Usually, yes. If you bought a game outright with your PlayStation account, it normally remains available from that account’s Game Library even after Sony removes it from the PlayStation Store. A physical copy can also remain playable, provided the disc and console support the game.
Delisting only answers whether a new Store purchase is available. It does not, by itself, tell you whether an existing license can be downloaded, whether a PS5 upgrade exists, or whether the game’s online servers still operate. Those are separate checks.
What “delisted” means on PlayStation
A delisted game has been removed from sale in a particular PlayStation Store region or edition. New customers may no longer be able to buy it there. Delisting is different from removing a purchased game from an account, revoking a license, ending a subscription benefit, or shutting down multiplayer servers.

Sony’s support guidance says games purchased from PlayStation Store appear in the Game Library. That supports redownloading a prior purchase, but it is not a promise that every title will remain downloadable forever or that all features will continue indefinitely.
If you bought the game digitally
Start by proving which account owns the entitlement. A missing Store listing does not prove that the purchase is gone.
Check the purchasing account and transaction history
- Sign in to the PlayStation account used when the game was purchased. A different account on the same console will not necessarily show the title.
- Open the console’s Game Library and search the full title, including the exact edition if there were standard, deluxe or regional versions.
- If it is not listed, review the account’s transaction history or purchase records. Confirm that the transaction was completed rather than cancelled, refunded or made on another account.
- From the Game Library, select the title and choose the download option if it is offered.
Family sharing can make ownership confusing. A game may have been bought by another account and shared to your console rather than purchased by you. In that case, the owner’s account must still have the entitlement, and the sharing or primary-console setting must remain valid.

Restore the license when the game is locked
A padlock icon, a missing download button or a message saying the content cannot be used can indicate a license synchronization problem rather than delisting.
- On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
- Sign in to the account that made the purchase and run the restore process.
- Restart the console, open Game Library again and test the download or launch.
Sony’s license guidance says restoring licenses does not affect saved data. It also recommends checking the account, purchase record and sharing settings when a purchased game appears locked.
Check sharing and console activation
- On PS5, review Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play when another account owns the game.
- On PS4, confirm that the purchasing account’s console is activated as that account’s primary PS4 where required for sharing.
- Do not assume that having the same console, user profile name or email address proves ownership; the transaction must belong to the signed-in PlayStation account.
PlayStation Plus is not permanent ownership
A game obtained through a PlayStation Plus monthly claim or catalog is an access benefit, not necessarily an outright purchase. If the subscription expires, the title can become locked even though it remains installed. A catalog game can also leave the service while the Store listing or another edition remains available.

For a Plus title, verify three things:
- The account that claimed or accessed the game still has the relevant subscription.
- The specific title is still included in the applicable monthly library or catalog in your region.
- The console is online long enough to validate the subscription entitlement when required.
Sony’s troubleshooting guidance directs subscribers to confirm that their membership is active and that catalog games remain available. Do not describe a monthly or catalog benefit as a permanent purchase. PS4 games redeemed as a Plus benefit are also not automatically entitled to every PS5 upgrade offer unless Sony explicitly says otherwise.
Playing a physical PS4 disc
A physical disc is a separate route from a digital Store license. If you own a supported PS4 disc, you can generally play it on a PS4 even when the digital listing has been delisted. Used-disc buyers must still verify the exact edition, region and condition of the disc.
Using a PS4 disc on PS5
PS5 backward compatibility covers the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games, according to Sony’s PlayStation Support guidance. Sony also identifies exceptions, including titles marked PS4-only, and says that list can change.

- A PS5 with a disc drive is required. A PS5 Digital Edition cannot read PS4 discs.
- Insert the disc to install or start the game, and keep it inserted whenever you play. The disc acts as proof of ownership even if the game data is installed on the console.
- Compatibility is title-specific. Check the exact game and edition before paying for a used copy.
- Some PS4 functions may not carry over to PS5, even when the main game runs.
Regional details can matter for a disc-to-digital offer or downloadable add-on. A disc from one market may not match the account region used for Store content, so verify the edition before relying on a digital upgrade or add-on.
Can you get a PS5 version after delisting?
Some delisted PS4 games have a PS5 upgrade path, while others do not. Eligibility, price and availability vary by game and can be time-limited. Delisting does not create an upgrade entitlement by itself.

For a digital purchase, open the game’s page or Game Library entry on the PS5 and look for a clearly labeled PS5 version or upgrade. For a disc, install the PS4 game first and check whether an upgrade option appears while the disc is inserted. Do not discard the disc after upgrading; the console may require it as the license check.

Online servers are a separate question
A retained license or working disc cannot restore an online service that the publisher has shut down. A delisted game may still launch offline while multiplayer, leaderboards, user-generated content, cloud features or other server-dependent functions no longer work.
Check the specific game’s official service notice rather than inferring server status from the Store listing. Sony’s service guidance documents that a server shutdown can remove online functions while leaving offline portions playable. The result varies by title: some games require a server connection even for menus or authentication, while others keep their single-player campaign available.
- Store status: Can a new customer buy the game?
- License status: Can an earlier buyer download and launch it?
- Compatibility: Does the PS4 or PS5 support this edition?
- Service status: Are the servers and online features still operating?
These four answers can differ. A game can be delisted but downloadable to prior buyers, playable offline on PS5, and unusable for multiplayer because its servers have closed.

Troubleshooting a missing or locked game
Follow this order so that a license issue is not mistaken for a delisting issue.
- Confirm ownership: Sign in to the account that made the purchase or redeemed the code.
- Check the library: Search Game Library, not only the current Store search results.
- Check the transaction: Verify the purchase, redemption, refund and region details in account history.
- Restore licenses: Use the PS5 or PS4 menu path listed above, then restart the console.
- Check sharing: Review PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play or PS4 primary-console activation if another account owns the game.
- Separate Plus access: If the title came from PlayStation Plus, confirm the subscription and catalog status.
- Test the edition: For a disc, inspect the region, disc condition and whether the console has a drive.
- Check service notices: If the game launches but multiplayer fails, look for a title-specific server shutdown or maintenance notice.
What common symptoms usually indicate

Before buying a used copy
For a delisted game with a physical release, a used disc can be the most dependable way to obtain it, but availability is title-specific. Confirm that the disc edition actually exists, that it includes the content you want, and that it is compatible with your console.
- Identify whether the release is PS4, PS5 or another platform.
- Choose a PS5 model with a disc drive if you intend to play a PS4 disc on PS5.
- Check whether the game is marked PS4-only or has known compatibility exceptions.
- Ask whether the disc is from a region compatible with your account and downloadable add-ons.
- Expect the disc to remain necessary for play, even after installation or a digital upgrade.
- Do not assume that a physical copy restores closed servers or delisted downloadable extras.
Bottom line for PS4 and PS5 owners
A prior outright purchase is usually still playable: sign in to the owning account, find the title in Game Library and restore the license if necessary. A PS Plus title requires an active subscription and continued catalog availability. A PS4 disc works on PS5 only with a disc-drive console and a supported game. Any PS5 upgrade and every online feature must be checked separately for the exact title, edition and region.
