallery first
The gallery is the puzzle’s information source. Look beneath each stained-glass symbol and count only the candles that are visibly lit. Record the symbol beside each count before returning to the organ. This prevents a common mistake: assuming that the symbols should be played left to right, by their position in the room, or by an imagined melody.

Find the Great Organ Room
The playable instrument is on the floor of the Great Organ Room in the Notre Dame area. Its keys are large enough to span much of the chamber, and several are positioned at the extreme edges. The far-right Pisces key and far-left Aries key are the two locations most often cited as movement problems.
Have Air Dash available
The walkthroughs from Games.gg identify Air Dash as the movement ability needed to reach those outer keys. If you cannot land on Pisces or Aries, check that Air Dash is unlocked and equipped before attempting the sequence. The requirement is about reaching the keys, not about changing the order or timing of the puzzle.
How to enter the nine-symbol sequence
- Inspect every symbol in the gallery. Count the lit candles below Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, Sun & Moon, Leo, Cancer, and Aries. Do not count unlit candle models or decorative lights.
- Translate counts into an order. Arrange the symbols from one candle through nine candles. In the fixed order reported by the current guides, this produces Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, Sun & Moon, Leo, Cancer, and Aries.
- Enter the Great Organ Room. Stand where the floor keys are visible and plan a route that includes both edges of the chamber. Positioning yourself centrally before the first input reduces unnecessary backtracking.
- Use Air Dash for the outer keys. The cited walkthroughs use Air Dash to reach Pisces on the far right and Aries on the far left. Make sure the dash carries you onto the key rather than past it.
- Press one key at a time. Begin with the symbol associated with one candle, then continue upward. AllThingsHow reports no time limit, so there is no advantage to rushing between activations.
- Watch for confirmation. A correct completion produces a visible beam or flash. Treat that visual response as confirmation that all nine entries were accepted.
- Stop immediately after the completion effect. The organ sequence is finished at the flash; the next objective is the newly opened route beneath the nearby stairs.
Why the symbols are not musical notes
The organ resembles a piano, which leads many players to search for a melody or to compare the apparent pitch of each key. That approach is unrelated to the clue. Candle quantity determines the sequence, while the zodiac artwork identifies which physical key corresponds to each count. A key that sounds higher or lower does not gain priority because of its sound.

This distinction also explains why memorizing a visual left-to-right pattern can fail. The fixed list is a convenience drawn from contemporary guides, whereas the in-game instruction is numerical: count the candles and press in ascending order. If your version or run presents a different arrangement, copy what is displayed in that run instead of forcing the published list.
What happens when an input is wrong
An incorrect key breaks the attempt. The sequence does not resume from the last successful symbol; you must start again with the one-candle symbol and enter all nine symbols in order. Destructoid explicitly describes the wrong-key behavior as starting from scratch, and Games.gg likewise treats the puzzle as a complete restart.
A reliable recovery routine
- Move away from the keys and let the failed attempt clear.
- Return to the gallery and verify the candle counts, especially for symbols that are easy to confuse at a distance.
- Reconfirm the two edge destinations, Pisces and Aries, before beginning again.
- Start at Libra when using the fixed guide order, or at whichever symbol has one candle in your own gallery.
- Walk or dash deliberately. There is no timer, so accuracy is more valuable than speed.
Opening the hidden route after the flash
The completion effect opens a concealed passage near the plaque and stair area. Leave the Great Organ Room through the left exit, then return to the stairs and the plaque. Destructoid quotes the plaque as saying, “Beneath these stairs lies our order’s greatest sin.” That line points to the floor or hatch that becomes accessible after the organ is solved.

- Travel back to the plaque beside the stairs.
- Look for the opened floor section or hatch beneath the stairs.
- Descend into the corridor and follow it to the altar.
The corridor ends at an altar containing War and Famine, the Legendary pair of dual swords. The organ puzzle is therefore a progression gate for a weapon reward rather than a cosmetic music room secret.

There are no separate puzzle solutions; the difference is how you obtain the order. The comparison below helps decide which method is safest in practice.

I cannot reach Pisces or Aries
Check Air Dash first. The cited walkthroughs specifically use it for the far-right Pisces and far-left Aries keys. Approach from a stable platform, aim for the center of the oversized key, and avoid dashing again until the character has landed.

Recount the candles in your Stained Glass Gallery. The contemporary guides agree on the published order, but they also warn that a randomized or different run should be solved from its visible counts. A single swapped count changes the required position of that symbol.

I do not see a timer
That is expected. AllThingsHow reports no time limit, so you can pause between keys to orient the camera and confirm the next symbol.
The room flashed, but I cannot find the reward
The reward is not on the organ floor. Take the left exit, return to the plaque and stairs, and descend through the opened floor or hatch. Follow the corridor to the altar rather than searching the gallery for another piano interaction.
Does the puzzle require a particular platform?
GamesRadar’s October 13, 2026 review lists Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. The puzzle rule described by the game guides is the same in their coverage; edition, region, and update differences can still affect the exact visible layout, so the candle count on your screen remains the final authority.
