Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse reached an all-time Steam peak of 18,261 concurrent players on October 15, 2026, its launch day. That figure comes from SteamDB and counts people playing at the same time; it is not a sales total. On October 17, SteamDB showed an 18,184-player 24-hour peak and 14,152 players in-game at the access point, both of which can change continuously.

What the 18,261-player peak actually measures

A concurrent-player peak is the highest number of users Steam recorded playing simultaneously during a specified period. SteamDB’s 18,261 figure is therefore a launch-day engagement measurement, not the number of copies sold, players who have tried the game, or revenue generated.

The available SteamDB snapshot gives three different time-sensitive values:

Metric Value Qualification
All-time Steam peak 18,261 players Recorded October 15, 2026, the Steam launch day
24-hour peak 18,184 players SteamDB reading at the October 17 access point; subject to change
Players in-game 14,152 players Live SteamDB reading at that access point; subject to change

Without published sales, revenue or conversion data, the peak cannot support a claim that the game “sold” 18,261 copies or that it reached a particular commercial result. It does show that the launch attracted a substantial simultaneous audience on PC.

Steam’s listed features

Steam identifies KONAMI and Evil Empire as the developers and KONAMI as the publisher. The listing classifies the game as single-player action/RPG and lists Steam achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. Its systems include whip-based traversal and Arcana abilities created from defeated bosses. Named encounters include Death, Medusa, Carmilla and Joan of Arc.

Is Belmont’s Curse a roguelike?

No. The association with Dead Cells may lead players to expect roguelike or roguelite runs because Evil Empire and Motion Twin worked on that series. KONAMI communications head Tommy Williams specifically described Belmont’s Curse as a “2D Action-Exploration game” with freely explorable, elaborately crafted maps and said it “is not a roguelike or roguelite game.”

Castlevania Dominus Collection (Limited Run #251) Order of Ecclesia Cover Art – Nintendo Switch
  • LIMITED EDITION: Official Limited Run Games release #251 of the Castlevania Dominus Collection featuring Order of Ecclesia cover art for Nintendo Switch
  • GAME FORMAT: Physical DVD-ROM release, not a digital download, packaged in standard Nintendo Switch game case
  • CONTENT: Action-packed collection of classic Castlevania games, rated T for Teen by ESRB
  • PACKAGING DIMENSIONS: Comes in standard Switch case measuring 6 inches high, 3 inches wide, and 2 inches deep
  • REGION AND LANGUAGE: US release with English language support, compatible with Nintendo Switch systems

That distinction affects how progression should be understood. The game is built around exploring a connected map rather than repeatedly starting procedurally remixed runs. Its advertised structure emphasizes movement through the environment, boss victories and abilities earned from those encounters.

Who made the new Castlevania game?

KONAMI is the publisher and one of the development partners. Evil Empire and Motion Twin are also named in KONAMI’s launch description, while Steam’s store credit lists KONAMI and Evil Empire as developers. Those credits explain why the project is associated with the team behind Dead Cells, but the official genre description separates this release from that game’s roguelite format.

The announcement does not establish a universal price, stock level or regional availability. Buyers should check the listing for their country and platform for the current contents, price and supply.

How to interpret the launch reception

The Steam peak is useful for comparing PC launch activity when the same tracker, platform and launch window are used. A fair comparison with another Castlevania or Metroidvania release should keep the following variables aligned:

  • Player metric: use peak concurrent players rather than mixing peaks with total owners or daily active users.
  • Timing: compare launch-day or equivalent windows because interest usually changes rapidly after release.
  • Platform scope: separate Steam results from figures that combine console and PC audiences.
  • Game structure: distinguish free exploration from roguelike runs; the two formats attract and retain players differently.
  • Edition and reviews: record special-edition contents and the Steam review percentage at the same time, since review scores are dynamic.

At present, the documented evidence establishes the Steam concurrency milestone and the multi-platform launch, but not unit sales, revenue, profit or a complete cross-platform audience. Those commercial measures require figures that have not been published.
