No. As of October 18, 2026, Rockstar officially lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. The announced release is November 19, 2026. PS4 and Xbox One are not listed, and Rockstar has announced neither a PC version nor a PC release date. If you currently own a PS4 or Xbox One, you should plan on needing a supported current-generation console for the announced release.
The official platform answer
Rockstar’s current product information names two supported console families: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The product page says the game is “Coming November 19, 2026” and identifies PlayStation 5 as the platform on which it “Plays Best On.” Rockstar Support likewise says: “You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.” The official Xbox listing also identifies the game as an Xbox Series X|S title with the same November 19, 2026 release date.

That wording matters because platform lists are the clearest evidence of what Rockstar is selling and supporting. PS4, Xbox One and PC do not appear in the current official list. There is therefore no announced native PS4 edition, no announced native Xbox One edition, and no confirmed PC edition to buy or schedule around.

| PlayStation 5 | Supported | Rockstar lists PS5 for the announced release and labels it “Plays Best On.” |
| Xbox Series X|S | Supported | Rockstar lists Xbox Series X|S, and the official Xbox listing identifies the game as a Series X|S title. |
| PlayStation 4 | Not announced | The current platform list contains PS5, not PS4. No native PS4 version is available to plan for. |

| Windows PC | Unconfirmed | Rockstar’s checked product and support pages do not announce a PC version or date. |
Can you play GTA 6 on PS4?
There is no announced PS4 version. Rockstar’s official list names PlayStation 5, and its support article describes pre-orders for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A PS4 owner should not assume that a PS5 purchase, disc or download code will run on PS4. The announced product is tied to the newer console generation.
Do not confuse backward compatibility with forward compatibility. A PS5 can run many PS4 games, but that does not make a PS5-only release installable on PS4. Unless Rockstar publishes a separate PS4 edition, the older console cannot be treated as a supported target.
Will GTA 6 be on Xbox One?
Rockstar has not announced an Xbox One edition. Its current platform wording is Xbox Series X|S, and the official Xbox store listing identifies the game as a Series X|S game. Xbox One owners therefore should not buy a Series X|S product expecting it to run natively on an Xbox One.

The distinction between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S is especially important when reading retailer pages. Check the platform label before ordering. A listing that says Xbox Series X|S is for the current Xbox generation; it is not confirmation of Xbox One compatibility.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version or a PC release date on the official product and support pages checked for this article. That makes PC availability unconfirmed, not announced. Online claims about a PC launch window, a pre-order page or a technical requirement are not a substitute for an official Rockstar announcement.
If you intend to play on PC, the practical decision is to wait for a first-party platform announcement rather than purchase hardware or software based on a rumor. An official announcement should identify the storefront or launcher, supported operating systems and a release date. Until then, there is no confirmed PC product to pre-order.
What you need for the announced console release
A supported console
You need a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S for the platforms Rockstar has announced. A PS4 or Xbox One is not listed as a supported alternative. If you are deciding whether to upgrade, compare the complete cost of the console, the edition you intend to buy and any accessories you require rather than looking only at the game price.

Digital purchases and redemption are tied to platform accounts. Rockstar Support states that PlayStation codes must match the account region. Xbox codes are described as not region-locked in the same support article. This difference can affect imported physical packages, gifts and purchases made while traveling.

A way to download the game
The physical release contains a download code inside the box rather than a game disc. Redeeming that code and downloading the software requires an internet connection and the relevant console account. The support article describes the physical product as a format intended to support pre-loading, so the box should not be treated as an offline disc copy.
Enough storage and time to install
Rockstar’s published platform information does not state the final installation size in the material available here. Check the console store listing and the product packaging for the current storage requirement before release. Leave additional free space for the download and installation process, and avoid assuming that the code’s presence means the game is immediately playable without downloading.
Release, pre-loading and physical-format dates
The announced release date is November 19, 2026. Rockstar Support gives an earlier date for preparing the download: the physical version, which contains a download code, is available starting November 12 to support pre-loading. Digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading at local midnight on November 12, 2026.

| November 19, 2026 | Official release date. | Players on the supported console platforms. |
Because the physical package has no disc, inspect the product description before buying from a retailer. You are purchasing a box that supplies a code, not a disc that can be inserted and played independently. Keep the code and proof of purchase until redemption is complete.
PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: how to choose
Both current-generation console families are officially supported. Rockstar specifically markets PS5 as the platform on which the game “Plays Best On,” while Xbox Series X|S is also listed as an official platform. That statement is Rockstar’s positioning; it is not a published frame-rate, resolution or performance comparison.

Choose the console that fits the account, accessories and retailer you already use, unless Rockstar’s “Plays Best On” designation is your deciding priority. Do not infer a technical advantage that Rockstar has not published, such as a specific resolution or frame-rate difference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you play without buying a new console?
Not on a PS4 or Xbox One based on the announced platforms. Rockstar has not listed either older console, so there is no supported native installation path for them. A PS4 or Xbox One owner who wants to play the announced version should budget for a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

Cloud streaming, remote play and other workarounds should not be presented as confirmed availability. The official information cited here identifies console platforms and purchase formats, but does not announce a cloud edition or a supported method for running the game on older hardware. Treat any service claiming otherwise as unverified until Rockstar confirms it.
How to pre-order and prepare
- Confirm the platform label. Select the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S edition. Do not rely on a generic “console” heading that omits the generation.
- Check the account region. For PlayStation, make sure the code’s region matches the account that will redeem it. Xbox codes are described by Rockstar Support as not region-locked, but you should still review the retailer’s terms.
- Choose digital or physical carefully. The physical package contains a download code and no disc. Digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading at local midnight on November 12, 2026.
- Prepare the console. Install system updates, sign in to the account that will own the game and free enough storage for the download. Rockstar has not published the final storage figure in the platform information covered here, so verify it in the live store listing.
- Redeem the code or start the digital download. Keep the code private, enter it on the correct account and allow time for the download before the November 19 release.
- Keep your purchase records. Retain the receipt and packaging until the code is redeemed successfully and the product appears in your library.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Buying an older-generation listing: If a page says PS4 or Xbox One, it is not the officially announced GTA 6 product. Recheck the platform before paying.
- Assuming a disc is included: The physical package contains a download code, not a disc. You need internet access to redeem and download it.
- Using a mismatched PlayStation code: A PlayStation code must match the account region. Contact the retailer before opening an imported package if the region is unclear.
- Treating a rumor as a PC announcement: No PC version or date is confirmed in Rockstar’s current product and support information. Wait for first-party confirmation.
- Reading “Xbox” without checking the generation: Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One are different platform labels. The announced game is for Series X|S.
- Expecting published performance numbers: Rockstar’s “Plays Best On” wording does not provide a frame-rate or resolution specification. Do not use it as a substitute for a technical comparison.
What to verify after buying
On PlayStation, verify that the purchase is attached to the intended regional account before attempting redemption. On Xbox, confirm that the store page identifies Series X|S. For either console, check that the download begins from the correct account and that the product appears in the console’s library. If a code fails, stop retrying random accounts: a region mismatch, an already-redeemed code or a retailer error requires the seller or platform support to investigate.
Keep the original packaging for a physical purchase. Since the box contains the code rather than a disc, the printed code is the essential item needed to claim the game. A damaged or missing code cannot be replaced by inserting the package into a console.
