No—not today. As of 18 October 2026, neither Paper Perjury nor Paper Perjury 2: Shadow of Justice has a released Nintendo Switch version that you can install and play offline. Paper Perjury is announced for Switch and Switch 2 in 2027; Shadow of Justice is announced for 2028, with current coverage describing it as Switch 2-only. The developers have not yet published title-specific information about offline play, first-launch authentication or recurring internet checks.
What you can and cannot play right now
The practical answer depends on the platform you own. A current price listing shows Paper Perjury for Steam, not as a Nintendo eShop or cartridge purchase. There is therefore no Switch download, cartridge or cloud edition to test offline at present. The sequel, Paper Perjury 2: Shadow of Justice, is also a future release rather than a game you can install on a Switch today.
That means a Switch owner cannot legally buy either title now, download it before a trip and expect it to work without connectivity. Any page offering a supposed current Switch copy should be treated cautiously until it matches an official Nintendo listing or an announcement from Paper Cat Games.

The 2027 and 2028 dates are announced release windows, not guaranteed launch dates. The October 2026 announcement coverage places the first game on both Switch generations and the sequel in 2028, while separate interview coverage leaves the sequel’s final console details to be confirmed after its Steam release. Check the final store page rather than assuming that a Switch 2 announcement also includes the original Switch.

Why an announced port does not answer the offline question
A game can be sold in several technically different ways on Nintendo hardware. A native download installs game data on the console or microSD card. A cartridge supplies most or all of that data locally. A cloud version displays a stream from a remote server. These options can have very different connectivity requirements even when the title and price look similar in the store.
Native download or cartridge
A locally installed game is the most promising arrangement for airplane or no-signal use, but “downloaded” does not automatically mean “works forever offline.” Publishers can require an account check on first launch, a license validation after installation, or internet access for a particular feature. Nintendo’s eventual product page is the authoritative place to look for an online-feature label, supported play modes and any internet-required notice.
Cloud version
Nintendo’s general cloud-games guidance says, “The cloud version requires a stable connection to high-speed internet to play.” A cloud edition is therefore not suitable for a flight, underground train or other situation without a reliable connection. That general rule does not establish that either Paper Perjury title will be cloud-based; no such designation has been published for these games.
Online features versus online play
A single-player game may still use the internet for account verification, cloud saves, news, downloadable updates or other optional services. Conversely, a game can list online functionality while allowing its main campaign to run offline. Until the developer states the policy for these specific releases, it is not safe to infer either outcome from the fact that the games are narrative titles or from how the Steam editions operate.

What is known about each game’s offline availability
Paper Perjury
- There is no released Switch edition as of 18 October 2026.
- The announced Nintendo port targets both Switch and Switch 2 in 2027.
- No physical US edition was confirmed in the October 2026 announcement coverage.
- No title-specific statement says whether the port will be a native download, cartridge, cloud version or a combination.
- No first-launch, recurring authentication or guaranteed offline-play policy has been published.
So the correct buying decision is to wait for the Nintendo listing and release documentation. The 2027 announcement establishes intended platforms, not the conditions under which the finished port will run without Wi-Fi.
Paper Perjury 2: Shadow of Justice
- The sequel is announced for 2028, so there is no Switch installation available now.
- Current announcement coverage describes it as planned for Switch 2 only.
- An interview describes console plans as following the Steam release, so the final console list and timing remain subject to confirmation.
- No physical edition, cloud designation or offline policy has been announced.
Do not assume that a Switch 2 listing will run on the original Switch, or that a sequel released after the first game will use the same delivery format. Those are separate technical and commercial decisions.
Can you play either game on a flight?
Not based on the information available today. There is no released Switch build to download and test, and no published promise that either title will pass an initial launch without an internet connection. A future native version might be suitable for a flight after any required setup has been completed, but that remains a possibility rather than a confirmed feature.

- Does the product run natively on the console, or is it labeled a cloud version?
- Is internet access required for the first launch, license check or account linking?
- After installation, can the game start and save while the console is in Airplane Mode?
- Are any chapters, language packs or updates unavailable without a connection?
- Does the listing identify the original Switch, Switch 2 or both?
For a cloud version, Nintendo’s requirement for a stable, high-speed connection makes an offline flight scenario impractical. For a native release, the answer depends on the publisher’s own authentication and update design.
Do you need Nintendo Switch Online?
There is no published requirement for either title because neither has a released Switch product page. Nintendo Switch Online is generally associated with online multiplayer and other network services; it is not automatically the same thing as an internet connection needed to perform a one-time license check. The eventual store listing should identify whether a subscription is required for any feature.
For a primarily single-player game, a subscription may be unnecessary, but that is an expectation, not confirmation for these ports. Look for the listing’s supported play modes, player count and online-features fields. If those fields show no network mode and the publisher documents offline startup, you would have a stronger basis for playing without a subscription. If a feature is marked as requiring Nintendo Switch Online, that requirement may apply only to that feature rather than to the entire campaign.

How to verify the listing before buying
- Open the official Nintendo product page. Confirm that the title is listed for the console you own: original Switch, Switch 2 or both.
- Check the release date and edition. Treat 2027 and 2028 as windows until Nintendo and Paper Cat Games publish a specific date.
- Read the delivery format. Distinguish a standard digital download or cartridge from a cloud version. Cloud wording is decisive for offline use.
- Inspect the online-information fields. Review supported modes, player count, online features and any “internet required” or first-launch note.
- Look for publisher instructions. Release notes or a support article may explain account linking, license validation, updates and whether the game can start in Airplane Mode.
- Verify physical availability separately. No US physical copy was confirmed for Paper Perjury when the port was announced. Do not treat a retailer placeholder as proof that a cartridge exists.
- Save the listing details. If you plan to travel, install the game, apply updates and complete any required sign-in while online, then test startup with the console disconnected before your trip.

Common assumptions that could lead to a bad purchase
“The Steam version works offline, so the Switch port will too.”
Different storefronts and console certification rules can use different licensing systems. Steam behavior cannot establish Nintendo startup requirements.
“A Switch announcement means it is already downloadable.”
The announcements concern future ports. A planned platform is not the same as a live eShop listing, pre-load or finished build.
“Switch 2 games also work on the original Switch.”
Compatibility must be stated for each title. Current coverage describes the sequel as Switch 2-only, while the first game is the one explicitly announced for both generations.

“A retailer listing proves a cartridge exists.”
Retailers sometimes create placeholders before an edition is formally announced. For Paper Perjury, announcement coverage specifically reported no word on a US physical copy at that time.
What to expect as launch approaches
The most useful evidence will be the official Nintendo listing and Paper Cat Games’ release documentation, not an early store placeholder or a forum assumption. Those sources should settle the Switch-generation support, native-versus-cloud format, physical availability, first-launch authentication and any subscription requirement.
Until those details appear, the defensible conclusion is limited but clear: neither game can be played offline on Switch today because neither has launched there, and no future offline guarantee has been published. If you need a game for a no-internet trip, choose a currently released native title whose own listing and support information explicitly permit offline startup rather than buying either upcoming port on speculation.
