Yes. YouTube’s Community Guidelines apply to all content types, including private and unlisted videos, and YouTube says it may issue a strike on deleted content. Its guidance does not state an age after which an upload becomes immune. That does not mean every old video will be reviewed or struck: enforcement depends on the content and YouTube’s review process.
To reduce avoidable risk, review your older uploads and other channel content against the current rules, check YouTube Studio for any notices, and identify the exact type of action before responding. An audit can help you spot issues; it cannot guarantee that content will avoid enforcement.
Why an old video can still be in scope
YouTube says its Community Guidelines cover all content types, including videos that are private or unlisted. It also says a strike may be issued on deleted content. In its Community Guidelines overview and strike guidance, YouTube does not give a maximum age for reviewing an upload or issuing a strike.

That leaves two important limits on what you can conclude: age alone is not a stated exemption, but the policy does not establish that every old upload will be reviewed. YouTube describes enforcement as involving reports, technology, and human review. Its transparency FAQ says reviewers assess flagged material and describes automated removal for some spam and known violating reuploads; a report by itself does not prove a violation.

What to include in a channel audit
Review more than public videos. YouTube’s rules apply across content types, so consider the channel’s other material as well as its uploads.
- Videos: Include old, private, and unlisted uploads, not just recent public videos.
- Thumbnails: Check whether the image itself may raise a policy issue.
- Posts and comments: Review channel posts and comments you have published.
- Links and playlists: Check relevant links and playlist context associated with your channel.
Review context as well as the material
Compare content with the current YouTube Community Guidelines. Context can matter: YouTube says educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context may affect whether otherwise violative material can remain. Where relevant, make that context clear in the content itself; do not assume that a viewer or reviewer will infer it.

How to check for an existing notice
- Open YouTube Studio. Check the dashboard and the Content page for details of an enforcement action. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance directs creators to these areas.
- Read the notification. YouTube says its notice identifies the removed content, the policy involved, the impact on the channel, and next steps. Check email and in-product notifications too.
- Record the specific action and policy. Use the wording in the notice rather than guessing from a video’s disappearance, restriction, or change in availability.
Distinguish a Community Guidelines strike from other actions
A video can be affected for different reasons. The label in YouTube’s notice matters because the processes and remedies differ.

Do not treat a copyright claim, copyright takedown, age restriction, or feature limitation as interchangeable with a Community Guidelines warning or strike. Follow the route that matches the action YouTube actually named.

What warnings and strikes can mean for a channel
YouTube says a first Community Guidelines violation is typically handled with a warning. Some warnings offer optional policy training; if a creator completes it, the warning expires 90 days after training completion. If the same policy is violated during that 90-day period, the warning may not expire and the channel may receive a strike. Training eligibility and details depend on the warning.

- First strike: Blocks specified posting and publishing actions for one week. The strike remains on the channel for 90 days.
- Second strike within the same 90-day period: Brings a two-week posting restriction. Each strike expires 90 days after it was issued.
- Three strikes within 90 days: May result in permanent channel removal.
YouTube also says severe abuse can lead to termination without a warning. Check the current notice and Help Center for the details that apply to your case, since product workflows and enforcement details can change.
What to do if you think a decision is wrong
- Read the cited policy. Compare the specific content and its context with the rule named in YouTube’s notice.
- Use the appeal flow in Studio. YouTube’s appeal guidance points creators to the Channel violations area for warnings and strikes.
- Submit within the stated window. YouTube says warnings and strikes may be appealed up to six months after issuance. A content removal has a separate stated window in its guidance.
- Wait for the review result. YouTube says an appeal triggers another review and communicates the result; an appeal is not a guarantee of reversal.
Do not delete the video to try to clear a strike. YouTube states, “Deleting your content doesn’t remove a strike,” and warns that deleting the video can remove the opportunity to appeal. The notice’s appeal instructions are the safer place to start.

Do not try to get around an active restriction by creating or using another channel. YouTube describes that as circumvention in its strike guidance.
A practical review routine
This is a channel-maintenance workflow, not a special YouTube requirement or a guarantee against enforcement.
