If your Enshrouded dedicated server is missing, start with the in-game filter: open Play → Join → Server Filter and enable Show Dedicated Servers. Then verify that the server has finished starting and logged [Session] 'HostOnline' (up)!, update the dedicated-server build if it does not match your client, and open the query port (UDP 15637). While you troubleshoot browser listing, connect by IP address; direct connection often works even when the server browser does not.
Fastest recovery sequence
- In Enshrouded, open Play, choose Join, open Server Filter, and turn on Show Dedicated Servers.
- On the host, wait for the console or log to display
[Session] 'HostOnline' (up)!. Allow one to two minutes after that message for the listing to appear. - Check that the game client and dedicated server are on compatible builds. Clients normally update through Steam; a dedicated server must be updated separately.
- Allow and forward UDP 15637, the query port used for browser discovery. If direct connection still fails, also allow and forward UDP 15636.
- Bypass the browser while testing: choose Play → Join, press T to switch to the IPv4/domain search, enter the server’s public IP address, and select Search.
These steps separate a hidden listing from a server that is offline, out of date, or unreachable from the internet.

Dedicated servers can be hidden by the default filter. This is the most common reason an otherwise healthy server does not appear.
Enable the dedicated-server option
- Start Enshrouded and select Play.
- Select Join.
- Open Server Filter.
- Enable Show Dedicated Servers.
- Refresh the list and search again.
Review the other filters at the same time. A Steam friends only filter can hide a server whose owner is not on your friends list, and a password filter can exclude servers that do not match the selected access setting. Temporarily use the broadest filter settings while diagnosing the problem, then restore your preferred restrictions.

2. Confirm that the server has finished starting
A running process is not necessarily a ready server. The dedicated server must complete its startup and announce that it is online before the browser can reliably discover it.
Look for the HostOnline message
Open the server console or its log and look for a line similar to:
[Session] 'HostOnline' (up)!
If that line has not appeared, leave the process running until startup completes. If it appears, wait another one to two minutes before judging the browser listing as failed; discovery can lag behind the server becoming ready.
If HostOnline never appears
- Stop the server cleanly and start it again, then watch the console from the beginning.
- Check whether the process exits, loops through errors, or remains stuck before the online message.
- Confirm that the server has access to the internet and is not blocked by the host operating system’s firewall.
- Do not troubleshoot the browser first. Until the server reaches
HostOnline, filtering and search changes cannot make it joinable.
3. Match the game and dedicated-server builds
Your Enshrouded client and the dedicated server need compatible versions. The client can update automatically, while a dedicated server installed through SteamCMD does not necessarily update unless you run the update command again.

Update a SteamCMD installation
Stop the dedicated server before updating it. From the machine where SteamCMD is installed, run:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2278520 +quitAfter SteamCMD finishes, start the server again and wait for the HostOnline message before testing the browser or a direct connection.

Do not assume every patch requires a server update
Patch notes can state that a particular hotfix changes clients only and does not require a dedicated-server update. A hotfix dated 21 April 2026 has been described that way in published summaries. Other update guides advise rerunning SteamCMD after every patch. Because those instructions can differ by release, check the notes for the exact Enshrouded version installed on your clients. If the notes are unclear, updating the server is the safer troubleshooting step; record the previous server files or installation state so you can roll back according to your hosting provider’s procedure if necessary.
4. Check the query and game ports
Port advice for Enshrouded has changed, and published guides do not all agree. The practical distinction is that the query port is used for browser discovery, while the game port is involved when a player establishes the session.

Some guidance says a later content update removed the separate game-port requirement and that UDP 15637 is sufficient. Other current-looking guides still list UDP 15636 for game traffic and UDP 15637 for queries. Opening both UDP ports is the least ambiguous self-hosted configuration while you test; once you confirm which ports your installed server version uses, you can narrow the firewall rules.
Configure the host firewall
Create inbound UDP rules for the port or ports your server uses. Apply the rule to the network profile on which the server is running, and make sure the rule points to the correct executable or local machine. A firewall rule on the router does not replace an operating-system firewall rule on the host.
Configure router forwarding
- Give the server computer a stable local address, either with a static address or a DHCP reservation.
- Create a UDP forwarding rule for port 15637 to that local address.
- If needed, create a second UDP rule for port 15636.
- Save the router configuration and restart the server.
Forwarding to the wrong local address is common after a router reboot or network change. Recheck the destination address before testing from outside your home network.
Check whether the host is reachable from the internet
The host needs a public IPv4 address for the usual IPv4 browser and direct-connect workflow. Some published guidance reports that IPv6 is not supported for this server connection, so an IPv6-only or carrier-grade-NAT connection can prevent inbound access even when local firewall rules look correct. If your router’s internet address differs from the address shown by an external “what is my IP” service, your provider may be placing you behind another NAT layer; router port forwarding alone cannot overcome that arrangement.

5. Join directly by IP while the browser is broken
Direct connection is the quickest way to distinguish a listing problem from a connectivity problem.
- From the Enshrouded main menu, select Play.
- Select Join.
- Press T to switch to the IPv4/domain search field.
- Enter the server’s public IPv4 address or domain name.
- Select Search and attempt to join.
If direct joining works, the server is reachable and the remaining issue is likely the browser filter, delayed discovery, the query-port rule, or a stale listing. Leave the server running and correct those browser-side settings rather than changing the game configuration unnecessarily.

A connection that works only from inside the host’s home network can indicate missing router forwarding, a host firewall block, or NAT loopback limitations. A failure from every network points back to the server’s startup state, build, address, or port configuration.
6. Try the Steam Game Servers favorites workaround
An older workaround can force a server address into Steam’s server list before you refresh Enshrouded’s browser:

- In the Steam desktop client, open View → Game Servers.
- Open the Favorites tab.
- Add the server’s address using the format
IP:15637. - Refresh the favorites list.
- Return to Enshrouded and refresh the in-game server browser.
This method is not a substitute for opening the correct ports, and it may not work with every current client version. Treat it as a browser-discovery workaround after confirming that the server reaches HostOnline.
7. Verify the name, password, and group settings
Server name
Players search for the value configured as name in enshrouded_server.json. Check the spelling, punctuation, and capitalization against what players are entering. After changing the name, restart the server; a running process can continue advertising its previous configuration until it is restarted.
Passwords and groups
Access is assigned per group. Each group can have its own password, and the password a player enters determines which group that player joins. A player who has the wrong group password may see the server but still fail to enter, which is a different problem from the server not appearing.
- Give players the password for the intended group, not merely any valid server password.
- Check that the password in the configuration contains no unintended spaces.
- Restart after changing passwords so the new values are loaded.
8. Diagnose by symptom

9. How hosting arrangements change the fix

Regardless of where it is hosted, the same order applies: make dedicated servers visible, confirm HostOnline, match builds, verify the query path, and test a direct address.
Final pre-share checklist
- Filter: Show Dedicated Servers is enabled and restrictive filters are cleared.
- Startup: The console contains
[Session] 'HostOnline' (up)!, followed by a one- to two-minute discovery wait. - Build: The dedicated server is compatible with the players’ current client version; SteamCMD has been run when the release notes or symptoms warrant it.
- Ports: UDP 15637 is allowed and forwarded; UDP 15636 is also allowed if direct joining still fails.
- Address: Players receive the public IPv4 address or configured domain, not a private address such as
192.168.x.x. - Configuration: The advertised name in
enshrouded_server.jsonis correct, and players have the password for the intended group.
Once those checks pass, a missing browser entry is usually a discovery or filter problem rather than a dead server. Keep the direct IP available as a practical fallback while you correct the listing.
