Yes. MONOPOLY GO! is free to download and play on iPhone, iPad and Android. You can roll the normal dice you earn, build landmarks, collect properties, join events and interact with friends without buying anything. Purchases are optional: they can add virtual currency, replenish items, unlock enhancements or provide access to special events, but they are not required to open the app or continue playing.
The trade-off is pace and predictability. A player who spends nothing depends on earned dice, daily rewards, event milestones and occasional promotions. A paying player can usually obtain more rolls or resources immediately. The available offers, prices and event rules change, so neither free rewards nor paid bundles should be treated as permanent.
What “free to play” means in MONOPOLY GO!
Scopely’s mobile game uses a free-to-play model. There is no purchase required to download the app, start a board or take ordinary turns. The core loop is rolling dice, moving around the board, collecting MONOPOLY money, buying properties and upgrading landmarks. The launch description also includes familiar Monopoly actions such as chance cards and jail, plus social play with other Tycoons.

What a no-spend player can do
- Use earned dice to advance through boards and collect in-game money.
- Build and upgrade landmarks as the board requires.
- Take part in live events, tournaments and sticker albums when they are available.
- Play with friends and use social features offered by the current version.
- Claim ordinary daily rewards and other free milestones.
Event names, schedules, sticker sets and prize tracks are updated over time. A reward shown in one version or region may not appear in another, so treat the in-game event panel as the current authority.
What costs money?
Optional in-app purchases are sold through the platform store. Scopely says purchases may replenish items, unlock enhancements or grant entry to special in-game events. Its purchase guidance lists amounts from $0.99 to $99.99 in the “Scopely Explore, 2026” material. That is a documented range, not a guaranteed permanent catalog: bundles can differ by iOS or Android, country, account and promotion. Check the price displayed in your own store before confirming.
| Question | No-spend route | Paid route |
|---|---|---|
| Access to the app | Free download and play | No purchase needed; spending is optional |
| Dice and turns | Earned rolls, timed refills, daily rewards and event prizes | Bundles or offers can provide additional virtual currency or rolls |
| Progress speed | Limited by the rolls and milestones available to the account | Extra resources can allow more attempts in a shorter period |
| Events and albums | Free entry points exist, but requirements and prizes vary | Some offers may unlock enhancements or special-event access |
| Price certainty | Free rewards have no monetary charge but may expire or be limited | Current price is shown at checkout; offers can change by platform, region and account |
Payments are processed by Apple on iOS and Google on Android. A charge for a bundle is not a subscription by default; read the purchase confirmation and your platform’s receipt to see exactly what was bought.

How to get dice and rewards without paying
Daily bonuses
Claim the ordinary daily reward whenever it appears. PC Gamer’s dated guide identifies daily bonuses as a source of extra dice. The exact amount, reset time and presentation can change, so open the game’s reward or shop screens rather than relying on an old screenshot.

Normal play and limited free currency
Scopely’s guidance says players can earn limited amounts of virtual in-game currency for free. Dice and other resources arrive through regular play, board progress and free reward tracks. “Limited” matters: the game can provide enough to keep playing, but the supply is constrained by the current economy and regeneration rules.
Events and tournaments
Apple documents recurring events, tournaments, sticker albums and rewards such as bonus money, stickers and build upgrades. Join the events whose free milestones fit your schedule. Each event has its own scoring method, time limit and prize ladder; completing one event does not guarantee the same reward in the next.
Sticker albums
Albums turn duplicate stickers and event rewards into collection milestones. They are a free feature, but completing an album depends on which stickers you receive, how long the album remains open and the trading or reward rules in that version. Do not assume every album can always be completed without spending.

Friend invitations and social rewards
PC Gamer’s guide also identifies inviting friends as an extra dice source. The invitation must satisfy the game’s current qualification rules, which can include installing the app or reaching a particular point in onboarding. The reward and eligibility text shown in the invitation screen controls the offer.

Promotional dice links
Promotional links can add free rolls, but they are temporary promotions rather than a dependable daily allowance. The cited guide says the Album feature generally requires level 15 before links can be redeemed, each link is normally redeemable once per account, and links may expire.
- Use links from a reputable, current source and inspect the destination before signing in.
- Check whether your account has reached the required level, commonly level 15 for the Album feature.
- Expect one redemption per account, not one redemption per device or per click.
- Do not treat an expired link or a link from an old event as evidence that the game has removed free rewards.
Can you keep progressing and “win” without paying?
You can progress in the practical access sense: the app remains playable, and free rolls, currency and event rewards continue to be offered. However, progress is governed by dice availability, event rules and chance. Buying a bundle can provide more attempts or shorten a wait, while a no-spend player may need to pause until rolls regenerate or a new reward becomes available.
There is no source establishing a universal paywall or a guaranteed completion rate for every board, sticker album or event. Therefore, a precise promise such as “you can finish every album for free” would be misleading. A more accurate expectation is that free play supports ongoing participation, while completion of time-limited objectives may be slower, less predictable or dependent on favorable drops.

- Open the game daily. Claim the ordinary daily bonus before playing other turns.
- Check the event panel. Choose events and tournaments whose milestones are realistic during their remaining time.
- Spend rolls deliberately. If an event rewards a particular board action, time your play for that event instead of using every roll immediately.
- Collect album and milestone prizes. Open the sticker and reward screens after an event so earned items are not overlooked.
- Use social opportunities. Add friends or invite eligible players only when the in-game prompt explains the reward and requirements.
- Verify promotional links. Confirm the expiry date, level requirement and one-time redemption rule before attempting a link.
- Stop at the free boundary. If an offer asks for payment, close it unless you have intentionally chosen to spend.
This routine cannot guarantee a particular board position or album result. It does ensure that a free player collects the recurring sources the game makes available instead of missing time-limited claims.

Why free play can feel slower
Dice are the pacing mechanism. With only earned rolls, your number of board actions is limited by regeneration, daily bonuses and event prizes. A bundle can add resources immediately, allowing additional rolls or attempts during the same event window. That changes the pace, not the basic rules of the board.
Reward reliability also differs. Daily rewards are expected parts of the current game loop, while promotional links can expire and event prizes disappear when an event ends. A no-spend strategy therefore rewards consistency: logging in regularly is more useful than waiting for one large, guaranteed giveaway.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How large is the spending economy?
Scopely reported more than $6 billion in lifetime in-app-purchase revenue for MONOPOLY GO! in 2025, citing Sensor Tower Intelligence estimates. The figure covers estimated iOS and Google Play in-app purchases and excludes advertising and direct-to-consumer revenue. It describes the size of the overall business, not an amount an individual player must pay.
The same figure should not be read as proof that free players are blocked. The game can support a large spending economy while still allowing no-cost access; spenders generally buy convenience, additional attempts or faster resource availability.

How to prevent accidental purchases
Because transactions run through Apple or Google, use the purchase controls on the device account that owns the game. Scopely documents parental approval and purchase restrictions for both iOS and Android.
- Require a password, passcode or biometric confirmation for every store purchase.
- Use the platform’s family or parental-approval setting if a child uses the device.
- Do not share the store account password with the game player.
- Review purchase receipts and transaction history so an unexpected bundle is identified quickly.
These controls do not remove paid offers from the game; they add a confirmation step before money can leave the platform account.
Do you need the MONOPOLY GO! board game?
No. Hasbro sells a separate physical MONOPOLY GO! board game for ages 8 and up, for two to four players. The documented package includes four double-sided boards, dice, tokens, landmark blocks and a code for one free digital token in the app. The instructions list the code’s documented expiry as December 31, 2025. Because that date has passed, confirm the packaging and current redemption terms before relying on the code.
The tabletop product is a screen-free companion. Buying it is not a requirement for downloading, playing or progressing in the mobile app, and its token code should not be counted as a continuing free-dice source.
What about promotional partnerships?
Scopely announced a McDonald’s MONOPOLY campaign scheduled for October 6 through November 1, with MONOPOLY GO! dice-roll prizes and themed in-game items. That was a dated, geography-dependent promotion, not a standing reward channel. Similar campaigns can have country, participation and expiry rules, so check the terms displayed for your location and the dates of the specific promotion.
Free play versus spending: the decision points
| If your priority is… | Best approach | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Paying nothing | Use daily rewards, free event milestones, social rewards and valid promotions | Ongoing access with pauses when earned rolls run out |
| More attempts during a short event | Consider an optional bundle only after checking its contents and price | Faster or broader participation, but no guarantee of a specific outcome |
| Predictable household spending | Enable Apple or Google purchase approval and avoid impulse offers | Paid items require deliberate confirmation |
| Completing an album | Play consistently, trade or collect where the current rules allow, and monitor the deadline | Completion is not guaranteed for every album without spending |
If you are comfortable waiting for regeneration and accepting that some event goals may be missed, the free route is complete enough to play indefinitely. If you want more rolls at a particular moment, spending is available but remains optional and variable by account and platform.
