Canadian biodynamic farming has a documented tradition of consulting natural rhythms, and digital calendar tools make biodynamic timing recommendations easier to check. But available evidence does not establish that particular Canadian biodynamic farms use drones, sensors, or farm-management software. The distinction matters: national technology statistics describe Canadian farms overall, not biodynamic growers specifically.
What biodynamic farming means in Canada
The Anthroposophical Society in Canada describes biodynamics as a whole-farm approach that treats soil, plant growth, livestock care, and local ecology as interconnected. Its account also includes local production and distribution, herbal and mineral additions to compost and field sprays, and attention to natural rhythms and patterns. These are the organization’s descriptions of biodynamic principles, not independent proof that every practice produces a particular agricultural outcome. Anthroposophical Society in Canada: Biodynamic agriculture
The organization characterizes biodynamics as valuing observation of natural rhythms alongside quantified data. In its words, “Steiner’s focus on the qualitative importance of observing natural rhythms and patterns in nature rather than relying solely on quantified data is an important contribution to the field of sustainable agriculture.” That is the society’s view of the tradition, not a finding that biodynamics rejects technology.
How to find Canadian biodynamic farms
Demeter Canada coordinates biodynamic certification and education nationally, following standards established by the Biodynamic Federation–Demeter International. Its directory distinguishes farms that have completed Demeter Canada’s certification process from those it separately identifies as practicing biodynamics without its certification. Demeter and “in-conversion” are certification levels; not every farm practicing biodynamics is certified. Demeter Canada’s farm directory and Who are we? What do we do?

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The directory is a useful starting point, not a complete census. Examples it lists include Nutrient Dense Farm in British Columbia, Bear River Farm in Nova Scotia, Camphill Market Garden and Southbrook Winery in Ontario, and operations in Quebec. Because directory entries can change, check the current listing and the farm’s own site before relying on a farm’s status or offerings. The Anthroposophical Society’s selected farm links describe options such as workshops, seedlings, vegetable boxes, dining, CSA programs, and regional sales, but availability varies by farm and season.
What a biodynamic calendar app can do
The Biodynamic Gardening Calendar app from Floris Books organizes recommended daily activities around “fruit,” “root,” “flower,” and “leaf” timings, with additional activities such as pruning and pest control. The listing describes week and month views, adjustment to the device’s time zone, and subscription-based planning for future dates. It presents questions such as when to plant strawberries or harvest lettuce as things users can explore—not as proof that one date is universally best. The app says it is based on Maria Thun’s calendar. Floris Books’ App Store listing states that the calendar has been published annually for over 50 years and has sold over 100,000 copies in English. Those are publisher claims, not independently audited figures. The Canadian App Store listing showed version 1.6.15 and 2027 calendar data when accessed on October 7, 2026; app versions and future-year data can change.

A calendar app is a digital way to consult biodynamic timing recommendations. Its existence does not show that Canadian farms connect lunar timing to sensors, drones, or other field systems. Nor does the app listing establish that lunar timing causes improved yields or crop quality. Treat it as a tool for following a practice, not as evidence of a proven agronomic effect.

What Canadian agricultural technology figures do—and don’t—show
Statistics Canada reports that, in 2020, 3.6% of farms in Canada reported using drone technology and 13.2% reported using GIS mapping. These figures come from the 2021 Census of Agriculture and cover Canadian farms generally; they are not rates for biodynamic farms. Statistics Canada: Canada’s farms integrate renewable energy production and technologies toward a future of sustainable and efficient agriculture
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada also describes research using digital phenomics and remote sensing, including aerial drones and a ground robot equipped with high-precision GPS. That is evidence of digital equipment in Canadian crop research, not of adoption by the biodynamic farms in Demeter Canada’s directory. A 2026 Digital Journal article matching this topic asserts that Canadian biodynamic growers use drones, sensors, and digital farm-management systems. The national statistics and government research above do not independently verify that claim for named biodynamic operations. No named Canadian biodynamic farm’s use of those tools is established by the sources cited here. Digital Journal article, published October 3, 2026
How to verify a farm’s digital practices
To establish that a particular biodynamic farm uses a digital tool, look for a farm-level account that identifies the tool, the task it supports, and when it was used. A national adoption percentage, a research project, or a calendar app cannot fill in those details for an individual farm.

- Check the farm’s own website or published updates for a specific tool and use case.
- Confirm the account names the farm and gives a date or season, since equipment and practices can change.
- Distinguish a farm’s own practice from a tool used by a university, government research team, or supplier.
- For certification, verify the farm’s current status in Demeter Canada’s directory rather than assuming all biodynamic practitioners are certified.
Choosing how to follow biodynamic timing
A printed annual calendar and a digital app can both present timing recommendations, but the details that matter depend on how you plan to use them. The app listing describes the features below; it does not verify current availability of a specific printed edition or seller.
| What to check | Digital calendar app | Printed annual calendar |
|---|---|---|
| Calendar basis | The app listing says it is based on Maria Thun’s calendar. | Confirm the named calendar and edition with the seller; current print availability is not established here. |
| Activities and categories | Daily fruit, root, flower, and leaf timings; also activities such as pruning and pest control, according to the listing. | Check the contents of the specific edition; details are not established here. |
| Planning ahead | The listing describes future-date planning by subscription. | Dates are fixed in the annual edition; check the relevant year before buying. |
| Time zone | The listing says the app adjusts to the device’s time zone. | Check the edition’s instructions and the times used for your location. |
| Current edition or year | The Canadian listing showed 2027 calendar data on October 7, 2026; listings may change. | Confirm the current edition and seller before purchase. |
For local produce, CSA subscriptions, workshops, or farm boxes, use Demeter Canada’s directory to identify farms, then confirm current offerings directly with each farm. Seasonal availability and sales channels are not uniform across the directory.
