Yes. An iCloud+ subscriber can share the plan with up to five other people through Family Sharing, for a group of six in total. Everyone uses a separate Apple Account: the group shares the subscription, storage pool and eligible features, but not one another’s private photos, files or documents. The important exception is visibility of storage usage—family members can see how much iCloud storage each person is using.
What family sharing iCloud+ actually does
Family Sharing connects the accounts in one family group. When an iCloud+ plan is shared, the group receives access to the subscriber’s storage allowance and the premium features included with that plan. Sharing does not merge Apple Accounts, move files between accounts or create a common photo library by itself.
The subscription and storage pool are shared
The family uses one iCloud+ allowance rather than giving every person a separate copy of the plan. Each member stores data under their own Apple Account, while the available capacity comes from the shared plan. The person who pays for iCloud+ can share it even if that person is not the Family Sharing organizer.
Premium features can be available to the group
Apple lists features such as iCloud Private Relay and Hide My Email among the iCloud+ benefits that can be shared. Which features work for a particular member can depend on the feature, operating system, account and region. Check the options shown in the member’s Apple Account rather than assuming every feature is available everywhere.

Sharing storage is not the same as sharing content
Family Sharing may also be used for separate arrangements, such as a shared photo album. That is an additional choice made in Photos or another service. It does not make a person’s private iCloud Photos library, iCloud Drive files or documents visible merely because the storage subscription is shared.
What family members can and cannot see

The storage-usage distinction matters
Content privacy and usage privacy are different. A family member cannot open another member’s private library simply because the group pays for one plan, but the amount of capacity that member consumes is visible to the group. Someone could therefore infer that an account stores a large photo library or many files, while still being unable to view those items.
What a separately shared item reveals
If you invite relatives to a shared album or give them access to an iCloud Drive folder, they can see whatever that invitation permits. Review the item’s participants and permissions separately from the iCloud+ settings. Removing iCloud+ sharing does not automatically undo every independent album or file invitation.

Plan limits, storage tiers and eligibility
Apple’s current sharing guidance allows the subscriber plus up to five other family members, and supports a shared allowance of up to 12 TB. Apple’s current iPhone guide for iOS 27 lists these iCloud+ storage tiers:

These are capacity tiers, not five separate allocations. One member can use most of the space, leaving less available for everyone else. The sources for these limits were current in October 2026, but Apple can change tiers, menus, system requirements or regional availability. The choices displayed for your Apple Account and country are authoritative at the time you subscribe.
Family group size
A Family Sharing group can contain the subscriber and up to five additional members. The limit applies to the group, not to the number of devices each person owns. A member can use iCloud+ on the Apple devices signed in to that member’s Apple Account.

Regional and feature differences
Storage plans and features may vary by region and by operating-system version. iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email and other benefits can have their own availability rules. If a feature is absent from the subscription screen, check the account’s country or region and Apple’s current support documentation before treating the absence as an account problem.

Set up Family Sharing first if the family group does not already exist. Then enable iCloud+ sharing from the device of the member who owns the subscription. The organizer does not have to be that subscriber.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap Family.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Choose iCloud+.
- Follow the prompts to share the existing plan with the Family Sharing group.
The labels can move slightly between iOS or iPadOS releases. If you do not see the subscription, confirm that the device is signed in to the Apple Account that owns the iCloud+ plan and that the person is in the intended Family Sharing group.

On Mac
- Choose Apple menu and open System Settings.
- Select Family.
- Open Subscriptions.
- Select iCloud+.
- Choose Share with Family and follow the on-screen instructions.
After enabling sharing
- Ask each member to verify that their own Apple Account is signed in on the device they use for iCloud.
- Check the family storage view to confirm that members appear and that the plan’s capacity is shown.
- Explain to the group that storage usage is visible, while private content remains account-specific.
- Review separately shared albums, folders and documents; those permissions are not controlled by the iCloud+ subscription switch.
If someone already pays for an individual iCloud+ plan
A member who subscribes individually has two choices: keep that personal plan while remaining in the Family Sharing group, or switch to the family-shared plan. Apple says the member cannot use both plans at the same time.

Before switching, compare the member’s current usage with the space likely to remain in the family pool. A large personal library can consume a substantial portion of the shared allowance even though its contents stay private.

What happens when a member leaves or sharing stops
A person who leaves the shared plan can purchase an individual iCloud+ plan. The immediate issue is capacity: Apple provides 5 GB of iCloud storage without a paid plan, so a member using more than that needs enough personal storage to cover the data already stored.

If the account has more data than its available storage
Apple says that, when stored content exceeds the available amount after leaving a shared plan, new photos and videos will not upload to iCloud Photos, files will no longer upload to iCloud Drive, and iOS or iPadOS devices will stop backing up. Existing data may remain in the account, but cloud syncing and backups cannot continue normally until sufficient capacity is restored.
A safe exit sequence
- Check the member’s current storage usage before leaving the family group.
- Choose an individual iCloud+ tier large enough for that usage, or reduce stored data first.
- Confirm that the personal plan is active before removing the account from the shared arrangement.
- Open iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive and device-backup settings afterward and verify that uploads and backups resume.
Privacy and household-management decisions
When shared storage is a good fit
- The family wants one subscription to cover several accounts.
- Members are comfortable with the group seeing each person’s storage total.
- The planned capacity leaves headroom for photo libraries, device backups and documents.
- Everyone understands that shared albums and folders require separate invitations.
When an individual plan may be preferable
- A member needs an independent billing arrangement or does not want storage usage visible to relatives.
- The family pool is nearly full and upgrading would cost more than separate plans for lighter users.
- A person is likely to leave the Family Sharing group soon and wants to avoid a capacity change.
What the organizer should explain
Tell members exactly what is observable: the plan and each account’s storage consumption. Do not describe the arrangement as a shared drive or family photo library. Clarifying that distinction prevents accidental sharing of sensitive documents and avoids surprises when someone notices the group’s storage meter.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
The iCloud+ option is missing
- Confirm that Family Sharing has already been set up.
- Check that the device is signed in to the Apple Account that owns the paid iCloud+ subscription.
- Open the subscription path again: Settings > Family > Subscriptions > iCloud+ on iPhone or iPad, or Apple menu > System Settings > Family > Subscriptions > iCloud+ on Mac.
- Consider whether the account’s country or region supports the plan or feature you expect.
A member still sees a personal plan
That member may have chosen to keep an individual subscription. Apple does not combine both plans for simultaneous use. Review the member’s iCloud+ subscription choice and compare the personal allowance with the family pool before switching.

Use the family storage view to identify which accounts consume the most capacity, then decide whether to remove unnecessary backups or files, keep a member on an individual plan, or move the group to a larger tier. Do not assume that inspecting usage reveals the files themselves; the usage figure and the content are separate.
Uploads or backups stopped after someone left
Check whether the account is above its available allowance. If it is, buy enough individual storage or reduce the stored data, then verify iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive and device-backup status.
Bottom line for families
iCloud+ can be shared with up to five other family members through Family Sharing, with plans reaching 12 TB. The arrangement shares subscription benefits and capacity—not personal libraries. The trade-off is that every member can see how much storage each account uses, so choose a tier with realistic headroom and explain the visibility rule before inviting people.
