Yes. The Xbox edition of SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds is designed to carry Xbox game audio and party or in-game voice chat. Connect its 2.4 GHz wireless dongle to the console and set the dongle to Xbox mode. The earbuds have built-in microphones for chat.
Do not treat this as a standard Bluetooth headset setup. SteelSeries presents the 2.4 GHz dongle as the gaming connection, while Bluetooth 5.3 is intended for quickly switching to a compatible mobile device.
What you need for Xbox audio and chat
There are three pieces to the setup: the Arctis GameBuds for Xbox, their 2.4 GHz wireless dongle, and the Xbox console. The Xbox model’s dongle includes two modes: Xbox and PlayStation/PC. For an Xbox console, the dongle must be operating in Xbox mode.
SteelSeries describes the earbuds as supporting game chat through their built-in microphones. That means the same wireless link is intended to deliver game sound to the earbuds and carry your voice back to the console. You do not need a separate wired microphone for the advertised use case.

Check the edition before connecting anything
Xbox edition
The Xbox version is the correct model for this question. Its dual-mode dongle provides an Xbox mode and a PlayStation/PC mode. The Xbox mode is the one intended for connecting to an Xbox console.
PlayStation edition
The PlayStation edition is a single-mode model intended for PlayStation and PC. It is not the edition to choose when your primary console is Xbox. The two versions should not be treated as interchangeable simply because they share the Arctis GameBuds name.
Check the product name on the packaging, order confirmation, or dongle before troubleshooting. If the hardware is the PlayStation edition, changing Xbox audio settings will not turn it into the Xbox model.

2.4 GHz dongle for Xbox gaming
SteelSeries positions the 2.4 GHz connection as the gaming path. The dongle connects to the console over USB, and the earbuds communicate with that dongle wirelessly. This is the connection to use for Xbox game audio and party chat.

Bluetooth 5.3 for mobile devices
The earbuds also support Bluetooth 5.3 as a quick-switch connection for compatible mobile devices. This can be useful when you want to take a phone call or listen to a phone without treating the phone connection as the Xbox audio link.
The official product information does not present ordinary Bluetooth pairing directly to the Xbox console as the setup for this product. Keep the roles separate: use the dongle for Xbox, and use Bluetooth when switching to a supported mobile device.
Xbox setup: a practical step-by-step procedure
The following sequence follows the documented connection design. SteelSeries’ comparison material identifies the dongle modes, but the material reviewed does not publish a complete, button-by-button Xbox pairing procedure. Use the product’s own pairing instructions if the earbuds and dongle do not link automatically.
- Confirm the model. Verify that the earbuds and dongle are the Arctis GameBuds for Xbox, not the PlayStation edition.
- Locate the dongle. Use the supplied 2.4 GHz wireless dongle rather than attempting to make a direct Bluetooth connection to the console.
- Connect the dongle to the Xbox. Plug it into an available USB port. If your console or setup uses USB-A, SteelSeries says the US package includes a USB-C-to-USB-A converter.
- Select Xbox mode. Set the dual-mode dongle to its Xbox position. The other position is labeled for PlayStation/PC and is not the mode intended for Xbox console operation.
- Power the earbuds and allow the wireless link to establish. Keep the buds close to the dongle during the first connection and follow the supplied pairing directions if they do not connect.
- Open a game with sound. Confirm that game audio is arriving in both earbuds. This separates a wireless-link problem from a chat-specific problem.
- Join or start party chat. Speak normally and check whether other participants can hear the built-in microphones. If game sound works but chat does not, continue with the chat checks below rather than changing the Bluetooth connection.
Checking game audio and party chat separately
If game audio is missing
- Confirm the dongle is physically connected to the Xbox and is set to Xbox mode.
- Make sure the earbuds are powered and paired with that dongle, not waiting for a mobile Bluetooth connection.
- Test another game or the console’s own audio output to determine whether the problem is limited to one title.
- Review the console’s selected headset and game-audio output settings. The exact menu labels can vary by Xbox software version, so use the current labels shown on your console.
If game audio works but chat does not
- Check the Xbox party or in-game voice-chat settings and verify that voice chat is enabled for the session.
- Confirm that the game has permission to use voice chat and that you have joined the intended party or channel.
- Speak close enough to the earbuds’ built-in microphones for a clear test, then ask another participant whether they hear you.
- Reconnect the dongle and repeat the test. A successful game-audio link does not by itself prove that a particular game’s chat channel is configured correctly.
If others hear you but you cannot hear them
That symptom points toward the incoming-chat path or the console’s chat-mix settings rather than the microphone itself. Recheck the party and game-chat output controls, then test a different party or game. Keep the dongle in Xbox mode while doing so.

Using Bluetooth without interrupting the Xbox explanation
Bluetooth is best understood as a second connection for a compatible mobile device. For example, you can use the buds with a phone when away from the console, then return to the dongle-based gaming connection. Bluetooth 5.3 does not replace the Xbox dongle in the documented Xbox setup.
If a phone is connected while you are diagnosing Xbox audio, temporarily disconnect or disable the phone connection. This removes an extra variable and makes it clear whether the buds are communicating with the Xbox dongle.
Battery life and what the published figures mean
SteelSeries publishes the following battery figures for the product. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
| Specification | Published figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Earbud runtime | 10 hours per charge | Manufacturer figure; the stated total-use condition is 2.4 GHz with noise control off. |
| Total runtime with charging case | Up to 40 hours | Manufacturer maximum; stated for 2.4 GHz with noise control off. |
| Mobile wireless | Bluetooth 5.3 | Described as a quick-switch option for compatible mobile devices. |
| Xbox connection | 2.4 GHz wireless dongle | Use the Xbox mode on the Xbox edition’s dual-mode dongle. |
Actual runtime can differ when conditions change, including use of noise control, volume, wireless activity, and charging habits. The published “up to” figure should not be read as a guaranteed runtime for every session.

No lights, power, or response
Charge the earbuds and case, then retry the connection. If there is still no response, consult the included product instructions for the correct power and pairing behavior. The material available for this guide does not specify a universal reset sequence, so avoid assuming that a button combination from another headset applies here.
The Xbox does not recognize the connection
Start with the physical path: remove and reinsert the dongle, try another suitable USB port, and use the included USB-C-to-USB-A converter when required by the port arrangement. Confirm the dongle is in Xbox mode. Do not substitute a phone’s Bluetooth pairing process for the dongle connection.
The earbuds connect, then audio cuts out
Bring the earbuds closer to the dongle for a controlled test, remove unnecessary USB adapters or hubs from the path, and restart the console and earbuds. If the behavior continues, follow the current SteelSeries pairing or support instructions for your firmware state. The official material reviewed does not establish that every firmware version or individual unit behaves identically.

Voice chat fails in only one game
Test Xbox party chat or another title. If chat works elsewhere, inspect that game’s voice settings, channel selection, and account or privacy permissions. This is a game-configuration issue until a second chat environment shows the same failure.
What the official information does and does not guarantee
The product information supports the general compatibility answer: the Xbox edition is intended for Xbox gaming, the 2.4 GHz dongle is the gaming connection, and the built-in microphones are advertised for in-game chat. It does not prove that every game, console audio setting, firmware version, or individual unit will behave in exactly the same way.
For that reason, compatibility should be separated from troubleshooting certainty. A correctly selected Xbox model and Xbox-mode dongle establish the intended hardware path; they do not override a game’s chat permissions, a console’s current audio configuration, or a pairing problem.

Use the Arctis GameBuds for Xbox, connect the included 2.4 GHz dongle, and select Xbox mode. That is the documented route to Xbox game audio and party or in-game chat through the earbuds’ built-in microphones. Reserve Bluetooth 5.3 for compatible mobile devices, and troubleshoot game audio and voice chat as separate paths when only one of them fails.
