It is not yet confirmed whether No Man’s Sky will work offline on iPhone. As of October 13, 2026, the native iPhone app had not been released. Hello Games announced it for October 28, while the US App Store listed October 29 as the expected date. Neither official source says whether single-player can launch and continue with Wi-Fi and cellular data turned off.
Does No Man’s Sky on iPhone need internet?
The answer is unresolved for the upcoming iOS version. Hello Games’ general End User Licence Agreement says, “An internet connection is required for your use of the Game and/or certain content or functionality of the Game.” That broad wording does not identify which features need a connection, and it is not specific to iPhone. The iOS announcement also does not explain offline play.
Because the app had not launched by October 13, 2026, there was no official post-release confirmation that would settle whether the iPhone game starts and sustains single-player play in airplane mode. Do not assume that it will work offline based on how No Man’s Sky behaves on another platform.
Can you play it on a plane?
Not with confidence based on the available official information. A downloaded, locally rendered game can still require an internet connection for startup, account checks, or particular features; the iOS sources do not specify whether No Man’s Sky has such requirements or whether its single-player mode works without a network.

If you plan to play during a flight, wait for the iOS release and test the installed game with both Wi-Fi and cellular data disabled before relying on it. A successful test should include launching the app and continuing in single-player, not simply opening the title screen. Follow your airline’s rules for using a phone and wireless radios.
How the iPhone version compares with streaming
The native iOS app is the only route in these options that might work offline: the game would be installed on the iPhone, but offline behavior remains unconfirmed. Xbox cloud gaming is a streaming option, not an offline workaround.

Xbox lists No Man’s Sky for cloud gaming. The Xbox cloud gaming service streams games, so a stable connection is necessary; it does not provide a locally installed offline iPhone copy.
Release date and iPhone requirements
At the time of the official announcements reviewed on October 13, 2026, the game was forthcoming. Hello Games announced an October 28, 2026 release, while the US App Store showed October 29 as the expected date. Check the current listing for availability in your region rather than treating either date as confirmation that the game is already downloadable.

Hello Games summarizes support as iPhone 11 and above. The US App Store listing gives a requirement of iOS 26.0 or later and an A12 Bionic chip or later, and names iPhone XS/XR and newer devices. Those descriptions do not align perfectly in apparent scope, so use the compatibility result for your exact phone on the US App Store listing or your local store instead of inferring eligibility from a model name.
The US listing showed a 3.8 GB app size and described the app as free to try, with a $19.99 full-game unlock at the time it was accessed on October 13, 2026. These are US figures and may change; check your local store for current price and size.

What the iPhone version includes
Hello Games describes the iOS release as the full universe, including over forty major updates. It supports touch controls, controllers, and casting to a TV; mouse and keyboard support is available on iPad. A controller is optional, not a way to enable offline play.

The developer also says multiplayer is not supported on iOS. That is a limitation on multiplayer, not proof that single-player works offline. Planetary Settlements are supported on iPhone 15 Pro and above, according to the announcement.
