No. Nintendo says Switch 2 owners should not replace the battery themselves. Its guidance directs battery replacement to a qualified professional or Nintendo service, depending on region. Don’t open or deform the battery; contact Nintendo support for the service route available where you live.
Why you should not replace it yourself
The Switch 2 and some accessories contain rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Nintendo warns that leakage or combustion products can cause injury and damage to the system. Its safety guidance says: “Do not disassemble, attempt to repair, or deform the battery.” Nintendo of America’s Switch 2 safety information includes this warning.
Nintendo Europe is explicit that owners should not replace the batteries themselves: “The batteries must be removed and replaced by a qualified professional.” Nintendo Europe’s health and safety information gives that direction. Nintendo Japan likewise says console and controller batteries cannot be replaced by customers and directs owners to its service centers. Stop trying to use the device or open it to inspect the battery, and contact Nintendo support or the appropriate authorized service provider in your region. Nintendo Japan notes that swelling can occur as a battery ages or after repeated charging and may accompany shorter battery life; its guidance directs owners to service rather than customer replacement. For disposal of a device with an internal battery, follow local disposal instructions and do not dismantle it. Nintendo Japan’s battery FAQ addresses swelling and disposal.

Will opening the Switch 2 affect the warranty?
Warranty terms vary by region, and coverage depends on the device’s condition and Nintendo’s service assessment. In the United States and Canada, Nintendo says hardware products have a one-year warranty from the purchase date, proof of purchase is required, and coverage applies to defects in materials and workmanship. Physical damage is not covered; Nintendo or an authorized service center determines whether a repair qualifies. Check Nintendo’s US/Canada service information and Switch 2 troubleshooting guidance.
Nintendo’s US/Canada factory service terms also say it will not repair or replace a product found damaged by unauthorized modifications or tampering. That is not the same as a universal rule that any opening automatically voids every warranty. How to arrange service
- Use Nintendo support for your country. Start with the official regional support or repair page; Nintendo Japan, for example, directs owners to its service centers.
- Describe the battery issue without dismantling the console. If the battery is swollen, mention that when contacting support and follow its handling instructions.
- Have proof of purchase available. Nintendo requires it for a US/Canada warranty claim. Ask the provider whether the issue appears eligible for warranty service or would be paid service.
