Not inside the game itself. MLB The Show 26 has no documented importer for a personal playlist, MP3 library, or local walk-up tracks. On Xbox, the practical solution is to run Spotify in the background while you play, then lower or mute the game’s soundtrack. PlayStation players report a similar background-playback workaround, but that is community guidance rather than an official MLB The Show 26 feature specification. Nintendo Switch support is confirmed, but no official custom-music method is documented.
What “replace the soundtrack” means in MLB The Show 26
There are two different features people often mean by custom music. A true replacement lets the game import audio files, build a playlist, and use those songs in its menus, stadium presentation, or player-specific moments. The other option is external playback: a console music app runs at the same time as the game, while the game’s own music is turned down.
MLB The Show 26 is documented for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Its official support information does not list an in-game custom-soundtrack importer. That means there is no documented menu for selecting MP3s from a USB drive, console storage, or a streaming account and assigning them to the game’s jukebox or walk-up system.

External playback can still give you a personal soundtrack. It is a separate audio stream, however, so it will not become part of the game’s presentation. It will not automatically choose a different song for a particular batter, replace a menu cue, or attach a track to a created player. You hear your playlist continuously while the game supplies commentary, crowd noise, stadium effects, and other sounds that you leave enabled.

How to play your playlist on Xbox
Xbox has the clearest documented path because Spotify’s own Xbox guidance specifically describes background playback. The process does not modify MLB The Show 26 files or add music to its database; it simply lets Spotify continue while the game is active.
- Install or open Spotify on the Xbox. Sign in if prompted and choose the playlist, album, or other queue you want to hear.
- Start playback before launching or resuming MLB The Show 26. Confirm that a song is playing, then return to the game.
- Continue playing. Spotify states that playback continues when you return to a game. Your playlist therefore supplies the music while MLB The Show 26 remains in the foreground.
- Use the Xbox Guide for playback controls. Open the Guide when you need to pause, skip, select music, or change playback volume. You do not need to quit the baseball game to manage the queue.
- Balance the game’s audio. Open MLB The Show 26’s audio settings and reduce or disable its soundtrack music if that control is available in your installed version. Leave commentary, stadium ambience, crowd noise, and sound effects at the levels you want.
Spotify’s support guidance gives the relevant mixing advice: “Tip: If the game allows, you can disable in-game music for the best Spotify experience.” The wording matters because the game, rather than Spotify, determines which individual audio categories can be adjusted. If MLB The Show 26 exposes a separate music slider, lowering that slider is preferable to lowering the master volume: your playlist remains audible while commentary and on-field effects stay intact.
A practical Xbox mix
- Set the game’s soundtrack music to zero or to a very low level.
- Keep commentary high enough to follow pitch-by-pitch descriptions and analysis.
- Retain crowd and stadium ambience if you want the broadcast atmosphere around your playlist.
- Adjust Spotify volume from the Guide only after setting the game’s individual levels, so you can tell which source is too loud.
Slider names and their exact location can vary with the game’s audio-menu layout and future updates. Look for an Audio, Sound, or Presentation section rather than changing the console’s entire output volume. A master-volume reduction affects both the game and your external music and does not provide a clean replacement.

How PlayStation background playback works
A The Show community discussion reports that PS4 and PS5 can play Spotify in the background while a game is running. It also says that PS5 removed the older ability to import MP3s into the game. Treat this as a workaround that can depend on console software and the title’s audio controls, not as a guaranteed MLB The Show 26 integration.

- Open Spotify on the PlayStation console and start your playlist. Let the first track begin before returning to the game.
- Return to MLB The Show 26. If the console keeps the app active in the background, the playlist should continue while you play.
- Use the console’s available media controls when you need to pause or skip. The exact control presentation can change with PlayStation system software, so follow the controls shown by the console rather than assuming that MLB The Show 26 contains Spotify settings.
- Open the game’s audio settings. Lower or mute soundtrack music if the installed version provides a separate control. Keep commentary, crowd, stadium, and effects levels independent where the menu allows.
If Spotify stops when you return to the game, verify that the app is still active and restart playback before trying again. A community report cannot guarantee identical behavior across every system-software version, account configuration, or future game update. The important distinction is that Spotify playback is outside the game; MLB The Show 26 still has no documented importer that would make those tracks part of its internal music system.
What Nintendo Switch players can and cannot assume
The official MLB The Show 26 support result confirms Nintendo Switch as a supported platform. The available information does not document a Switch background-audio route, a Spotify integration, or a custom-playlist importer for the game.
Do not assume that the Xbox procedure transfers to Switch. On Xbox, the documented behavior depends on Spotify continuing while another game is running and on Guide-level playback controls. Without platform-specific documentation for Switch, there is no reliable step-by-step method to promise. You can use any soundtrack, presentation, or master-volume controls provided in MLB The Show 26 itself, but those controls select the game’s audio rather than importing your own songs.

Can you add MP3s or custom walk-up music?
There is no documented MLB The Show 26 feature for importing MP3 files from local storage, a USB device, or a PSP/PlayStation library. External Spotify playback is therefore not the same as custom walk-up music. It plays a continuous queue over the game; it does not assign a chosen file to a batter, created player, home-run animation, menu, or stadium event.

Older coverage can cause confusion because MLB 08 had a feature called “My MLB Music.” In a PlayStation.Blog announcement dated February 13, 2008, producer Jason Villa wrote: “My MLB Music will allow you to take the music you have on your PLAYSTATION 3 Hard Drive or on your PSP Memory Stick Pro Duo and create your own Jukebox Playlist.” That capability belonged to MLB 08 and its PS3/PSP environment. It is historical context, not evidence that MLB The Show 26 supports imported music on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch.
Keep commentary and stadium sound while using your playlist
The cleanest result comes from treating the two audio sources separately. Your playlist replaces only the role of soundtrack music; it does not need to replace the entire game mix.
Start with the game’s music category
Find the audio setting that controls menu or soundtrack music and lower it first. If the game offers only a broad music setting, reduce that setting and test an inning. Avoid lowering the master output unless you want every game sound quieter.
Preserve the sounds that carry information
Commentary can identify the count, explain a defensive shift, and describe a key play. Crowd and stadium sounds provide context for a home run, strikeout, or close call. Effects communicate contact, pitching, fielding, and menu selections. Keep these categories above zero, then raise or lower the external playlist until neither source masks the other.

Test in more than one game state
Menu music, presentation sequences, gameplay commentary, and replay audio may use different categories. Check a menu, a live at-bat, a pitching sequence, and a replay before settling on your levels. If the playlist is clear during play but the game becomes unexpectedly loud during a transition, revisit the soundtrack or presentation slider rather than changing the console’s entire volume.

The game’s songs are still audible
Lower the in-game soundtrack control again and check whether a second music or presentation category is enabled. If no separate category exists, the game may require a broader audio reduction, which also affects other sounds. In that case, compensate by raising commentary or effects only if the menu exposes separate sliders.
The playlist is too quiet
Raise Spotify’s volume from the Xbox Guide or the console’s available media controls, then recheck the game’s soundtrack level. Raising the external app alone cannot overcome a loud in-game music track; both sources must be balanced.
Playback pauses after returning to the game
On Xbox, confirm that Spotify was actually playing before you switched back and use the Guide to resume it. On PlayStation, background playback is community-reported rather than guaranteed, so check that the app remains available under your current system software and restart it if necessary.

You want a different song for each player
The workaround cannot provide player-by-player assignments. It is a continuous external playlist. Because MLB The Show 26 has no documented MP3 importer, there is no supported way to turn local files into in-game walk-up selections.
You are playing on Switch
There is no documented Switch procedure to troubleshoot. Confirm the game’s own audio options and avoid relying on Xbox or PlayStation instructions unless Nintendo publishes a platform-specific background-audio method.
Bottom line for each platform
On Xbox Series X|S, Spotify is the practical way to hear your own music during MLB The Show 26: start a playlist, return to the game, control it from the Xbox Guide, and mute or lower the game soundtrack. On PS5 or PS4, the same general idea is reported by the community, but it should be treated as a console-level workaround that may vary, not a documented game feature. On Nintendo Switch, custom playlist playback is not established by the available official information. Across all three platforms, the evidence does not support importing MP3s or replacing individual walk-up tracks inside MLB The Show 26.
