Yes. Street Fighter 6 supports two people playing against each other on one device through the local Versus option in Fighting Ground. Connect two compatible controllers, open Fighting Ground from the main menu, select Versus, assign one controller to each player, choose fighters and a stage, and start the match.
You do not need Battle Hub, an internet connection, or a Capcom ID for the basic couch-versus match. Those requirements apply to online-only features. The exact menu wording and controller-pairing process can vary between the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 editions.

What local multiplayer in Street Fighter 6 includes
Street Fighter 6 separates same-device play from its online social features. The traditional fighting modes are grouped under Fighting Ground, which includes local versus battles as well as other single-player and training activities. Its local Versus mode lets one person fight another human player on the same console or computer.
That is different from Battle Hub. Battle Hub is an online space for meeting other players and fighting over the internet. You do not enter Battle Hub to arrange a basic match on the sofa. Choosing Fighting Ground keeps the session on the local device and avoids the online lobby.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning visuals and an all new battle system depicts the world of Street Fighter with unprecedented detail.
- For the first time ever, SF6 provides an ever evolving immersive storytelling experience that gives power to the player to create their own World Warrior and truly engage in the Street Fighter Universe
- SF6 provides the gold standard fighting experience for both casual and battle-tested pros can enjoy for years to come.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions. DLC content may not work unless using an EU Playstation account as stated this is an EU Import Region Free Version
Capcom describes Fighting Ground as the traditional fighting-game portion of Street Fighter 6. Its Versus documentation says a player can fight either the CPU or another human player. Together, those descriptions establish the local two-person option rather than merely a training mode with a second spectator.
What you need before starting
One supported edition
Capcom announced versions for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A separate official manual for the Switch 2 edition also documents Versus play against another human and support for Joy-Con controllers. Use the instructions and controller guidance for the edition you own because labels and input compatibility are not identical across platforms.
Two compatible input devices
Each fighter needs a separate controller or other supported input device. A single gamepad cannot normally serve as both players at once. Connect or pair both devices with the same console before entering the local Versus screen. On Switch 2, the manual specifically documents Joy-Con support; on other platforms, use controllers recognized by that platform and edition.

Local Versus is a mode inside the game, not a separate download or Battle Hub activity. Start the installed game and remain at the main menu. If you see online-lobby choices first, return to the mode-selection screen and look for Fighting Ground.
How to start a two-player couch match
- Connect both controllers. Pair or plug in two compatible devices to the same console. Confirm that each device is assigned to the console rather than connected to a different system.
- Launch Street Fighter 6. Wait until the main menu appears. If the game asks for an online sign-in, you can continue to the local modes instead of entering Battle Hub.
- Open Fighting Ground. Select the menu area that contains the traditional fighting modes.
- Choose Versus. Select the local Versus choice, not Battle Hub or an online match option. Menu wording can differ by platform or language, but the relevant label contains Versus or local versus.
- Assign the players. Move each controller on the character-select or side-selection screen. The interface should show one input as Player 1 and the other as Player 2. If both inputs control the same side, pause and verify the console’s controller assignments before continuing.
- Select characters and a stage. Each player chooses a fighter, then select the arena and any available match settings presented by the edition.
- Start the fight. Confirm the selections. The match loads locally without requiring a Battle Hub room.
If a platform presents several Fighting Ground variants, select the one explicitly labeled Versus or local versus. Do not infer that a Battle Hub training area is the same feature: Battle Hub is the online component.

| Feature | Fighting Ground: local Versus | Battle Hub |
|---|---|---|
| Where the match takes place | On one console or computer with both players present | In an online social space where players meet over the internet |
| Controllers or systems | Two compatible input devices connected to the same device | Players use their own online-connected systems or accounts |
| Internet connection | Not required for the basic local match | Required for online-only content |
| Capcom ID | Not needed for the basic local-versus concept | Required for online-only content according to the PlayStation listing |
| Best use | Couch play, quick local competition and offline practice against a friend | Meeting and fighting people through online services |
The PlayStation Store listing warns that certain elements are online-only and require an internet connection, with a Capcom ID required for that online-only content. That warning does not turn local Versus into an online mode. If your goal is simply two people fighting on the same device, start in Fighting Ground.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo you need PS Plus, Xbox online service or a Capcom ID?
For the basic local Versus match, the essential requirements are the installed game and two compatible controllers. The local fight itself does not use Battle Hub, so an internet connection and Capcom ID are not prerequisites for that couch session.
Online subscriptions and account requirements are separate questions. Services required by a platform for internet multiplayer can apply when you use online features, while Street Fighter 6 identifies internet access and a Capcom ID as requirements for online-only content. They are not part of the local-versus setup described above. If the game displays a sign-in prompt while you are trying to enter Battle Hub, back out and choose Fighting Ground instead.
Choosing controls for two players
Classic controls
Classic is the traditional control layout. It is the natural choice when both players already know conventional fighting-game inputs or want the full traditional command structure. Classic has no stated special online or local restriction in Fighting Ground.
Modern controls
Modern simplifies the way many attacks and special moves are accessed. It remains available throughout Fighting Ground, so a newer player can use Modern while an experienced friend uses Classic. The two players do not have to select the same control type.

Dynamic controls
Capcom describes Dynamic Controls as suitable when friends and family visit for quick, casual games. That makes Dynamic a practical starting point for a short couch session or for someone unfamiliar with fighting games. Dynamic is limited to offline play in certain Fighting Ground modes, so it is not a universal choice for online activities. Classic and Modern remain available throughout Fighting Ground.
Rank #3
- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
For a mixed-skill group, let each person choose the control type that matches their experience. If Dynamic is unavailable in a particular Fighting Ground activity, switch that player to Modern or Classic rather than moving to Battle Hub.
Platform notes
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
The PlayStation Store listing identifies separate PS5 and PS4 editions. Connect two controllers to the same PlayStation, open Fighting Ground and select Versus. The listing’s online-only warning concerns connected features; it does not change the local path. If the screen asks for online setup, look for a way to continue to the offline menus and avoid Battle Hub.
Xbox Series X|S
Capcom announced Xbox Series X|S versions. Use two controllers recognized by the same Xbox, then follow the common Fighting Ground, Versus and character-selection sequence. The precise wording can differ after an update or between console-language settings.

PC
The PC version is also part of Capcom’s announced lineup. A PC couch match still depends on the game recognizing two separate compatible input devices. Connect both before launching or before entering Versus, and check the platform’s controller assignment screen if one device does not appear as Player 2.
Switch 2
The official Switch 2 manual explicitly describes battling the CPU or another human player and documents Joy-Con support. Pair the two Joy-Con or other supported inputs to the same Switch 2, enter Versus and assign each player. Because this is a separate edition, use its manual when the on-screen labels differ from the PlayStation, Xbox or PC instructions.

The game only shows one player
- Return to the console’s controller settings and confirm that both devices are connected to the same system.
- Wake or reconnect the second controller, then return to Fighting Ground and Versus.
- Check whether the platform has assigned both devices to one user or one side. Reassign them if the system offers that option.
- Restart the game after both controllers are recognized. Some editions detect a second input more reliably when it is connected before the mode loads.
You cannot find local Versus
- Leave Battle Hub and return to the main menu.
- Open Fighting Ground rather than an online or social category.
- Look for a menu item named Versus. Translations and platform-specific labels can vary.
- Consult the manual for your exact edition if Fighting Ground contains multiple variants or the label is not immediately visible.
A sign-in or connection message appears
That message usually indicates that you entered an online-only feature. Local Versus is the correct destination for an offline two-person fight. Return to the mode menu, select Fighting Ground and avoid Battle Hub. Internet and Capcom ID requirements described by the PlayStation listing apply to online-only content.
Rank #4
One player wants simpler controls
Open the control-type selection for that player and try Dynamic for a quick offline match. If the chosen Fighting Ground mode restricts Dynamic, use Modern instead. The other player can continue with Classic or Modern; both players do not need matching control settings.
Practical setup choices for a smoother couch session
Connect controllers before choosing the mode
Doing this first makes it easier to identify Player 1 and Player 2 and avoids returning to the menu after character selection has begun. It also exposes compatibility problems before your friend has chosen a fighter.
Use the least restrictive mode
For an immediate head-to-head game, select local Versus in Fighting Ground. Battle Hub adds online requirements and is unnecessary when both people are in the same room.
Match controls to experience
Dynamic is aimed at quick, casual play when friends or family are visiting. Modern can provide a middle ground for a new player, while Classic suits someone who wants the traditional layout. Explain the choice before the character screen so neither player mistakes a different control scheme for a controller fault.
Keep the edition in mind
The core path is consistent, but platform menus, controller pairing and available input devices can differ. If a button name or screen does not match these steps, follow the manual for that edition rather than assuming local play has been removed.
What local play does not provide
Local Versus is a same-device match, not a way to place two people in separate online locations. It does not require Battle Hub and does not substitute for online matchmaking. Conversely, entering Battle Hub does not become a local match merely because two people are sitting next to the same console; it remains an online space with its own connection and account requirements.
Official materials establish the mode and controller support, but they do not provide a universal controller-pairing sequence for every language, platform revision or accessory. That is why the reliable instructions are to connect two recognized devices, enter Fighting Ground and select Versus, then use the platform-specific manual when the screen differs.
