Yes—on PS3 and PS Vita, Sony says you can continue downloading games, add-ons and other content you already purchased after the regional PlayStation Store closure, for the foreseeable future. The company has not set a final redownload date, so this is continued access rather than a promise of permanent, guaranteed availability. You will not be able to make new PS3 or PS Vita Store purchases once the closure applies to your market.
The timing is regional. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on July 1, 2026 that selected PS3 markets begin closing in 2026, while PS3 and PS Vita Stores in all other countries are scheduled to close in July 2027. PSP follows a separate, older policy.
What Sony’s closure policy means
The closure removes the ability to buy new digital content; it does not immediately remove the download history attached to your PlayStation account. Sony’s current support notice says that after the applicable closure date you can keep playing content you already own and download content you previously purchased for the foreseeable future.
That distinction matters. A purchase made before your region’s deadline remains associated with the account that bought it. A game, expansion or soundtrack you never bought is not added to your account simply because it appeared in the Store, and a storage device cannot create an entitlement.

The date that applies to you is the date for your account’s market, not necessarily the date announced for another country. Sony’s July 2026 announcement identifies the markets above and gives July 2027 as the broad schedule for other countries.
What you can redownload
Previously purchased PS3 games
A PS3 game bought through your account before the regional closure remains in your download history. You can use the console’s Download List or the relevant account library to retrieve it again, including after deleting the local installation. The entitlement is tied to the purchasing account, so sign in with that account rather than a different user profile.
Previously purchased PS Vita games
The same rule applies to Vita software. If the game was purchased before the Store in your market closed, Sony’s notice supports downloading it again later through the Vita’s purchase history or download list. The policy concerns content you already acquired; it does not keep the Store open for new transactions.

Downloadable content
Previously purchased DLC is included in Sony’s reference to previously purchased content. That covers add-ons linked to a game you bought, provided the DLC was actually acquired by the same account. Redownloading the base game does not automatically grant DLC that was never purchased.

Before the closure reaches your market, Sony says DLC can still be purchased through a game’s in-game store, but payment must come from PlayStation wallet funds. Credit cards, debit cards and PayPal cannot be used directly at PS3 or PS Vita Store checkout. After the closure, Sony’s published wording supports downloading prior DLC purchases; it does not promise that new DLC can still be bought.
PlayStation Plus content
Sony’s support notice says existing PlayStation Plus subscriptions and content previously acquired through Plus remain accessible and downloadable under the same notice. Access still depends on the account and the conditions attached to the Plus entitlement. A title that was never added to your account is not converted into a permanent purchase by the Store closure.
What you cannot do after the regional closure
- Buy a new PS3 or PS Vita game: Store checkout for new purchases ends when the closure applies to your market.
- Buy a new add-on or other Store item: Sony’s announcement covers games, DLC and other digital content, not just full games.
- Assume an unpurchased item will become downloadable: Only content already associated with your account is covered.
- Use closure as a guarantee of online operation: Download rights and game-server availability are separate issues.
Wallet funds do not change these limits. Adding money before a deadline may let you complete an eligible purchase before closure, but the balance itself does not create rights to future Store inventory or restore an account entitlement.
How to redownload a game or DLC
- Identify the purchasing account. On the PS3 or PS Vita, sign in with the PlayStation account that originally bought the game or add-on. A different account may not show the item in its history.
- Open the console’s purchase history. Use the system’s Download List or library view. Sony’s legacy interfaces use these areas to list prior acquisitions; labels can vary by system software and content type.
- Select the item and start the download. Choose the game, DLC or other owned content and confirm the download to the console’s internal storage or a compatible storage device.
- Check available storage. Keep enough free space for the installation and any required patches. A drive can hold the files, but it cannot substitute for the account that owns them.
- Install and launch from the owning account. After installation, start the game while signed in as required by the item’s license. For DLC, install the add-on for the matching base game and region where applicable.
Do this while the console, account services and download history are working normally. Sony’s wording leaves the end of the “foreseeable future” period open, so relying on a download years later carries more uncertainty than downloading important software now.

DLC, regions and game functionality
Downloading is not the same as activating every feature
A successful redownload only restores the files and the account entitlement. Some games check servers for online multiplayer, rankings, events, authentication or other network features. Sony states that continued play is subject to each game’s existing online features and service availability. A game may therefore install and run offline while a discontinued online mode no longer works.
Base game and add-on compatibility
Keep the base game and DLC from compatible editions and regions. The Store closure does not merge separate releases, regional versions or accounts. If an add-on was bought for one account or edition, downloading another edition does not make that add-on appear.
Physical discs and digital DLC
A physical PS3 disc is a separate copy from a digital purchase. The disc can provide the base game when you have it, but it does not grant digital DLC that was never purchased. Conversely, redownloading digital DLC does not replace a disc or another form of the base game required by a particular release.

PSP owners should not apply the PS3 and Vita schedule to every PSP transaction. Sony’s support notice says PSP owners can continue downloading PSP content they already purchased from the PSP’s Download List. It separately records that PSP searches and in-game purchases ended on July 6, 2021.

In practical terms, a PSP purchase already attached to your account can remain retrievable through the Download List, but the PSP Store’s search and in-game buying functions are not a new option you can use before the PS3/Vita dates. PSP availability is therefore an older, separate policy rather than evidence that new purchases will continue on PS3 or Vita.
Prepare important purchases before closure
- Verify the account: Make a short list of the account used for each game and add-on. Avoid deleting an account that holds the licenses.
- Review the download history: Open the PS3 or Vita Download List and confirm that important games, DLC and previously acquired Plus items appear.
- Install high-priority items: Download software you expect to use, especially large games or rare DLC, while the service is operating and your hardware is healthy.
- Check storage and backups: Keep the console’s storage usable and maintain a separate backup of saves where the system and game support one. A backup protects local files; it does not transfer ownership to another account.
- Use wallet funds for last-minute eligible purchases: If you need DLC before the deadline, fund the wallet first because direct card and PayPal checkout are unavailable on PS3 and Vita. Complete the purchase before the regional closure.
- Test offline play: Launch essential games without relying on a network connection, then separately test any online feature you care about. This reveals server dependencies before you need the software.
Common problems and practical fixes
The item is missing from the Download List
First check that you are signed in to the account that made the purchase. If the item was obtained through a different account, a family member’s profile or a different regional account, it may not appear in your current history. Confirm the original transaction and the market associated with that account before assuming the entitlement disappeared.
The game downloads but DLC is not available in-game
Confirm that the add-on finished installing and that the installed base game matches the DLC’s release and region. Some games expose add-on content only after an in-game checkpoint or a restart. These are game-specific behavior issues, not a change to Sony’s redownload statement.

The console has no room for the download
Free space or replace the storage device with a compatible, working one, then retry from the Download List. Storage expansion changes capacity only; it does not restore a missing license or bypass account requirements.

The game starts but online functions fail
Treat this as a service-availability issue. Sony’s policy preserves play of owned content subject to each title’s existing online features and service availability, so an online mode can remain unavailable even when the game itself is installed correctly.

Does Sony guarantee access forever?
No. “For the foreseeable future” has no published end date, but it is not a forever guarantee. Sony has committed to continued redownloads of previously purchased PS3 and Vita content after the relevant Store closure while that policy remains in effect. Downloading important purchases in advance reduces your dependence on an open-ended future service, but it cannot turn a digital entitlement into a perpetual contractual promise.
For the direct question—whether you can redownload a PS3 or PS Vita game or DLC after the Store closes—the answer is yes when it was purchased before your region’s closure. New purchases stop, timing varies by market, and PSP follows its own Download List rule.
