Yes—if your phone already has built-in Qi or Qi2 wireless-charging hardware. A damaged USB-C port does not add wireless capability to a phone that was designed only for wired charging. Confirm the exact model, then use a certified wireless pad powered by its own wall adapter. If the phone lacks a wireless receiver, port repair or an authorized service center is the dependable solution.
What a broken USB-C port changes—and what it does not
USB-C is the connector used for wired power and data. Qi and Qi2 charging use a separate receiver coil inside the phone. Because those systems are independent, a failed port can prevent cable charging while wireless charging continues normally on a compatible device.
The reverse is also true: placing a non-compatible phone on a wireless pad will not make it charge. A pad transmits power only when it detects a compatible receiving coil and charging circuitry in the phone. The pad itself must be connected to a wall adapter through its own cable; it cannot draw power from the phone’s damaged port.

First check whether your exact phone supports Qi or Qi2
Compatibility is model-specific, not simply a matter of having USB-C. Check the manufacturer’s specifications or support page for the precise model number, including regional or carrier variants.

Examples of model families
- Samsung identifies many Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models as Qi-compatible.
- Samsung’s support guidance says Galaxy A, Galaxy XCover and Galaxy Tab series devices are not compatible with its wireless-charging feature.
- Other manufacturers have their own model-by-model lists. Do not infer compatibility from the phone’s price, glass back, magnetic accessories or USB-C connector.
Qi is the established wireless-charging standard. Qi2 is a newer standard that can provide magnetic alignment on compatible hardware, but a Qi2-certified accessory still requires a phone designed to receive Qi2 or compatible Qi power. If the specifications do not mention Qi or Qi2, treat the model as wired-only until the manufacturer confirms otherwise.
What you need for the workaround
- A Qi-certified pad or stand: Motorola recommends a Qi-certified charger sold separately for a compatible phone, and Samsung advises checking Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) or Qi certification when choosing a third-party charger.
- A suitable wall adapter and cable: The pad’s input cable and adapter power the charging transmitter. Use the adapter recommended by the pad maker; the broken phone port is not part of this power path.
- A clear charging surface: Remove coins, metal plates, magnetic inserts, key cards and decorative metal pieces from between the phone and pad.
- A suitable case: Xiaomi recommends a non-metallic case no thicker than 3 mm. Very thick, reinforced or metallic cases can prevent the receiver from coupling with the pad.
Do not buy a pad before confirming the phone model. A certified accessory improves safety and compatibility, but it cannot compensate for a phone that has no wireless receiver.

How to charge safely with the port out of service
- Identify the model. Open the phone’s settings, look for the model name or model number in About phone, and compare it with the manufacturer’s Qi or Qi2 compatibility information.
- Inspect the phone without inserting a cable. If the port is burned, melted, corroded or visibly contaminated, do not keep testing it with wired chargers.
- Set up the pad. Connect the pad to its recommended cable and wall adapter, then place it on a hard, stable, dry surface.
- Remove interference. Take off metal-backed or unusually thick cases and remove loose metal objects from the phone’s back and the pad.
- Center the phone. Place the middle of the phone over the pad’s marked charging area. A small shift can move the phone’s receiving coil away from the transmitter coil.
- Verify charging on-screen. Look for the phone’s charging animation, battery indicator or notification. If there is no confirmation, reposition the phone before changing other variables.
- Monitor the first session. Stop if the phone or pad becomes unusually hot, smells burnt, shows a liquid or debris warning, or behaves erratically.
Wireless charging normally requires the phone to remain on the pad. Lifting it to use the device interrupts the power connection, so it is best viewed as a temporary charging method or a desk-stand arrangement rather than a replacement for every wired use.
Cases, alignment and heat: the common causes of failure
Misalignment
The transmitter coil in the pad and receiver coil in the phone must overlap. Camera bumps, stands with a shallow cradle or an incorrectly sized phone can leave the coils offset. Move the phone slowly across the pad until the charging indicator appears, then note that position.

Metal and magnets
Metal plates, coins and decorative inserts can block energy transfer or create heat. Magnetic rings and Qi2/MPP accessories can also be incompatible when the phone, case and charger do not support the same alignment system. Remove the accessory rather than forcing the phone to charge through it.
Case thickness
A case that works with one pad may fail with another. For a practical baseline, Xiaomi advises a non-metallic case no thicker than 3 mm. Test with the case removed before concluding that the phone or charger is defective.

Temperature
Some warmth is expected while power is transferred, but unusual heat is a stop condition. Heat can rise when coils are misaligned, when a metal object is trapped between them, or when the pad and adapter are poorly matched. Let both devices cool before trying again.

Troubleshooting when the phone does not charge
No charging indication at all
- Reconfirm that the exact model supports Qi or Qi2; a similar-looking model may not.
- Check that the pad’s wall adapter and cable are connected and that the pad’s indicator light, if present, is active.
- Remove the case and all metal or magnetic accessories.
- Reposition the phone so its receiving coil is centered over the pad.
- Try the pad with another known-compatible phone, if available, to separate a pad problem from a phone problem.
Charging starts and stops
- Keep the phone still and test without the case.
- Look for a foreign-object, liquid or temperature warning and follow the phone’s instructions.
- Use the pad’s recommended adapter rather than a low-power or damaged adapter.
- Remove nearby metal objects and check that the pad is on a level surface.
The phone charges slowly
Wireless output depends on the phone, pad, adapter, temperature and alignment. A generic Qi pad may deliver a different rate from the phone’s maximum wired or proprietary wireless rate. If the phone remains cool and shows a charging state, slower operation alone does not prove a fault; use the manufacturer’s and pad maker’s specifications to determine the supported rate.

When a USB-C port needs repair instead
Wireless charging is not a repair for a phone that lacks Qi hardware. It also does not restore data transfer, wired accessories, Android Auto or other functions that depend on the USB-C connector. Port repair becomes the appropriate path when any of those functions matter, when wireless charging is unavailable, or when the port shows physical damage.
Google’s Pixel support guidance states: “If your phone’s USB-C port appears burned, melted, or corroded, learn how to file a warranty claim or find an authorized repair partner.” Treat those symptoms as a safety issue rather than repeatedly inserting a cable. Huawei likewise directs users whose damaged-port problem remains unresolved to a Huawei Customer Service Center and advises backing up data first. Samsung recommends visiting a Samsung walk-in service center or scheduling a repair when wireless charging still fails after troubleshooting.
Before handing over a phone for service, back up data while the device still turns on. Ask the manufacturer or an authorized provider whether the repair is covered by warranty, whether water or impact damage affects eligibility, and whether the replacement port is an original part. Availability and pricing vary by country, model and warranty status, so no single repair cost applies universally.

What about USB-C receiver dongles?
Receiver dongles that plug into USB-C are model-specific accessories, not a universal workaround. They still depend on the connector making a safe electrical connection, which may be impossible or unsafe when the port is broken. Manufacturer sources do not establish that one dongle works across every non-Qi phone. Consider one only when the accessory maker explicitly lists the exact model and the port is physically safe; otherwise choose an authorized repair.
A practical decision checklist
- Model supports Qi or Qi2: Buy or borrow a certified pad, remove interference and test alignment.
- Model does not support wireless charging: Do not spend money on a pad expecting it to work; arrange port repair or replacement of the phone.
- Port is merely intermittent with no visible hazard: Wireless charging can keep a compatible phone powered while you arrange service, but it will not fix the connector.
- Port is burned, melted, corroded, wet or smells burnt: Stop wired testing, back up data if safe, and contact the manufacturer or an authorized repair partner.
- Wireless charging also fails after case removal and alignment checks: Follow the phone maker’s support process and use a service center if troubleshooting does not resolve it.
Bottom line for a broken USB-C port
A wireless pad is a useful workaround only when the phone was built with Qi or Qi2 receiving hardware. Verify the exact model first, use certified equipment with its own power supply, keep metal and thick cases away from the coils, and stop immediately for heat, burning, corrosion or liquid warnings. Phones without a built-in receiver—and phones whose damaged connector must support data or wired accessories—need an appropriate USB-C repair rather than a wireless accessory.
