Yes. You can use your own music with a Hercules DJControl Inpulse controller by loading it into compatible DJ software, such as DJUCED or Serato. The controller provides hands-on controls; your software manages the music library and decks. The exact file formats and streaming options depend on the software, version, controller model, and service, so check those details before relying on a particular track or subscription.
Can you use your own music in Inpulse?
Yes. “Inpulse” refers to a family of Hercules DJ controllers, not a music library or a standalone player. You pair a controller with DJ software, then browse and play music through that software. Hercules identifies DJUCED and Serato as the intended integrations for the Inpulse family. Its compatibility guidance covers the Inpulse 200, 200 MK2, 200 MK3, 300, 300 MK2, 500, and T7.
For the Inpulse 200 MK3 specifically, Hercules lists DJUCED and Serato DJ Lite as compatible. For the Inpulse family more broadly, Hercules says Serato DJ Lite is compatible and Serato DJ Pro is available as an upgrade. That general family guidance should not be read as a guarantee that every model has identical features or setup; check the compatibility information for your exact controller and the software version you plan to use.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The controller lets you operate the software, but it does not turn an unsupported audio file into a playable one. A track’s availability also depends on its format and any access restrictions on the file.

If you already own an Inpulse controller, you do not need to buy another controller merely to use your own music. The key questions are whether your DJ software supports the model, whether it can access and play the track, and whether you want software-deck controls or only an external audio feed. Hercules describes Serato DJ Pro as an upgrade, but the manufacturer information here does not give a price; check current software terms if you are weighing that option.
How to use your own tracks
- Identify your controller model. Check the model name on the device or its documentation. Compatibility details and available integrations can differ by model.
- Choose compatible DJ software. Start with DJUCED or Serato, the integrations Hercules identifies for the Inpulse family. For an Inpulse 200 MK3, the listed options are DJUCED and Serato DJ Lite.
- Make your music available to the software. Add or browse to the tracks using the library tools in your chosen software. The precise menu labels and import process depend on the software and version.
- Check that the track is recognized and playable. Do this before a session, especially if you are relying on an uncommon format, a protected download, or a file from a service. A track appearing in a folder does not by itself confirm that the software can decode or access it.
- Load the track into a deck and test the audio route. On an Inpulse 500, Hercules’ manual directs users to select the controller sound device and assign master and headphone outputs. The controller is designed to play through its built-in audio interface; DJUCED settings also provide laptop-speaker routing.
Hercules’ compatibility pages do not provide a definitive list of local audio extensions. They therefore do not establish whether any particular format—such as a specific compressed or lossless format—will work in your installation. Check the current format guidance for the exact DJ application and version rather than assuming that a file is supported because another player on your computer can open it.
Also distinguish a regular local audio file from a protected download or an offline cache created by a streaming app. Those are not necessarily interchangeable sources. The manufacturer information does not establish how every protected file or cached track is handled, so verify access and playback in the DJ software before depending on it.

Confirm that the software can access the files and load them into a deck, then confirm that sound reaches the intended output. This is particularly important if you are switching between local files and a service integration: a track visible in one app or service is not automatically available to another application or route.
Which music services work with Inpulse?
Streaming service integrations are not one universal Inpulse feature list. Hercules names different services for different model and software combinations, and support can change. Its product information lists the following examples:

| Controller and software context | Services named by Hercules |
|---|---|
| Inpulse 200 MK3 software integrations | TIDAL, Beatport, SoundCloud GO+, and Apple Music; Apple Music is listed only for Serato |
| Inpulse 500 with Serato DJ Lite | TIDAL and SoundCloud GO+ |
| Inpulse 500 with DJUCED | Beatport LINK and Beatsource LINK |
Use this as model-specific manufacturer guidance, not a promise that each service is currently available to every user. The Hercules pages do not establish subscription requirements, offline playback rules, account requirements, or catalog availability in each country. Before planning a set around a streaming catalog, confirm current support in the service and DJ software you will use, in your region, and check whether the tracks you need can actually be played in that setup.
A streaming catalog is also different from a collection of local files you own or have downloaded for ordinary playback. A service integration may let supported tracks appear in DJ software, but that does not mean a cached track from the service’s separate mobile app becomes a local library file or can be loaded into a software deck.
When comparing local music with streaming, think about the source you can reliably access in the software, not just whether a song appears in a catalog. Local files must be supported and accessible to the DJ application. Streaming depends on the named integration for your controller/software combination, as well as the service’s current availability and terms. The listed services are examples for particular configurations, not evidence that every Inpulse model works with every service.
Can you connect a phone to an Inpulse controller?
For the Inpulse 500, yes: it has a hardware auxiliary input for an external source such as a smartphone or media player. Hercules lists 2 RCA inputs and a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack on the product page; the manual locates Aux In on the rear panel and describes using a smartphone or CD player as a source.
This is a separate audio path from loading a track into DJUCED or Serato. Audio fed through the auxiliary input can be added to the mix through the controller’s hardware input mixer, but the phone’s tracks do not thereby become software-library tracks with the same deck browsing and control features. Use this route when you need to bring in sound from an external device, not when you need the full software-deck workflow.

Connector compatibility matters: check the output on the phone or player and use an appropriate cable for one of the Inpulse 500’s listed inputs. The cited Inpulse 500 materials do not establish that other Inpulse models have the same auxiliary-input capability, so do not assume that the 500’s hardware route applies across the family.
In short, there are two different meanings of “use my phone.” You can connect it as an external sound source to the Inpulse 500’s Aux In, or use a supported service within DJ software if that service is listed for your setup. The first is a hardware input and the second is a software integration. Neither should be confused with importing a phone app’s cached tracks as ordinary local DJ-library files.
What if you want to use other DJ software?
Hercules says its controllers are MIDI compliant and may be mapped in other DJ applications that support MIDI. That means another application may be configurable to respond to the controller’s MIDI controls; it does not establish a native integration, a ready-made mapping, or feature parity with DJUCED or Serato. Hercules specifically cautions that it cannot guarantee the quality of third-party integrations.
If you are considering another application, verify that its vendor supports your exact Inpulse model or provides a suitable mapping, and check whether the controls and audio routing you need are covered. Treat “MIDI compliant” as a possibility for configuration, not as a compatibility guarantee.
This distinction matters when choosing software: an application might be able to receive MIDI control messages without offering the same plug-and-play behavior as a named Inpulse integration. Confirm both sides of the setup—the controller mapping and the software’s ability to access your music and send audio where you need it. Do not infer full compatibility solely from the fact that the application supports MIDI.

Which route should you choose?
- Use a local library in DJUCED or Serato when your tracks are accessible as files and you want to load them into software decks. Confirm file support in the exact software and version.
- Use an in-software streaming integration when the service is listed for your model and software combination. Verify current service access, regional availability, and account terms before relying on it.
- Use the Inpulse 500 auxiliary input when you need to add audio from a phone or another external player. This is an external feed, not a software-library import.
- Try another MIDI-capable DJ application only after checking model-specific mapping and audio support. Hercules does not guarantee the quality of these third-party integrations.
The main decision is whether you need software deck control or simply an audio feed. For deck browsing and control, use a compatible DJ application and a track source it can access. For an external source on the Inpulse 500, use Aux In. Then verify the details that the manufacturer’s compatibility pages do not settle—particularly local file formats, protected files, streaming account conditions, and current regional service support—against the software and service providers.
For a quick comparison, weigh four things before choosing: whether you want library and deck features or only an external signal; which software is listed for your exact model; whether your music is an accessible local file or comes from a streaming catalog; and which connectors your external source and controller actually have. The only external-input connectors listed here are for the Inpulse 500, so check the documentation for another model rather than assuming it offers the same route. Where a decision depends on file type, service terms, or regional availability, confirm that point with the relevant software or service provider.
