Usually, yes. On PS5, you can often install only the Call of Duty modes you intend to play instead of downloading the campaign. Warzone is a separate download and is not automatically required for every paid Call of Duty multiplayer installation. The exception is a launcher-dependent feature such as Black Ops 7 Endgame, where Activision may direct players to install the Call of Duty launcher through Warzone.
The short answer for PS5 players
Whether you can avoid the campaign or Warzone depends on the exact Call of Duty release, the edition you own, and the mode you want. Call of Duty is not installed identically across all titles. Some releases expose separate campaign, multiplayer, Zombies, co-op, or other content packs; others use a broader Call of Duty experience that must be installed before the game starts.

For Black Ops 7, Activision provides an Install Options screen on PS5. You can clear Select All, choose only the content you want, and leave the campaign or other unwanted components unchecked. That is the clearest supported way to install multiplayer without the campaign.
Warzone has its own PS5 download route. Installing multiplayer or another selected component of a paid Call of Duty game does not automatically install Warzone. However, some launcher-dependent features can send you through a Warzone installation path. Activision specifically documents this for the Black Ops 7 Endgame route when the Call of Duty launcher is not already installed.

Why the answer changes between Call of Duty titles
Do not assume that an installation choice shown by one release will appear in another. Activision’s documentation describes different packaging for Black Ops 7 and Black Ops 6, so the title displayed in your PS5 Game Library matters more than the general Call of Duty branding.

The safest rule is simple: identify the exact game, then read the content tiles shown in that game’s Install Options or Manage Files screen.
How to install Black Ops 7 without the campaign
These steps follow Activision’s documented PS5 flow. The labels can change slightly after a system or game update, but the sequence is the important part.

- Update the PS5 system software. Installing the latest available system software before starting helps ensure that the current download and content-management screens appear correctly.
- Open Game Library. From the PS5 home screen, go to Game Library and select Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, not a different Call of Duty entry.
- Choose Download. Start the installation from the game’s library page.
- Open Install Options. If the option appears, open it before accepting the default content selection.
- Clear Select All. This removes the default checkmarks so you can make a smaller installation.
- Select only the modes you need. Tick the multiplayer, Zombies, co-op, or other content tiles that are actually offered and relevant to your intended play.
- Leave Campaign unchecked. If the campaign is listed as a separate component, do not select it.
- Select Install. Confirm the reduced selection and allow the chosen files to download.
The result is not a special “multiplayer-only edition.” It is the same release with only the components selected in the installation manager. If a mode is missing from the available tiles, do not assume that it can be separated manually; the options shown for your edition are the controlling list.
Do you need Warzone to play paid Call of Duty multiplayer?
Not in the normal installation case. Activision documents Warzone as a separate PS5 download. To install it, PS5 users open Game Library, select Call of Duty: Warzone, and choose Download. That separate route means Warzone is not automatically required simply because you own or install multiplayer from another Call of Duty title.

If your paid game offers multiplayer as an installable component, select that component in its own Install Options screen. Do not select the Warzone library item unless you specifically want Warzone or a feature whose launcher route requires it.
Why the console may still mention Warzone
The exception is a launcher relationship. Activision says that players who do not have the Call of Duty launcher installed must install it to access Black Ops 7 Endgame. The support path directs those players to the platform marketplace, where they find Warzone and install the Endgame option.
That instruction does not mean every Black Ops 7 player needs Warzone matches, nor does it prove that every mode in every Call of Duty title uses the same launcher. It means that the particular Endgame access path can depend on the launcher package being present. If you are installing ordinary multiplayer and the game does not identify a launcher requirement, Warzone should remain optional.
How to remove the campaign or other packs later
You do not always have to make the perfect choice during the first download. After launching Call of Duty, Activision provides an in-game file-management system intended to reduce the storage used by the Call of Duty library.
- Launch Call of Duty. Open the installed game experience rather than the PS5 system settings.
- Open Menu. Use the game’s main menu to reach the management controls.
- Select Manage Files. This is the area Activision identifies for installing or uninstalling available content.
- Review the installed components. Look for campaign, multiplayer, Zombies, co-op, Endgame, or other content tiles presented by your release.
- Uninstall the campaign pack. Select the campaign component if it is listed and confirm its removal.
- Keep the modes you use. Avoid removing a shared or required component if the game marks it as necessary for another mode.
- Install a missing mode from the same screen. If you later change your mind, use Manage Files to add an available component instead of reinstalling the entire game.
Manage Files can only act on content that the specific release exposes. A campaign pack that is not shown there may be bundled differently, and a launcher component may not be removable while a dependent feature is installed. The screen, rather than a generic storage guide, tells you which files your copy can change.

Black Ops 6 is a warning against generalizing
Activision’s Black Ops 6 installation guide, updated May 7, 2026, describes Black Ops 6 as a standalone title across platforms. It also states that disc owners still need the Call of Duty experience to install the game.

If you are installing Black Ops 6, follow the options presented for Black Ops 6 itself. A disc may provide the game license or data, but the documented installation still requires the Call of Duty experience.
What to select for each type of player
Use the mode you want as the starting point. The exact tiles and names can differ by release, edition, and update.
- Multiplayer only: In Black Ops 7, clear Select All and choose the multiplayer component. Leave campaign unchecked. Warzone is not automatically part of this selection.
- Campaign only: Select the campaign component and omit multiplayer, Zombies, or other optional packs when the installer allows individual choices.
- Multiplayer and Zombies: Select both requested components and leave campaign and unrelated packs unchecked.
- Warzone: Select the separate Call of Duty: Warzone item in Game Library and choose Download.
- Black Ops 7 Endgame: Check whether the Call of Duty launcher is already installed. If it is not, follow Activision’s documented marketplace route, which may involve installing Warzone and then the Endgame option.
- Unsure which files are safe to remove: Open Menu > Manage Files in the installed Call of Duty experience and use the components listed there rather than deleting files from PS5 storage manually.
Digital and disc copies: what the documentation establishes
The installation behavior is tied to the title and edition, not simply to whether the game appears on a disc. For Black Ops 6, Activision explicitly notes that disc owners still need the Call of Duty experience to install the game. That is the documented requirement; it should not be broadened into a claim that every disc version of every Call of Duty release behaves identically.
For a digital purchase, start with the exact title in Game Library and check whether Install Options appears. For a disc copy, insert the disc, allow the PS5 to identify the release, and then inspect the same title-specific options. If the options do not include separate campaign or multiplayer packs, the release may not support the same level of component selection as Black Ops 7.

Troubleshooting: when Call of Duty keeps asking for Warzone
You selected Endgame
If the requested feature is Black Ops 7 Endgame and the launcher is absent, the Warzone-related prompt can be expected. Install the launcher through the marketplace route Activision specifies, then return to the Endgame option. This prompt is about access to that feature, not a universal requirement for all multiplayer.
You opened the Warzone library item by mistake
PS5 can show multiple Call of Duty entries. Return to Game Library and select the paid title you own, such as Black Ops 7, rather than Call of Duty: Warzone. The two entries have separate download paths.
You accepted the default selection
Reopen the title’s installation flow or, after launch, open Menu > Manage Files. In Black Ops 7, the relevant control is Install Options; clear Select All before choosing individual components.
The campaign is not listed separately
Do not delete arbitrary files from the PS5 storage screen. If the release does not expose the campaign as an independent tile in Install Options or Manage Files, its packaging may differ from Black Ops 7. Follow the components shown for that release.

Check which components are selected, including any launcher or shared content required by the title. The selectable list is the reliable way to identify what the installation is about to add. After installation, Manage Files can show whether additional content remains installed.
A practical pre-download checklist
- Confirm the exact Call of Duty title and edition in Game Library.
- Decide whether you need multiplayer, campaign, Zombies, co-op, Endgame, Warzone, or a combination.
- Update PS5 system software before beginning.
- Look for Install Options before accepting Select All.
- Remember that Warzone is a separate library download.
- Expect a launcher-related Warzone route if you are installing Black Ops 7 Endgame without the Call of Duty launcher.
- Use Menu > Manage Files after launch to add or remove content that the game exposes.
- For Black Ops 6, follow its standalone-title installation behavior rather than copying Black Ops 7’s assumptions.
Bottom line
On PS5, you can generally play Call of Duty without installing the campaign, and you do not normally need Warzone for a paid game’s multiplayer. Black Ops 7 explicitly supports selective installation: clear Select All in Install Options, choose the modes you want, and leave the campaign out. Warzone is downloaded separately. The important exception is a launcher-dependent feature such as Black Ops 7 Endgame, which can direct users through Warzone installation when the Call of Duty launcher is missing. Because Black Ops 6 is documented as a standalone title with different packaging, always make the decision from the exact release’s Install Options and Manage Files screens.
