Yes—Heavy Metal Death Can is designed as a one-player survival-horror game and can be played offline. The PlayStation 5 listing explicitly says “Offline play enabled” and “1 player.” Steam and Xbox also classify it as single-player. No official store listing documents multiplayer, co-op, versus play or cross-play. Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves are available inside their own ecosystems, but cross-save between Steam, Xbox and PS5 is not documented.
That means you can buy the game for a solo campaign without planning around an online party. You should not buy one platform expecting to join friends on another, or assuming that a save from Steam will appear automatically on Xbox or PS5.

Can you play Heavy Metal Death Can offline?
PlayStation 5 has an explicit offline designation
The PlayStation Store labels the PS5 version “Offline play enabled” and lists one player. It also says the game can be paused during gameplay or cinematics when playing offline. This is the clearest platform-specific confirmation that an internet connection is not required for the normal solo experience.
Steam and Xbox describe a solo campaign
Steam lists Heavy Metal Death Can as “Single-player” and includes Steam Cloud among its features. Xbox lists “Single player,” Xbox achievements, Xbox cloud saves and Xbox Play Anywhere. Neither listing advertises an online component that would require other players.
Those labels establish the intended one-player format, but they do not spell out every launcher requirement for going offline. Install the game and complete any platform account or license checks that your store requires before relying on an entirely disconnected setup. After that, the campaign itself is not presented as an online service or shared-world game.

Offline play does not create a local co-op mode. It means playing the solo game without an active multiplayer connection. It also does not make cloud synchronization possible while disconnected: a cloud save can synchronize only when the platform client reconnects and accepts the local save.

Is Heavy Metal Death Can multiplayer?
No multiplayer mode is documented in the current official listings. All three identify the game as single-player or one-player, and none lists online co-op, local co-op, competitive versus play, split-screen or a separate multiplayer menu.
The design description reinforces that reading. Heavy Metal Death Can is a retro-inspired survival-horror adventure aboard the fictional Swedish submarine HMS Domherren in an alternate-history late-1970s setting. The listed features include fixed camera angles, tank controls with modern options, limited ammunition, inventory management, survivors and a conspiracy around the Sludge outbreak. Those are campaign systems for one character rather than a team-based mode.
Because store features can change after launch, the precise editorial answer is that the game does not have a documented multiplayer mode in the current official listings. A later update could add a feature, but there is no supported co-op or versus option to plan for now.

Does it support cross-play?
Cross-play lets players on different platforms enter the same multiplayer session. Heavy Metal Death Can has no documented multiplayer session to join, and no official listing advertises cross-play. Steam, Xbox and PS5 players therefore cannot currently rely on playing together.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Buying the game on different platforms gives you separate ways to play the solo campaign. It does not turn those versions into a shared online lobby, and owning an Xbox copy does not let a Steam or PS5 player join it.
How cross-save and cloud saves work
Steam Cloud is a Steam feature
The Steam page lists Steam Cloud. That indicates Steam can store and synchronize supported save data for the Steam version through your Steam account. It does not state that the same save can be imported into an Xbox or PS5 installation.
Xbox cloud saves and Play Anywhere are Xbox features
The Xbox listing advertises Xbox cloud saves and Xbox Play Anywhere for the Xbox Series X|S, PC and handheld-device versions in that ecosystem. Play Anywhere identifies the Xbox-linked purchase family; the listing separately identifies cloud saves. The available metadata does not explain whether every save transfers between every Xbox device, so follow the Xbox account and save-sync behavior shown on your device.

The PlayStation listing confirms offline play and one-player support, but it does not promise progression sharing with Steam or Xbox. A PlayStation save should therefore be treated as a PS5 save unless the developer publishes a specific cross-progression policy.

The practical cross-save answer
Cross-save between Steam, Xbox and PS5 is undocumented. Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves are platform-specific labels, not proof of a universal save format or a shared developer account. Assume that progress remains tied to the platform where you made it. If you move from PC to console, plan to start a new campaign unless Krufs Productions explicitly announces cross-progression.
This distinction matters even if two versions contain the same story and levels. Cloud backup protects a save inside an ecosystem; cross-save moves progression between ecosystems. The listings confirm the former for Steam and Xbox, but not the latter among Steam, Xbox and PS5.
What each platform is best suited for
Choose Steam for a PC-first playthrough
The Steam edition is the PC release dated May 28, 2026. Its listing includes single-player, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. Select it if your library, achievements and backups are centered on Steam and you want the game attached to that account. Do not select it on the assumption that a later Xbox or PS5 purchase will inherit your save.

Choose Xbox for the Xbox-linked device family
The Xbox store lists the game for Xbox Series X|S, PC and handheld devices, with Xbox achievements, Xbox cloud saves and Xbox Play Anywhere. This is the most clearly defined choice if you move between Xbox-linked hardware and want one purchase family. The listing still does not describe a Steam or PlayStation save bridge.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.

Choose PS5 for confirmed offline play
The PS5 version is dated October 16, 2026 and explicitly marks offline play as enabled. It is a straightforward choice if you play on PS5 and want the store’s clearest offline confirmation, including the ability to pause during offline gameplay or cinematics.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the game’s single-player design affects offline play
Heavy Metal Death Can is set aboard HMS Domherren, a Swedish Cold War-era submarine in an alternate-history late-1970s world. The Sludge has transformed crew members into zombies, leaving the player to manage danger, resources and survivors while uncovering the surrounding conspiracy.
Fixed camera angles and tank controls create a deliberately old-school survival-horror rhythm. Modern control options are listed alongside those classic mechanics, but they do not add an online mode. Limited ammunition and inventory management are local campaign systems: they continue to matter when you are disconnected because the challenge comes from resource decisions, exploration and encounters rather than a live service.
Checks to make before an offline trip
- Install the correct edition. Confirm that you own the Steam, Xbox or PS5 version you intend to use. Xbox Play Anywhere applies to the Xbox ecosystem, not automatically to Steam or PlayStation.
- Launch it while connected. Complete the platform’s sign-in, entitlement and installation steps before disconnecting. This avoids discovering an account check or pending download after you have lost access to the internet.
- Update first. Apply the current game and platform updates while online. Offline play cannot fetch a required patch or repair a damaged installation.
- Create a test save. Start the campaign, save, close the game and relaunch with the device disconnected. This verifies that your local installation behaves as expected.
- Reconnect before changing platforms. If you use Steam Cloud or Xbox cloud saves, allow synchronization to finish before switching devices. A disconnected session cannot upload new progress.
Common misunderstandings and what to do
“Single-player” does not mean cross-save
Single-player describes how many people can play at once. It says nothing about whether a save file is portable. Use the separate cloud-save and Play Anywhere labels as account features, and treat the absence of a cross-progression statement as a warning not to assume transferability.
Cloud backup is not a second copy on another console
Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves can protect or synchronize supported data within their services. They do not establish compatibility with a different platform’s save system. A PS5 save is not documented as readable by Steam, and a Steam Cloud save is not documented as readable by Xbox.
A future feature could change the answer
The conclusions above describe the current official store metadata. If Krufs Productions adds multiplayer, cross-play or a formal cross-progression account system in a future update, its announcement and updated platform listings would supersede this snapshot. Until then, plan for offline solo play, no multiplayer sessions and platform-specific progression.
Bottom line
Heavy Metal Death Can is an offline-capable, one-player survival-horror game. PS5 explicitly confirms offline play; Steam and Xbox list the game as single-player and provide their own platform cloud features. No official listing documents multiplayer or cross-play, and no source promises cross-save between Steam, Xbox and PS5. Choose the ecosystem where you want to keep your achievements and progress, and assume that changing ecosystems means starting over unless the developer announces otherwise.
