No single sign reliably confirms that someone blocked you on Discord. A failed friend request, a missing direct message, or a limited-looking profile can have other explanations. Discord does not provide a public block-detection test, so treat these changes as clues—not proof.
What blocking changes on Discord
Discord’s Ignore and Block comparison describes several effects of a block:

- The accounts are no longer friends.
- Neither person can send the other direct messages.
- The blocked person cannot send a new friend request to the blocker.
- The blocked person sees a limited version of the blocker’s profile.
- In a shared space, the blocker may still tag or reply to the blocked person’s messages. Messages from the blocked person to the blocker are hidden without notifications, and the blocker can choose to reveal them.
These are documented effects from each account’s perspective, not a set of signals Discord exposes to confirm a block. A profile that appears limited, for example, is not an official diagnostic test.
What common signs may—and may not—tell you
A friend request fails
A failed request does not prove a block. Discord says friend requests may fail if the recipient has disabled friend requests; entering the username incorrectly can also prevent a request from going through. See Discord’s friend-adding guidance.

You cannot find or send a direct message
A missing conversation or a message that does not appear in the main inbox is not conclusive. Messages from people who are not friends may be routed to Message Requests, and Discord says routing can depend on age group and settings. Spam filtering and server or account messaging permissions can also affect contact. Check the Message Requests and Spam areas, along with the relevant privacy settings, before drawing a conclusion.
Messages appear hidden in a mutual server or group
Hidden messages in a shared space are not definitive evidence either way. Discord’s block comparison says the blocker may see the other person’s messages hidden and can reveal them; the blocker may still tag or reply to those messages. What you can see in a shared space does not establish whether a block exists.

The profile looks different
Discord says the blocked person sees a limited version of the blocker’s profile, but does not present profile appearance as a universal way to identify a block. Other settings and context may affect what you can see.

Because both features can hide messages, seeing a hidden message alone does not distinguish Ignore from Block.

- Check Message Requests and Spam, and review your own messaging and friend-request settings for an explanation for missing contact.
- If contact is unavailable, use Discord’s privacy and safety controls rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
- Avoid making alternate accounts or repeatedly attempting to contact someone. The available signs cannot establish why contact changed, and respecting a possible boundary is the safest course.
Discord’s Blocking & Privacy Settings guide explains blocking controls. It also says that when someone returns to a shared group chat containing a blocked user, Discord may alert that person and let them leave or stay; leaving does not notify the blocked user or other group members. That alert is for the blocker, not a block notification sent to the other account.
