If a Cantina finding is marked Duplicate, Rejected, or otherwise seems inconsistent, check the finding’s history and use its in-platform Dispute control when available. Cantina says a support ticket alone does not start bounty mediation. The status label and a matching symptom are not enough to establish whether the decision is right: the key comparison is the underlying issue, attack path, and impact.
What the reported Cantina situation does—and does not—establish
A Reddit post matching this situation describes a researcher who says they submitted a high-severity report, later supplied requested information, offered to lower severity, and then saw the report marked Duplicate of a finding they understood had been Rejected, with severity changed to Critical. The author also says six business days had passed without a support response. Those details are the poster’s unverified account, not an independently confirmed record.
The post does not provide the report identifiers, complete history of the alleged duplicate, bounty rules, triager’s reasoning, or support correspondence. Cantina’s published status definitions do not explain whether a finding can validly be marked Duplicate of a rejected report, or why the severity reportedly changed. The case’s merits therefore cannot be determined from the post alone.

What Cantina’s finding statuses mean
Cantina describes these labels as stages or outcomes in a finding’s lifecycle:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| New | Submitted and awaiting initial triage. |
| In Review | Triaged and under evaluation by the client. |
| Confirmed | Valid finding. A payout amount may be provided later. |
| Rejected | Invalid or outside the program’s criteria. |
| Duplicate | Another researcher reported the same underlying issue. |
| Spam | Irrelevant, low-quality, automated, AI-generated, or otherwise non-actionable. |
| Withdrawn | Withdrawn by the researcher. |
| Disputed | A challenged decision awaiting mediation. |
These definitions are from Cantina’s status guidance. A Confirmed label establishes validity, but does not necessarily mean a payout amount is already shown or ready.
How to assess a Duplicate decision
Cantina’s definition is about the same underlying issue—not simply a similar report title, symptom, or affected component. Its guidance describes a duplicate in terms of shared root cause, a realistic attack path, and the same impact. Cantina says duplicate findings are not rewarded on bug bounties.

When reviewing a possible duplicate, compare the technical substance available in the finding discussion: what causes the vulnerability, how an attacker reaches it, and what impact follows. Preserve the report history and relevant evidence. The published definition alone cannot tell you whether a particular pair of reports meets that test, especially when the complete history and program context are unavailable.

How to challenge a finding decision
- Open the finding. Review its current status and the report discussion, including any triager or client explanation.
- Check for the Dispute control. If it is available and you have a technical basis to challenge the decision, use it to submit a concise argument with evidence tied to root cause, attack path, and impact.
- Track the finding’s state. Cantina says only a finding in Disputed status is eligible for bounty mediation. Its instructions are in How do I dispute a finding?
Cantina’s guidance is explicit: “A support ticket does not start mediation.” A ticket may be appropriate for a platform or account issue, but it does not replace the finding’s Dispute workflow.

If the Dispute button is missing
Cantina says that when the button is unavailable, the platform-side review cycle is complete. Its guidance does not say that the absence of the button explains the decision or proves the underlying technical disagreement resolved. If a finding remains disputed without movement for more than 15 days, Cantina says to contact support again.
When to contact support—and how to submit reports
Use the relevant bounty or competition submission flow for a finding, not a support ticket. Cantina states: “Findings must be submitted on the Cantina platform, on the relevant bounty or competition page.” For account or platform questions, Cantina recommends checking the platform, its Docs, and the knowledge base before opening a ticket. If you already have a ticket, follow up through its email thread. See Can I submit a finding through a support ticket? and How do I contact support?.

If the finding is confirmed but payment is pending
A confirmed finding and a completed payout are separate points in the process. Cantina’s payment FAQ says a bounty may await sponsor or client readiness. When KYC and wallet setup are ready, its guidance is to wait one weekly payout cycle before contacting support. That timing is payment guidance, not a deadline for a dispute. See Cantina’s payment FAQ.
