No—Resident Evil 2 Remake has no officially listed co-op mode on Steam. The 2019 remake is classified as Single-player. Steam marks it Verified for Steam Deck, but that rating only confirms handheld compatibility; it does not add a second player. Steam lists Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV, yet does not list Remote Play Together for this game.
Using another PC, buying a second controller, or streaming the game to another screen therefore does not create an officially supported two-player session. Unofficial community modifications are a separate, unverified possibility and are not a dependable answer to the co-op question.
The official answer: Resident Evil 2 Remake is single-player
CAPCOM’s Resident Evil 2 remake released on Steam on January 24, 2019. The Steam store classification for that PC version is Single-player. That is the relevant feature label when deciding whether two people can control characters together, share a campaign, or connect separate computers through a built-in multiplayer mode.
Because the store page does not advertise multiplayer, there is no official co-op campaign, versus mode, split-screen mode, or online two-player mode to enable. This applies whether the game is installed on a desktop PC, a gaming laptop, or a Steam Deck running the Steam version.

The absence of a listed multiplayer feature is different from a game that has co-op but requires a particular menu, controller, or networking setting. There is no official Steam setting that turns this single-player listing into co-op.
What Steam Deck Verified actually means
Steam’s Verified badge for Resident Evil 2 concerns compatibility with the handheld. It indicates that the game meets Steam’s criteria for running acceptably on Steam Deck, including factors such as control support, display behavior, and the ability to use the game without a desktop operating system. It is not a player-count rating.
A Verified game can still be entirely single-player. In this case, the badge answers the question “Will the Steam version run on this handheld?” It does not answer “Can two people play at once?” The game’s player count remains the one shown in its store features: single-player.

What you can do on one Steam Deck
- Install the Steam version and play the campaign locally on the Deck.
- Use a compatible display or television for a larger-screen session.
- Use supported controls for one person at a time.
None of those uses adds a second playable character or a second campaign participant. Connecting an additional gamepad may give you another input device, but it does not change the game’s advertised player count.
Does another PC make co-op possible?
No. A second computer can run its own copy of a single-player game, but it cannot supply a network mode that the game itself does not provide. Resident Evil 2 Remake’s Steam listing does not show online multiplayer, LAN play, or a two-PC co-op feature.

For an official two-player PC game, the store page would normally identify a multiplayer or co-op capability and provide an associated way to invite or connect players. Resident Evil 2’s listing instead identifies it as single-player. Launching the game on two PCs would produce two independent sessions, not a shared story or synchronized inventory.
What happens if two people own the game?
Each owner can play a separate single-player campaign on their own computer. They cannot join those campaigns through a feature listed by Steam for this title. A second license can be useful if two people want to play separately, but it is not a co-op purchase.
Remote Play on Tablet or TV is not Remote Play Together
Steam lists Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV for Resident Evil 2. Those labels describe ways to stream or display a game session on another supported screen. They do not state that a second person can join as a player.
Remote Play Together is a different Steam feature. When a game supports it, the store page normally identifies that capability, allowing a host to invite another person into a supported local-multiplayer session over the internet. Resident Evil 2’s listing does not include Remote Play Together.

The important distinction is between moving the same single-player session to another screen and adding another person to the game. Tablet and TV streaming address the first use; co-op requires the second.

How to check the listing before you buy or install
If you are checking a future edition, a different store region, or another platform, use the product page for that exact version. On Steam, open the Resident Evil 2 store page and review the feature labels near the title and purchase section.

- Look for the player-mode label. The Steam listing identifies this game as Single-player.
- Review the Remote Play entries separately. Tablet and TV entries are present; Remote Play Together is not shown.
- Check the Steam Deck compatibility badge if your concern is handheld installation. Treat Verified as a compatibility statement, not a multiplayer statement.
- Use the same checks for any store page or platform edition you are considering, because a feature shown for one version should not be assumed for another.
This five-step check prevents a common mistake: seeing a Remote Play label or a Deck badge and interpreting it as evidence of co-op.
What two people can realistically do
Take turns on one campaign
The straightforward supported arrangement is one person playing while the other watches and takes a turn when you choose. You can pass the controller during exploration, puzzles, or combat, but the game remains one player’s session. Progress, inventory, saves, and decisions belong to that single campaign.
Display one session on a larger screen
Remote Play on TV or Tablet can be useful when the goal is to view the same session away from the PC or Deck screen. It can make a single-player playthrough more comfortable for two people watching, but it does not create independent controls for a second participant.
Play separately
Two people can each play their own single-player run on separate PCs or handhelds. This supports parallel progress or comparing routes, but the sessions are not connected and one player cannot join the other’s save.

Why adding hardware does not solve the problem
A second controller, a USB hub, a dock, a television, or another PC can change how you access the game. None of those accessories adds code for networking, split-screen rendering, shared input, or a second save slot in the game mode.
The same applies to purchasing a second copy. Ownership permits another independent installation; it does not unlock a multiplayer menu that is absent from the Steam listing. Buy hardware or another license only for the separate use you actually want, such as a larger display or two independent campaigns.
What about unofficial co-op mods?
Community modifications are a separate subject from the official Steam feature set. The Steam listing does not verify their existence, compatibility, security, stability, or ability to complete the campaign. A mod may require a particular game build, third-party files, configuration changes, or matching versions, and an update could break it.
Because those conditions are not established by the official listing, an unofficial modification should not be presented as a guaranteed solution. Installing unknown files can also create account, save-data, or malware risks. If you investigate a community project independently, verify its source, compatibility instructions, backup requirements, and current status before changing a working installation.
Common misunderstandings
“Verified” means two controllers will work
Verified refers to the experience of running the game on Steam Deck. It does not promise support for two controllers, local multiplayer, or any particular player count.

“Remote Play” means a friend can join
Steam uses several Remote Play labels. Tablet and TV entries indicate remote display or streaming destinations. The separate Remote Play Together feature is the one associated with inviting another player into supported local multiplayer, and it is not listed here.
Two PCs imply online multiplayer
Two machines can participate together only when the game supplies a network mode. Resident Evil 2’s Steam feature list does not advertise one, so two installations remain separate single-player sessions.
A dock or television changes the mode
External displays can improve visibility and comfort, but they do not alter the game’s player count. A larger screen is still showing one session.

- You want to know whether the Steam Deck version runs: Yes, Steam marks the game Verified.
- You want two people controlling the campaign together: No officially listed route exists.
- You want to watch or move one session to another screen: Steam lists Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV.
- You want to invite a friend through Steam Remote Play Together: That feature is not listed for Resident Evil 2.
- You want two separate playthroughs: Each person can run an individual single-player session on their own compatible device.
- You are considering a community workaround: Treat it as unofficial and unverified rather than as a supported Steam feature.
For the exact question—co-op on a Steam Deck or another PC—the reliable expectation is a single-player game that can run on Steam Deck and can be streamed to listed tablet or TV destinations, but cannot officially be joined by a second player.
