The A.H. Beard King Koil Alair is discontinued, according to CHOICE, so it is not a current model to shop for as new stock. CHOICE lists a queen-size, firm pocket-spring mattress with 14 layers, but its detailed test results and expert rating are available only to members. That leaves too little public evidence to recommend the Alair on performance alone.
What is the King Koil Alair?
The Alair was a spring mattress sold through in-store retail. CHOICE’s listing covers the queen size and describes its claimed firmness as firm. It also marks the model as discontinued. The listing establishes the model’s published specifications, not how it feels or performs for a particular sleeper.
What are its published specifications?
CHOICE lists a pocket-spring core, 352 springs per square metre, 14 layers, a weight of 45 kg and a thickness of 35 cm. It says dimensions were not tested, and cover composition was not tested. These figures are listing details; they do not independently establish comfort, support or durability.

How did it perform in testing?
CHOICE displays test categories for support, stability, sagging resistance, breathability, wear and warmth, but the detailed results and expert rating are members-only in the accessible review. Without those results, it is not possible to judge the Alair’s performance across those categories or assign it an overall score.

The available public information also does not provide model-specific owner experiences. A.H. Beard’s current King Koil page includes testimonials about other mattresses, not the Alair, so those comments cannot establish how Alair owners found it.
What did the Alair cost?
CHOICE records a listed price of $4,000 and a price paid of $1,750 on sale or after bargaining. The accessible listing does not state the year for either figure. They are historical review price data, not current offers or a reliable guide to the price of any second-hand or remaining-stock listing.

Can you still buy the Alair, or is there a replacement?
CHOICE labels the Alair discontinued. A.H. Beard’s current King Koil page names Harvey Norman, Forty Winks, Domayne and leading independent retailers as outlets for the broader King Koil range, but that does not confirm Alair inventory at any retailer. Nor does it identify a direct successor.
A.H. Beard describes the current King Koil range as using individually pocketed springs and says this construction helps minimize partner disturbance. Those are manufacturer statements about the broader range; the available model-specific Alair listing does not confirm that the current technologies or claims apply to this discontinued mattress.

How to assess an Alair listing or choose another mattress
If you find a listing for an Alair, treat the seller’s exact model and condition as questions to verify rather than assuming it is new, available through an authorized retailer or equivalent to a current model. For a current alternative, compare the exact construction and model-specific test evidence instead of relying on a shared brand name.
- Try the mattress in person, if possible, to assess whether its feel and firmness suit you.
- Look for support and durability results for the specific model; the public CHOICE listing does not expose the Alair’s detailed ratings.
- Compare the price with the retailer’s return policy and any comfort-trial terms.
- Check the precise model name and construction. The available evidence does not establish a one-to-one replacement for the Alair.
