Choose the Canon PIXMA G3270 for regular household documents, flexible phone and computer printing, and the higher stated bottle-set yield. Choose the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 if photo color fidelity and scan appearance matter more than all-around versatility. Independent testing by RTINGS found the Epson produced a wider color gamut, more accurate color and better-looking scans, while the Canon was the more versatile printer and offered a substantially higher stated yield. Neither model is universally better.

What these two printers have in common
The G3270 and ET-2800 are wireless color inkjet all-in-one printers with refillable ink tanks. Each combines printing, flatbed scanning and copying in a compact home-oriented design, so you can print from a computer or mobile device without buying cartridges for every color.
The tank concept lowers the frequency of ink replacement compared with small cartridge printers, but it does not guarantee a fixed cost per page. Your result depends on local bottle prices, how much of each color your pages use, print settings, image coverage, environmental conditions and how often you print.

Ink systems, yields and the cost question
Canon PIXMA G3270: GI-21 bottles
Canon’s PIXMA G3270 brochure specifies GI-21 replacement bottles. In the printer’s default mode, Canon estimates up to 6,000 black-and-white pages and 7,700 color pages from a full bottle set. In economy mode, the brochure lists up to 7,600 black-and-white pages and 8,100 color pages.
#1 Best Overall
Those are manufacturer estimates, not a guaranteed count for every household. Economy-mode figures also come from a different setting than the default-mode figures, so do not compare the 8,100-page color number directly with another printer’s standard-mode claim.
Epson EcoTank ET-2800: T522 bottles
Epson specifies T522 replacement bottles for the ET-2800 and lists yields of 4,500 black pages and 7,500 color pages per replacement bottle set. Epson’s product information warns that actual savings vary with print tasks, volume and usage.
Why the numbers are not a guaranteed cost-per-page ranking
Epson’s specification notes say its yield method uses the ISO/IEC 24712 pattern. The notes also explain that some included ink is consumed during initial setup and that actual yield changes with image content, selected settings, temperature, humidity and print frequency. Canon’s brochure and Epson’s product page use their own stated assumptions; the figures should therefore be read as planning estimates rather than a synchronized laboratory comparison.

- Record the current local price for one complete GI-21 set and one complete T522 set.
- Divide each set price by its manufacturer’s quoted black or color yield, keeping black and color calculations separate.
- Estimate your own mix of text pages, graphics and photos. Heavy photos consume ink far faster than lightly covered documents.
- Add the price of paper. For many users, photo paper becomes a larger part of photo-printing cost than the ink itself.
No same-date retail price comparison is established here, so a deal price from an older guide should not be treated as today’s price.
Print quality: documents versus photographs
Everyday documents
Both printers target home documents rather than high-volume office production. Either can cover homework, forms, recipes, shipping labels and occasional graphics when you choose suitable plain paper and the appropriate quality setting.
The more important difference for a document buyer is workflow. Canon’s all-around versatility and mobile-printing support make it the safer choice when several people will print from different devices or when the printer must handle varied home tasks.
Photos and color graphics
RTINGS’ head-to-head testing favored the ET-2800 for visual color work. It reported a noticeably wider color gamut and better color accuracy on the Epson. That means the Epson is the stronger candidate for snapshots, illustrations and graphics where subtle hue differences matter.

This finding does not mean every photo will look dramatically different in every room. Results depend on the paper, the source file, lighting and the driver’s color settings. If most of your output is black text with occasional color diagrams, the Epson’s advantage may not justify giving up the Canon’s broader feature set. If you regularly print photos, invitations or artwork, the wider gamut is more likely to be visible.
How to interpret the independent comparison
RTINGS’ comparison, updated June 19, 2026, is useful for separating specifications from observed performance. Its color-gamut, color-accuracy and scan-quality findings come from the publisher’s testing of these models, not from a claim that every unit will produce identical results. Paper stock, driver settings, lighting and maintenance can change what you see at home.
The same comparison calls the Canon more versatile overall. That conclusion reflects its connectivity and broader day-to-day usefulness, not a claim that it produces better photographs. Think of the result as a priority match: Canon for mixed tasks and device flexibility, Epson for color-critical output and cleaner-looking scans.
Scanning and copying
The ET-2800’s flatbed scanner produced better-looking scans in RTINGS’ testing. The comparison described Canon scans as grainier and less clear in fine details. Choose the Epson when you frequently digitize photographs, receipts with small type or documents where edge and texture detail matters.

A flatbed is useful for books, photographs and delicate originals, but it is slower than an automatic document feeder for a stack of pages.
Do not assume that either model will match an office machine’s batch workflow. TechRadar specifically lists no ADF for the Canon G3270. The available specifications do not provide a complete, current exact-SKU ADF comparison for the Epson, so check Epson’s manual and the retailer’s exact listing if batch scanning is a deciding requirement.
Paper handling and office workflow limits
Canon capacity and speed
TechRadar’s 2026 budget-printer guide lists the G3270 with a 100-sheet paper capacity and a rated speed of 11 monochrome pages per minute. Treat those as guide specifications rather than a promise for every document: coverage, quality mode, host computer and connection can change real throughput.

Two-sided printing
The same TechRadar listing flags no automatic duplexing for the Canon. To print on both sides, print one side, reload the pages in the correct orientation and start the second side manually. For a few pages this is manageable; for a long report it adds handling time and creates a risk of ordering pages incorrectly.
The evidence available here does not establish a complete current duplex specification for the ET-2800. If automatic two-sided output is essential, confirm the exact Epson model’s current manual or product sheet rather than inferring it from a similarly named printer.
What this means for multi-page work
- For occasional forms, school packets and short reports, either printer can be adequate.
- For frequent long documents, the Canon’s lack of an ADF and automatic duplexing is a meaningful limitation.
- For recurring scan batches, look for an all-in-one with an ADF, even if that means moving beyond these two entry-level tank models.
Connectivity and device support
Both models provide wireless printing. RTINGS specifically identifies Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service support for the Canon and rates it as the more versatile printer overall. Those standards let compatible phones and computers discover the printer without a special cable or a vendor-specific workflow.
Before buying, list every device that will print: Windows or macOS computers, iPhones or iPads, Android phones, tablets and guest devices. Confirm that your home router’s wireless band and security settings are supported by the exact model, then install the current driver or mobile app from the manufacturer’s support page. A printer can be technically wireless yet frustrating if it cannot join the network used by your household.
Warranty and genuine-ink considerations
Canon’s G3270 brochure lists a one-year limited warranty with InstantExchange. The brochure’s publication date was not stated, so check the warranty terms supplied with the unit in your region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEpson states on its official product page: “Epson strongly recommends the use of genuine ink to ensure optimal print quality and performance.” Use that as the manufacturer’s position, not as proof that third-party ink will always fail. Non-genuine bottles can introduce color, clogging, leak or warranty questions; verify the bottle code and your local warranty terms before substituting anything.
How to choose: a practical decision checklist
Choose the Canon PIXMA G3270 when most of these are true
- Your main output is text, homework, forms or mixed household documents.
- Several people need to print from phones and computers.
- You value the higher published bottle-set yield.
- Apple AirPrint or Mopria compatibility is important.
- You can live with manual two-sided printing and no ADF.
Choose the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 when most of these are true
- You print photos or color graphics often enough to notice hue and gamut differences.
- You scan photographs or detailed originals and care about cleaner fine detail.
- You prefer Epson’s T522 bottle ecosystem and have favorable local bottle prices.
- You do not need a confirmed high-volume office workflow from the printer.
Pause and reconsider both models when these are true
- You routinely scan or copy stacks of pages and need an ADF.
- You require automatic duplexing for reports, invoices or school packets.
- Your monthly volume is high enough that an 11-page-per-minute guide rating would create a bottleneck.
- You need a documented, synchronized cost-per-page figure before purchasing.
Buying and setup steps that prevent common mistakes
- Confirm the exact model and region. Product names can be reused across markets. Match the complete model number on the box, support page and retailer listing.
- Check the included-bottle terms. Initial setup consumes some ink, and the first fill is not necessarily equivalent to a replacement set.
- Price the correct bottle family. The Canon uses GI-21 bottles; the Epson uses T522 bottles. Do not buy by color alone.
- Measure your workspace. Leave room to open the scanner lid, load the paper path and refill tanks safely.
- Connect one computer and one phone first. Print a plain-text test page, then a color page and a scan. This isolates network or driver problems before everyone in the household is added.
- Set expectations for two-sided work. Practice the paper orientation on a two-page test before printing a long document.
- Save the warranty and receipt. Keep the bottle receipts as well if your region ties support eligibility to approved supplies.
Common failure points and sensible fixes
Pages look streaky or colors are missing
Run the printer’s built-in nozzle check and cleaning routine, confirm that the correct paper type is selected and make sure the tank levels are above the minimum line. Repeated cleaning consumes ink, so do not run it indefinitely. If the pattern does not recover, consult the model-specific support procedure before opening the ink system.
Rank #4
The phone cannot find the printer
Confirm that the phone and printer are on the same network, disable a guest-network isolation setting if your router uses one, and reinstall the current mobile printing component. For Canon, AirPrint and Mopria can provide an alternative to a vendor app on supported devices.
Scans are soft or grainy
Clean the flatbed glass, remove any protective film, place the original squarely on the reference marks and select a resolution appropriate to the original. Do not judge a scan through a messaging app that has compressed the file; inspect the saved scan itself.
A two-sided document comes out in the wrong order
Because the Canon requires manual duplexing, run a single-sheet orientation test, note which edge enters first and use the same orientation for the full job. Printer-driver dialogs often offer a manual-duplex prompt; follow that prompt rather than guessing.
