Usually, yes. Removing a game from the PlayStation Store normally stops new purchases but does not by itself remove a completed digital purchase from the buyer’s library. Sign in to the account that paid for the game and check its Game Library (PS4 or PS5) or download list (PS3 or PS Vita). Access can still depend on the account remaining active, the correct platform and region, whether the entitlement came from PlayStation Plus, and whether the game requires online services that have shut down.
What delisting changes—and what it does not
A delisting is primarily a storefront decision. The product page may disappear, search may stop finding the title, and nobody new may be able to buy it. That is different from revoking an entitlement already recorded on a PlayStation account. Sony’s support guidance says purchases made on PS4 and PS5 appear in the purchasing account’s Game Library. Sony’s July 1, 2026 announcement about the PS3 and PS Vita Store changes also says previously purchased content will remain downloadable for the foreseeable future after the relevant closure date.
“For the foreseeable future” is deliberately not a lifetime guarantee. Availability can be affected by account status, platform compatibility, regional rules, technical limits, and the game’s own servers. Treat the purchase as an account-linked license that normally remains usable, not as an unconditional promise that every file and feature will always be available.

If you selected the game’s paid purchase option, completed checkout, and received a transaction record, the entitlement is normally attached to that PlayStation Network account. A later delisting generally prevents new sales rather than erasing that record. Use the same account—not merely the same console—when looking for the game.

A PlayStation Plus entitlement
Games obtained through a PlayStation Plus monthly benefit or catalog are a different case. They are access benefits tied to an eligible subscription and to the title’s continued inclusion in that benefit. If the subscription expires or the game leaves the catalog, the lock can be legitimate even though you once downloaded it. A separate purchase of the same game creates a different entitlement.

How to find and redownload a delisted purchase on PS5 or PS4
Do these checks in order. They distinguish a missing storefront listing from a missing entitlement and from a game that is present but locked.
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Open the account’s transaction history and confirm that the transaction completed. A failed authorization, canceled order, or purchase made by a family member will not create the entitlement you are checking.
- Open Game Library. On PS5, use the Games home screen and select Game Library; on PS4, open Library from the content area. Search the collection rather than the Store. A delisted title may have no current Store page but still appear here.
- Check hidden items. If the purchase is absent, review the hidden-games or hidden-content view in the library. Unhiding it can make the download button visible again.
- Restore licenses. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. This refreshes the console’s local license data; it does not repurchase the game.
- Check sharing settings when another account paid. On PS5, the purchasing account must have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on that console. On PS4, the purchaser’s account generally needs that console activated as its primary PS4. If the owner signs out, deletes the account, or changes activation, the other profile can lose its access.
- Separate a purchase from Plus access. Look at the game’s entitlement and your subscription status. If the title was supplied by Plus, confirm that the subscription is active and that the game is still included in the relevant benefit.
- Retry after checking service status. A temporary PlayStation service outage can prevent license checks or downloads. Retry when services are operating normally. If the error remains, save the exact code, platform, account region, and transaction details before contacting PlayStation Support.
Why a purchased game can show a padlock
The wrong account is signed in
Digital licenses follow the purchasing account. Console ownership, a shared household, or a different email address does not substitute for that account. Check the transaction history on every plausible account before assuming the delisting removed the game.

The license cache is out of date
A padlock can appear after restoring a console, changing the primary-console setting, or experiencing a network error. The platform-specific Restore Licenses command above forces the console to reconcile its local records with the account.
Sharing is no longer authorized
A non-purchasing profile depends on the purchaser’s console activation. On PS5, Console Sharing and Offline Play can be active on only one PS5 at a time for that account. On PS4, primary-console activation serves a similar purpose. If the owner recently changed consoles, the shared profile may be locked until activation is corrected.
The entitlement was subscription-based
A Plus icon or a history of downloading the game does not prove that you bought it separately. Check the original transaction type. A catalog title can remain installed yet refuse to launch when the subscription expires or the catalog license ends.

Downloading is not the same as keeping every feature
Delisting and server shutdowns are separate events. A publisher or Sony can stop selling a game while its offline code continues to run. Conversely, a game can remain downloadable but fail to start when its design requires a live connection.

For a named game, read its current official service notice and identify which version you own. “The servers are closed” does not automatically mean “the game will not launch,” and “the game is still in my library” does not guarantee that a server-dependent title will work.
What the PS3 and PS Vita Store changes mean in 2026–2027
Sony’s July 1, 2026 announcement describes a staged timetable rather than a single worldwide shutdown. Closures begin in select markets during 2026; other countries are scheduled for PS3 and PS Vita Store closures in July 2027. As of October 13, 2026, Sony’s US support notice says that, after a device’s closure, new purchases on that device will stop while previously purchased content remains downloadable for the foreseeable future. Do not assume that every country has already reached the same date.

The assurance applies to previously purchased content, not to new purchases after closure. It also does not override title-specific server requirements, account restrictions, or technical limits on a legacy device.
Redownloading on PS Vita
Sony’s Vita instructions direct you to Options > Download List to retrieve items downloaded or purchased previously. The guide identifies exceptions and says that an internet connection and device-activation limits can apply. Therefore, a redownload is generally supported for eligible prior purchases, but it is not an unconditional promise for every content type or every device state.

A PS3 purchase is not automatically a PS4 or PS5 license. A newer console may have no compatible version, while a remastered or cross-buy edition can have its own entitlement rules. Check the exact platform version in your account history and library before deleting local data from a legacy console.

The legal model: a license, not permanent ownership
Sony’s US Terms of Service, section 8.4 (March 2026), states: “When you order or purchase a product from PlayStation Store, you buy a personal license to use that product for private, non-commercial use. That license is not transferable unless your local applicable laws say it must be. This means you can use a product in the ways described in the license, but do not own the product.”
Practically, the license explains why the purchasing account is central and why transferring a downloaded file to another person does not transfer the right to use it. Sony’s terms also warn that deleting or closing the purchasing account may result in loss of access. Keep the account credentials, recovery methods, and transaction records safe if the game matters to you.
A title-specific check before you conclude the game is gone
- Identify the platform: PS3, PS Vita, PS4, or PS5, including whether you are trying to use a different-generation version.
- Identify the entitlement: completed purchase, Plus monthly benefit, Plus catalog access, or another account’s shared purchase.
- Confirm the region: Store availability and closure timing can differ by country, and a disc or account from another region may not match downloadable content.
- Check the library or download list: use the purchasing account and inspect hidden items.
- Refresh licensing: use the correct Restore Licenses path on PS4 or PS5, or the Vita Download List for eligible legacy content.
- Check the game’s service status: determine whether online functions ended and whether the core game requires a server.
- Record the failure: note the error code, date, platform, account region, and transaction ID before requesting support.
Following those checks lets you separate four different situations: a normal delisting with an intact purchase, a subscription that no longer qualifies, a local account or license problem, and a title whose online dependency has ended. Only the first is resolved simply by downloading from the library; the others require the corresponding account, subscription, activation, or service remedy.
