Yes. Prologue to Tau is a permanent, replayable Codex quest for players who have completed The Hex and The Old Peace. Replaying it shows the story again for lore; it does not wipe your save, remove quest completion, or grant the original quest rewards a second time.
What “replay” means for Prologue to Tau
Digital Extremes describes the Prologue chapters as a permanent addition to Warframe’s main story and explicitly labels them replayable. The replay runs on your existing account so you can revisit the chapters, dialogue, and missions without starting the game over.
This is different from resetting a character or creating a new account. A replay is a second story run layered onto completed progression. Your completed quests, owned items, and other account state remain associated with the same account.
Who can replay it?
Required quests
You must complete both of these quests before the Tau Prologue Series appears as an available Codex entry:

These are eligibility requirements, not optional story recommendations. If either quest is unfinished, complete it first and then check the Codex again.
When it became available
The Prologue was added to the Codex on October 15, 2026. It is a permanent addition that can be completed at your leisure, rather than a limited window that disappears when an operation ends.
How to start the replay from the Codex
- Finish The Hex and The Old Peace on the account you want to use.
- Open Warframe’s Codex.
- Choose the Tau Prologue Series entry.
- Select the Prologue chapter you want to replay and follow the on-screen launch option.
The official notices describe the launch point as the Codex’s Tau Prologue Series. They do not document a separate account-reset menu, a manual save editor, or a chapter-by-chapter checkpoint selector.

No documented reset occurs. Replaying is a lore-focused run on the existing account. It does not replace your account save or roll your progression back to an earlier point.

Warframe Support explains the general replay rule this way: “Most quests cannot be replayed once completed. There are few exceptions as displayed below, however replays are for lore purpose only and completing the quest again will not give you the quest reward again.” Prologue to Tau is one of those exceptions.
In practical terms, a replay should not undo:
- the completed status of The Hex, The Old Peace, or other finished quests;
- items, weapons, Warframes, currencies, or equipment already on the account;
- access unlocked through your existing story progression; or
- the unified progression associated with your Cross Platform Save account.
The Cross Platform Progression documentation treats quests and items as part of the unified Cross Platform Save. Running a replay is therefore distinct from creating, merging, or replacing that account save.
What happens to quest rewards?
The original quest reward is not awarded again when you replay Prologue to Tau. The replay exists to let you experience the narrative another time, not to farm the initial completion reward.

The permanent story chapters
Prologue to Tau remains in the Codex after the operation ends. Its availability is tied to the quest prerequisites and Codex entry, not to the operation’s active schedule.
The limited operation
Taubound was a separate operation with its own rewards and dialogue. The official announcement states that the operation itself has no rerun. Replaying the Prologue does not replay the operation, restore its limited rewards, or reproduce its event dialogue.

What if the game crashes or disconnects?
Digital Extremes reported crashes when players began Prologue to Tau and published a specific workaround for access to the Dark Refractory:

- Travel to a Calm instance of the Necralisk.
- Use Fast Travel to return to the Sanctum Anatomica.
- Try to access the Dark Refractory again.
The wording from the crash notice is cautious: going to a Calm Necralisk instance and then using Fast Travel “may allow you to access the Dark Refractory without issue.” It is a workaround, not a guarantee that every crash has the same cause.

Recovering after an interrupted chapter
If a crash or disconnect interrupts a chapter, restart the game and open the Codex. Check the Tau Prologue Series entry and launch the replay from there if it is available.
The published materials establish that the series is permanent and replayable, but they do not promise a manual checkpoint selector or an account-level quest-reset button. Do not assume that reopening the entry will clear a partially completed chapter, and do not delete account data to try to force a reset.
Replay versus starting over
Players sometimes consider making a new account because they want to experience the story from the beginning. That is unnecessary for Prologue to Tau and carries a much larger progression cost.

Common questions and precise answers
Where is Tau Prologue in the Codex?
After completing The Hex and The Old Peace, open the Codex and select Tau Prologue Series. If it is not visible, verify both prerequisite quests are fully complete and restart the game before checking again.

Can I replay only one chapter?
The official notices confirm replayable Prologue chapters and the Tau Prologue Series Codex entry. They do not specify whether every chapter has an independent selector or how partial chapter progress is handled. Use the options shown in your Codex rather than assuming a chapter-reset control exists.
Will replaying mark the quest incomplete?
No documented behavior changes the completed quest status. The replay is for lore on the existing account.
Can I earn the first-time reward again?
No. Warframe Support’s replay policy says that completing a replayable quest again does not grant its quest reward again.
Does replaying bring back Taubound?
No. Taubound and the Tau Prologue are separate. The Prologue remains permanently accessible, while the operation has no documented rerun.
Should I reset my account if the replay is stuck?
No. There is no documented need or supported account-level reset for this situation. Restart the game, check the Codex, and try the Calm Necralisk-to-Sanctum Anatomica Fast Travel workaround if the problem involves the Dark Refractory.
