Not at the same time—and Sony does not say whether its detachable PS5 disc drive can be repeatedly moved and paired between consoles. If you want to play a physical game on a different PS5, use that console’s compatible disc drive and insert the game disc there. Sharing digital purchases is a separate feature, Console Sharing and Offline Play, which can be enabled on one PS5 at a time.
First, separate the drive from the game disc
“PlayStation disc drive” can mean the detachable accessory for certain PS5 models, or simply a console’s built-in drive. The compatibility details below apply to Sony’s detachable PS5 drive, model CFI-ZDD1; they do not describe built-in drives on older PlayStation consoles.
A disc-based game is tied to the physical disc: to play it on another compatible PS5, insert the disc into that console. Sony’s transfer instructions say to insert a disc-based game into the destination console to install it. The disc is also needed to play the disc-based copy. Using one drive on two consoles simultaneously
Sony describes the CFI-ZDD1 as an accessory attached and paired with a PS5. Its public product and setup information does not describe one drive operating on two consoles at once, so do not plan on simultaneous use.

Moving the drive between consoles over time
Sony says an internet connection is required to pair the drive and console during setup. Its public instructions do not establish whether each move requires another pairing, whether repeated transfers are supported, or whether a transfer limit applies. If your plan depends on moving a drive between specific consoles, ask PlayStation Support to confirm before relying on it.
Check whether your PS5 supports the CFI-ZDD1
The detachable drive is not compatible with every PlayStation or every PS5. Sony’s US setup guidance lists PS5 consoles in the CFI-2000 and CFI-7000 model groups. Sony’s UK product listing identifies the accessory as CFI-ZDD1 and lists PS5 Pro and PS5 Digital Edition model groups CFI-2000 and CFI-2100. Compatibility listings can differ by region and change, so check your console’s exact model number against Sony’s local listing before buying. Sony says the PS5 Digital Edition CFI-1000 model group does not support disc-based games or media. The detachable drive can be added to CFI-2000 group Digital Edition consoles and consoles in the CFI-7000 group. Sony’s disc and media playback support page

- Turn off the PS5, unplug its power cord and other cables, and let the console cool.
- Remove the appropriate cover and feet, attach the drive, and replace the cover and feet supplied with the drive.
- Reconnect the console and follow the on-screen setup. Sony requires an internet connection to pair the drive and PS5 during setup.

Choose the option that matches what you own

Digital game sharing is a different feature
Console Sharing and Offline Play shares eligible purchased and downloaded games and media with other users on the enabled PS5, including when that console is offline. Enable it or switch consoles
- On the PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- To use the feature on a different PS5, turn it off on the previous console before enabling it on the new one.
Sony says the setting is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in to PlayStation. Selected PlayStation Plus benefits can also be shared on one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play activated, and on one PS4 activated as the primary PS4; the eligible benefits are subject to Sony’s stated limits.
