Yes—if it helps reviewers verify evidence and keeps a person accountable for the final answer. Treat AI-generated questionnaire responses as drafts, not proof: a citation is useful only when its source passage actually supports the claim and applies to the right product, region, deployment, and control scope.
What does it mean for a tool to verify an AI answer?
Questionnaire software can draft answers from compliance documents, policies, controls, uploaded evidence, and previously approved responses. Some products show citations or other evidence references, flag unanswered questions, or route work to reviewers. Those features can make an answer easier to check, but they do not independently establish that it is correct.
That distinction matters when a response says a control is in place. The cited document might be outdated, describe a different product or deployment, omit an exception, or conflict with current evidence. The reviewer must check both what the source says and whether it applies to the question being answered.
AWS gives a useful example of the boundary: its Artifact Assurance Assistant says generated responses are grounded in AWS compliance documentation and include citations, but AWS advises users to review them against their specific requirements before relying on them officially. AWS documentation can support claims about AWS compliance materials; it does not automatically establish that a response fits a particular service, customer contract, or deployment. What should a reviewer check before approving an answer?
- Source support: Open the cited policy, control, audit artifact, or approved response. Confirm that the cited passage supports the actual wording, rather than merely discussing the same topic.
- Freshness and scope: Check the source date and whether it covers the product, region, deployment, and control scope the customer asked about.
- Exceptions and contradictions: Look for evidence that changes or qualifies a broad claim. For example, a policy may require MFA while current evidence records exceptions. A tool should make that discrepancy visible rather than confidently answering “yes.”
- Missing evidence: Confirm that unanswered or unsupported questions are flagged and sent to a responsible subject matter expert—not filled with a plausible-sounding guess.
- Final accountability: Ensure an authorized person can edit, assign, and approve material answers before the response is submitted.
In a Reddit discussion, one participant described the practical concern as “stale, contradictory, or unsupported answers”; another emphasized the quality of citations. That exchange is anecdotal, but it illustrates why citations must be checked rather than counted.
How do current tools describe their review workflows?
Product documentation describes several ways to organize drafting and review. These are vendor descriptions, not independent tests of answer accuracy.

- AWS Artifact Assurance Assistant: AWS says responses draw on AWS compliance documentation, include citations, and can be reviewed and exported, with citations included in the exported spreadsheet. AWS places responsibility on the user to check generated content against specific requirements before official use. AWS Artifact documentation.
- Vanta: Vanta describes generating answers from its security-document knowledge base and previous questionnaires, with review and approval, question assignment, and product and regional tags. Vanta’s questionnaire automation page.
- Concord: Concord says drafts can use policies, uploaded evidence, FAQs, and approved prior responses, and that each generated answer requires human review before finalization. Concord’s questionnaire overview.
- Secfix: Secfix describes drafts based on platform controls, evidence, documentation, and prior answers, with confidence levels and review before anything is sent. Secfix’s product page.
- Technolay and Wolfia: Technolay describes reusing prior answers only when requirements and scope remain compatible, sending evidence gaps to relevant experts, and requiring human approval. Wolfia describes answer-level source citations and routing unanswered questions to a human when it lacks evidence. Technolay; Wolfia.
These descriptions show that evidence-linked drafts and human review are available workflow patterns. They do not show that every answer produced by these products is correct, or that one product is more accurate than another.

Assess the review trail and fit with your process, not just how quickly the software fills in responses.
| Evaluation area | What to check |
|---|---|
| Evidence support | Can a reviewer open the exact source passage, and does it substantiate the answer’s specific claim? |
| Freshness and applicability | Can reviewers tell whether sources are current and relevant to the product, region, deployment, and exceptions in scope? |
| Gaps and conflicts | Does the tool expose missing, stale, or conflicting evidence and route the question to an owner? |
| Human review | Can subject matter experts edit, assign, and approve answers before they are sent? Is the approved response retained? |
| Input and output fidelity | Can it parse the customer’s actual spreadsheet, document, or portal and preserve the required structure when exporting? |
| Data governance | What company information is ingested, who can access it, and how is it handled? Ask to review the relevant documentation rather than relying on a general assurance. |
Test the workflow on a representative questionnaire that includes straightforward questions, product or regional distinctions, and at least one known exception or evidence gap. Check whether a reviewer can find the source, spot the qualification, correct the draft, and preserve the approved version. This tests whether the process makes review practical; it is not a substitute for an independent accuracy evaluation.
How should you interpret vendor performance figures?
Vanta’s 2026 product page reports that its AI answers an average of 80% of security questions automatically and states an acceptance rate of up to 95% for AI-generated answers. These are vendor-reported figures, not independently validated accuracy results or guarantees for a particular organization. The same page cites an IDC white paper published in January 2025 reporting security reviews completed 81% faster; Vanta identifies that report as sponsored by Vanta, so it is not a neutral cross-vendor benchmark. Vanta’s questionnaire automation page.
A 2024 preprint on RAG for security questionnaire automation reports qualitative improvements in response accuracy and operational efficiency in its abstract, but the available abstract does not provide a numerical effect size. It does not establish the accuracy of current commercial products. Zaynab Batool Reza et al., “RAG for Effective Supply Chain Security Questionnaire Automation”.

Is using one worth it?
It may be worthwhile for teams that answer similar questionnaires repeatedly, provided the tool reduces drafting and lookup work without hiding uncertainty. A useful system makes it easier to find the evidence, check its scope, resolve gaps, and preserve human approval. If it produces polished answers but makes those checks difficult—or treats a citation as proof—its speed can shift work from drafting to riskier review.
The reviewed product materials establish that evidence-linked questionnaire workflows exist; they do not provide an independent head-to-head evaluation proving that any listed tool verifies answers correctly. Make the decision based on your own review workflow and the documentation a vendor can show you. Capabilities and reported figures can change, so check current product documentation when evaluating a tool.
