Usually, yes—but the correct action depends on where the information exists. A conversation in history, a saved AI memory, account-profile details, an inaccurate generated answer, and data pulled from a connected app are separate targets. Deleting one does not necessarily remove the others. The available controls also vary by country, account type, subscription, feature rollout, and whether an employer or school manages the account.
First identify what you want removed or corrected
Before changing a setting, classify the information. This prevents the most common mistake: deleting a chat while leaving a saved memory or source-app record untouched.

The word correct therefore has two meanings. You may be correcting what an assistant remembers about you, or requesting that a provider address inaccurate personal data appearing in a generated response. Those processes are not interchangeable.
How to remove or correct information in ChatGPT
Delete a conversation from chat history
To remove a conversation from the visible history, use ChatGPT’s delete-chat control for that conversation. Deleting the chat or deleting the account is the step that removes the content from chat history. This is different from changing whether new conversations may be used to improve models.

Turn off model-improvement use without deleting chats
ChatGPT has an Improve the model for everyone setting. When it is off, OpenAI says new conversations will not be used to train its models. Your saved chats remain in history, however, so this setting is an opt-out from a use of new conversations—not a deletion command. If you need the history removed, delete the chats separately.
Check Memory separately
ChatGPT’s Memory feature can save information used to personalize later responses. Deleting the conversation that led to a saved memory does not automatically delete that memory. Open the Memory controls, review saved items, and remove the specific memory or clear memories as appropriate. If the information is sensitive, check both the originating chat and the Memory list.
Make a formal privacy request
For access to, deletion of, or other requests about personal data, use the OpenAI Privacy Portal linked from its Privacy Center. A formal request is the appropriate route when the information is not exposed by an ordinary chat or Memory control, or when you want to exercise a privacy right rather than simply tidy your history.
Understand account and workspace limits
Account deletion is permanent and affects associated data and subscriptions. Treat it as a final step rather than a way to remove one isolated prompt. Self-service deletion is not available for managed workspaces; in that situation, contact the workspace owner or administrator.

The controls shown to you can depend on whether you are signed in, your plan, workspace policy, and feature rollout. The described Privacy Center rollout covers specified consumer and Business users and does not include Enterprise, Edu, or Healthcare workspaces. An organization’s policy may therefore determine what you can delete yourself and what must be handled by an administrator.
How to remove or correct information in Gemini
Delete prompts and chats through Gemini Apps Activity
For a personal Google Account, open Gemini Apps Activity. You can delete one activity item, a single day, a custom period, or all activity. This is the main route for removing Gemini prompts and associated conversations from the activity view.
Turn off Keep Activity, or change auto-delete
Gemini’s Keep Activity control is separate from deleting existing records. For adult users, Keep Activity is on by default. When it is off, Google says conversations may still be saved with the account for up to 72 hours so it can provide the service and process feedback.

Correct something Gemini remembers
If Gemini remembered a detail from earlier chats, Google’s guidance is to delete all chats containing that information. To correct something Gemini knows and uses in a response, turn Memory on and correct Gemini directly in the conversation. Google cautions that Gemini may not always get the correction right, so verify a later response rather than assuming one message permanently rewrote every stored representation.
Handle connected apps at both ends
If the information came from a connected app, delete the relevant Gemini chats and disconnect that app. Doing only one can leave the information accessible through the other source. Google also warns that a change to a connected app may take days to affect the Gemini experience. Correcting a response therefore does not necessarily correct the underlying record in the connected service; update or delete that source separately.
Report inaccurate personal data in a response
For inaccurate personal information in a Gemini response, Google documents a Help Center request and an in-app path: More > Report legal issue. The Gemini Apps Privacy Hub describes correction and objection rights under certain privacy laws, including the GDPR. Those rights depend on the applicable jurisdiction and circumstances; they are not a universal promise that every generated error can be edited out on demand.
Google explicitly notes that large-language-model experiences, including Gemini Apps, can hallucinate and present inaccurate information as factual. A report addresses the provider’s handling of the issue; it does not prove that the external source record was corrected.

Account for reviewer retention
Google says data associated with chats reviewed by human reviewers can be retained for up to three years and is not deleted when Gemini activity is deleted. This is a documented retention exception, not an indication that every deleted chat remains available in the product interface. Also remember that deleting Gemini activity does not delete information saved in other Google services.
How to remove or correct information in Perplexity
Edit profile information when the service provides an editor
Perplexity says most of its services allow users to change account-profile information. Use the profile or account settings when an edit control is available. This is the fastest route for correcting ordinary account details.
Request correction when no edit control exists
If a Perplexity service does not provide an update or correction function, its Privacy Notice says to contact the company and request correction of inaccuracies. Describe the exact personal information, where it appears, what is wrong, and the corrected version. Keeping the request specific helps the company identify the relevant record.

Submit an access or deletion request
Perplexity’s Privacy Notice describes requests for access to or deletion of personal data where applicable. Submit a data-privacy request through the form linked in that notice or contact support@perplexity.ai. Perplexity says it may verify your identity for most requests.

Expect legal and operational exceptions
Privacy rights are not absolute in every circumstance. Perplexity says some information may need to be retained for legal obligations, disputes, agreements, or other permitted purposes. Its notice also says historical information may remain in backups where allowed by law, so do not promise yourself immediate or complete erasure from every system.
The notice describes an appeal route and an EU/UK representative. If a request is refused or only partly fulfilled, use the appeal process described in the notice and state which part of the response you are challenging.

- Capture the exact item. Save the conversation title, date, response text, profile field, or source-app record that contains the information. This gives support staff a precise target without requiring you to disclose more personal data than necessary.
- Classify the target. Decide whether it is history/activity, a memory/profile, an inaccurate generated response, or connected-source data.
- Use the narrowest in-product control first. Delete the specific chat, remove the memory, edit the profile, or disconnect the integration when that control exists.
- Address every copy. Check whether the same information remains in a saved memory, another Google service, a connected app, a workspace, or a backup subject to retention rules.
- Escalate to the privacy route. Use OpenAI’s Privacy Portal, Google’s documented Help Center or legal-issue route, or Perplexity’s privacy form/support channel when a self-service control cannot correct the record.
- State the remedy you want. Ask for access, correction, deletion, objection to processing, or confirmation of the applicable retention exception. These are different requests and may receive different responses.
- Record the outcome. Keep the request date, case number, and the provider’s explanation of what was deleted, retained, or unavailable. A later response from the assistant is not, by itself, proof that every underlying copy changed.
Personal accounts versus work or school accounts
Managed accounts can have administrator-controlled settings. OpenAI says managed workspaces may require the workspace owner for deletion, and Google’s activity controls can be affected by Workspace policy. Before submitting a personal privacy request, check whether the account is tied to an employer or school and whether the organization—not you—controls retention, integrations, or exports.

- One toggle does not cover every data type. Turning off model improvement does not delete saved chat history, and deleting activity does not necessarily remove memories or information in another service.
- Generated text is not always the source record. Correcting an answer may address the provider’s output or processing, while the database, web page, connected app, or profile that supplied the detail remains unchanged.
- Retention rules can override immediate erasure. Human-review records, backups, legal obligations, disputes, and contractual needs can create exceptions.
- Rights depend on context. Country, privacy law, account type, organizational management, identity verification, and provider policy all affect what can be requested and what the provider must do.
- Timing varies. Google says connected-app changes may take days to affect Gemini, while Perplexity allows historical information to remain in backups where permitted by law.

The reliable approach is to identify the data target, use the matching control, and then check for memories, source-app copies, managed-account policies, and documented retention exceptions. That is more effective than treating “delete my AI data” as one universal switch.
