Grand Theft Auto VI is officially announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the release date and labels the PS5 version “Plays Best On.” There is no official PC version or PC release date, and PS4 and Xbox One are not included in the announced launch platforms.
If you want to play at launch, you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S console. Pre-loading is scheduled to begin at local midnight on November 12, 2026. The physical package contains a digital download code rather than a game disc.

The short answer: which systems run GTA VI?
Rockstar’s current launch information names two platform families: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only systems with an announced version of Grand Theft Auto VI as of October 18, 2026.
That means the launch edition is not announced for PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One. The absence of a platform listing is important: neither Rockstar’s product page nor its support information provides a PS4, Xbox One, or PC release for November 19. You should not buy an older console or a PC copy expecting it to work unless Rockstar publishes a separate announcement.

PlayStation 5: a confirmed version and Rockstar’s preferred platform
The PS5 version is a full, officially announced launch product. Rockstar’s store information explicitly identifies PlayStation 5 and uses the phrase “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” That wording makes PS5 the platform Rockstar highlights, but it does not state that other confirmed platforms are incomplete or unavailable. Xbox Series X|S remains an official launch option.
Any PS5 model that runs standard PS5 games is part of the announced platform family. The available material does not provide separate compatibility notes for individual PS5 hardware revisions, so there is no evidence here of a special requirement beyond owning a PS5-compatible system and the game license.
Xbox Series X|S: the other confirmed launch family
Xbox Series X|S is the second confirmed platform family. Microsoft’s listing and Rockstar’s information both identify the current-generation Series consoles rather than Xbox One. The “X|S” notation covers both Series X and Series S; the announcement does not limit the game to one of those two models.

Can you play GTA VI on PC?
There is no official PC version or PC release date in the launch and support information available on October 18, 2026. That is different from saying a PC edition can never exist; it means Rockstar has not announced one for the launch covered by these materials.
Do not rely on retailer placeholders, social-media rumors, unofficial system requirements, or speculative release windows when deciding whether to buy the game for a computer. A PC release would need an official announcement with a supported storefront and requirements. Until then, a computer is not a confirmed way to play GTA VI.

What PC players should do now

Will GTA VI run on Xbox One?
Xbox One is also absent from the announced platform list. Microsoft’s listing identifies Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar’s information does not add Xbox One. The launch version should therefore be treated as unsupported on Xbox One.
Backward compatibility works in the direction a publisher supports. An Xbox One can run certain older Xbox games, but that does not make a new Series X|S title run on Xbox One. You need an Xbox Series X or Series S for the confirmed Xbox release.
Release date and pre-loading schedule
The announced release date is November 19, 2026. Rockstar’s support information says pre-loading starts at local midnight on November 12, 2026, one week before release. “Local midnight” means the start time is tied to the player’s regional store or console location rather than one universal worldwide clock.
Pre-loading lets a supported console download the game before launch, but it does not change platform compatibility. A PS4 or Xbox One cannot pre-load a version that has not been announced for that hardware. Likewise, pre-loading does not establish a PC edition.

Edition prices and where the game is sold
Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 release lists two editions in the United States:

Those prices are the figures in that U.S. press release, not a guarantee of the final price in every country. Currency conversion, taxes, local pricing, retailer policies, and later promotions can change what a buyer pays. The cited release says the game will be sold through PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store, and retailers worldwide.
The available announcement does not provide a feature-by-feature breakdown of Standard versus Ultimate content. Choose an edition based on the contents shown on the store page in your region, and verify the platform before paying.

No. Rockstar’s support information describes the physical version as a box containing a digital download code; it does not include a game disc. Buying the boxed version therefore does not give you a disc that can be inserted into a PS5 or Xbox Series console.
Because the code represents a digital download, redeem it on the matching platform account and console family. A PlayStation code is not an Xbox license, and an Xbox code is not a PC license. Keep the code and receipt until redemption is complete, especially if the package is purchased as a gift.
Practical consequences of the code-only box
- Make sure the code’s region matches your account and store region.
- Have enough console storage and a reliable internet connection for the download.
- Do not buy a used box if the code may already have been redeemed.
- Check whether a retailer is selling the Standard or Ultimate Edition before opening the package.
Choosing a platform if you own an older console or a PC
If you own a PS4
The direct upgrade path for the announced launch is a PS5.
