No—you can’t swap the built-in lens on a Canon PowerShot SX540 HS for another photographic lens. It is a compact camera with a fixed 50x optical zoom lens, spanning 4.3–215.0 mm (24–1200 mm equivalent). You can change the framing by zooming, and Canon documents a hood/filter adapter mount, but neither feature turns the SX540 HS into an interchangeable-lens camera.
Why the SX540 HS lens cannot be changed
The SX540 HS is designed with its zoom lens built into the camera. Canon describes it as a compact digital camera with a built-in 50x optical zoom; its specification chart calls it a “Compact digital still camera with built-in flash, 50x Optical, 4x Digital and 200x Combined Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer.” Canon’s SX540 HS specifications list the lens at 4.3–215.0 mm, equivalent to 24–1200 mm in 35 mm format. The lens moves internally as you zoom, but it is not a removable lens that you can replace with another focal length.
What you can change instead
Use the built-in optical zoom
The camera’s 50x optical zoom lets you frame subjects from wide-angle to strong telephoto without changing lenses. Its 24–1200 mm equivalent range describes the field of view compared with a 35 mm-format camera; it does not indicate that the camera accepts interchangeable lenses. Canon’s specification page provides the focal-length range and zoom rating.
Consider a hood or filter accessory
Canon’s component guide identifies a “Lens hood/filter adapter mount,” and Canon’s camera-parts guide shows where that mount sits. Canon Australia also lists the support question, “Can a lens hood be used with the camera?” That support page concerns a hood, not a replacement lens. Confirm that any hood, filter, or adapter is specifically compatible with the SX540 HS before buying; the existence of a mount does not establish fit for every third-party accessory.

Try the digital tele-converter
The SX540 HS user guide describes a digital tele-converter setting that increases the effective focal length by approximately 1.6x or 2.0x. This is an in-camera feature, not an optical lens you attach or swap. Canon’s PowerShot SX540 HS Camera User Guide, version 1.1 says the digital tele-converter cannot be combined with digital zoom or point zoom.
When to choose an interchangeable-lens camera
If you need to physically switch between lenses—for example, to use different focal lengths or lens types—the relevant camera category is an interchangeable-lens system. Before deciding whether to keep the SX540 HS or move to another system, consider:

- Lens changes: The SX540 HS has a fixed built-in lens; an interchangeable-lens camera is designed to accept compatible removable lenses.
- Focal-length coverage: The SX540 HS provides a 24–1200 mm equivalent range in one camera. A system camera’s coverage depends on the lenses you choose.
- Size and weight: Compare the camera alone with the complete kit you would carry, including any additional lenses.
- Total cost: Account for the camera and the lenses needed for the kinds of photos you take. Current model prices and a specific upgrade recommendation depend on your budget and needs.
Do not assume a lens made for a DSLR or mirrorless camera will attach to the SX540 HS. Its built-in lens is not designed to be replaced by those lenses.
