Short answer: standard online play with any Armored Core VI mod is unsafe and contrary to the published rules. FromSoftware’s Terms of Service prohibit altering the game program, game data, or save data, and also prohibit using the game in a way the company did not intend. Those rules allow warnings, deletion of recorded data, suspension, or termination of access to online Services. On PC, Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) loads with the game and is described as analyzing game binaries and scanning hardware memory for cheat detection.
That does not mean every mod user is automatically banned, nor does it establish a reliable way to predict detection. No official document publishes a mod whitelist, a safe-harbor category for cosmetic files, or a guaranteed exception for client-side changes. The defensible approach is to keep modded play offline and restore an unmodified installation and save before using normal online features.
What the official rules prohibit
FromSoftware’s Terms of Service
The Terms of Service address the game and its online Services broadly. Article 10 prohibits “alterations to the Game’s program, game data and/or save data,” reverse engineering, and playing in a manner not intended by the company. The wording is not limited to damage, cheating, ranked matches, or changes that other players can see.
For prohibited acts, FromSoftware or a service provider may issue a warning, delete recorded data, suspend use of the Services, or cease providing the Services to an account. The document describes available remedies rather than a fixed penalty schedule. It does not promise a warning before suspension, identify a number of offenses that triggers a ban, or state how long a suspension will last.

Easy Anti-Cheat in the PC game
Article 11 says Easy Anti-Cheat loads with the game and may analyze binaries and scan hardware memory for cheat detection. The Steam product listing also identifies Armored Core VI as supporting online player-versus-player play and using Easy Anti-Cheat. In practical terms, the normal PC online environment includes an anti-cheat component that can inspect the running game and relevant memory; it is not an offline-only feature that you can assume will ignore modified files.
Steam’s EULA
The Steam-hosted Armored Core VI EULA repeats the prohibitions on altering the game and using it in an unintended way. It likewise lists warnings, deletion of recorded data, suspension, or cessation of Services as possible responses. Having purchased the game through Steam does not create a separate permission to use altered files online.
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.05 warning
Bandai Namco’s 2024 Version 1.05 patch notes give a direct warning: “illegal violations of the terms of use, such as alterations, falsifications, etc. made to the game’s programming or character data, will be met with a warning/penalty.” The same notes state that the update is required for online play. A modified programming file or edited character data therefore falls within language the publisher specifically called out when discussing online access.
Does the type of mod change the answer?
There is no publisher-certified list dividing mods into safe and unsafe groups. The Terms use broad language covering program, game-data, and save-data alterations, so you cannot treat a mod as authorized merely because it is cosmetic, runs on the client, or is not intended to provide a competitive advantage.

The practical distinction is not “cheat versus cosmetic.” It is whether you are connecting to the standard Services with altered program, game, or save data. A mod that never touches competitive behavior may still be outside the published terms.

How to assess a proposed setup
Use these risk-management questions before launching. They are a conservative reading of the rules, not categories certified by FromSoftware or Bandai Namco.
- Services connection: Will the installation connect to standard matchmaking, co-op, leaderboards, or other online Services?
- Installation state: Are the executable, archives, DLLs, and other game files exactly the current unmodified release?
- Save state: Is the save free of edited inventory, currency, unlocks, mission flags, or character data?
- EAC state: Is EAC loading through the normal game path, with no assumption that disabling or bypassing it makes an altered setup acceptable?
- Competitive impact: Does the change affect damage, movement, equipment, hit detection, progression, or any information another player could not obtain normally?
- Separation: Do you have a genuinely separate offline installation or save set, rather than relying on memory to remove files later?
If any answer points to a modified installation or save connecting to standard Services, treat the setup as unsafe. A separate offline arrangement reduces accidental crossover; it does not authorize online use.
The lowest-risk way to use mods
1. Keep modded play offline
Use mods only in a configuration that does not connect to standard Armored Core VI Services. Do not enter matchmaking, co-op sessions, leaderboards, or other online features from that configuration. If a mod requires a separate executable, loader, launch option, or offline mode, keep those components confined to the offline setup.
2. Maintain separate files and saves
Keep independent backups of the vanilla installation and the unmodified save. Label them clearly and avoid copying progress from a modded save into the online save. Backups are an operational safeguard: they lower the chance of launching the wrong files, but they do not make an altered file set permitted online.
3. Restore the vanilla installation before online play
- Exit the game and its mod loader completely.
- Remove the mod’s altered files, injected components, launch options, and loader configuration according to that mod’s removal instructions.
- Restore the original game files from your clean backup or use Steam’s installed-file verification so altered files are reacquired.
- Restore the unmodified save backup. Do not assume that a clean executable makes an edited character or progression record acceptable.
- Launch Armored Core VI through the normal, unmodified game path with EAC enabled as supplied for the PC game.
- Check that the game has updated to the version required for online play before attempting matchmaking or co-op.
The order matters because a mod can change more than the files you remember installing, and a save can remain altered after the executable has been repaired.

4. Keep the two workflows separate
Do not switch a single save back and forth between modded and online sessions. If you experiment frequently, use distinct user profiles or clearly separated save sets and maintain a written checklist of which one is permitted to connect. This is risk reduction, not a publisher-approved method.

Some PC mod setups are designed to run only when EAC is disabled or when the game is started through a special launcher. That may prevent the normal online environment from loading, but it does not turn the mod into an authorized online configuration. The Terms still prohibit alterations, and attempting to bypass an anti-cheat component while connecting to Services adds another reason not to use that setup online.
Never interpret an absence of an immediate warning as approval. Detection can depend on the files, timing, server checks, or account records involved, and the published documents provide no probability of detection or guaranteed grace period.
Can you go back online after removing mods?
You can reduce the chance of an accidental violation by returning to a verified vanilla installation and an unmodified save before launching the standard online game path. The documents do not state that removal erases prior records, guarantees that an account will be accepted, or creates an appeal right. If altered files or data were previously used with Services, no published procedure promises that later cleanup reverses any resulting action.
For that reason, treat restoration as a prerequisite for future online sessions, not as a retroactive guarantee. Keep the clean backup from before experimentation, and avoid importing modded progression into it.

What penalties are possible?
The available remedies described in the Terms and EULA are discretionary:
- A warning;
- Deletion of recorded data;
- Suspension of Services use; or
- Cessation or termination of access to the Services.
Version 1.05 summarizes the consequence as a “warning/penalty.” Neither that notice nor the Terms gives a universal duration, a guaranteed sequence from warning to ban, or a published threshold based on the number or type of mods. Do not rely on anecdotes claiming that a particular cosmetic file is always safe or that a first offense is always forgiven.

- Stop connecting the altered installation to online Services.
- Remove mod loaders, injected files, and edited data; then restore the vanilla files and an unmodified save.
- Record the exact in-game message, date, game version, and platform details without modifying the evidence.
- Use the publisher or platform support channel identified for your account and provide those details.
- Do not assume support will reverse the action; the reviewed documents do not specify a guaranteed appeal outcome or ban duration.
What is not known
Authoritative documents do not publish a statistic for the percentage of mod users banned, a probability of detection, or an average suspension length. They also do not identify a safe mod loader, certify offline-to-online file swaps, or state that EAC scans every possible alteration. The absence of those details is not evidence that a setup is allowed; it means the risk cannot be quantified from the published rules.
Decision checklist
Before pressing the online button, every answer should be “yes”:

- Is the game installation restored to unmodified files?
- Is the save unedited and separate from the modded save?
- Are all mod loaders, injected libraries, launch options, and file replacements removed?
- Are you launching through the normal game path with EAC enabled?
- Is the installed version the one required for current online play?
If any answer is “no” or “I am not sure,” stay offline until you can restore and verify a clean setup. That is the only approach consistent with the broad prohibitions and the publisher’s specific Version 1.05 warning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a cosmetic Armored Core VI mod definitely get me banned?
No published source gives a definite outcome for a particular cosmetic mod. It does establish that altered game data is prohibited and provides no cosmetic safe harbor, so standard online use remains unsafe.
Is playing PvP with a modded install allowed if the mod does not change damage?
The rules do not limit the prohibition to damage or competitive advantages. Connecting a modified installation to standard Services can still violate the alteration and unintended-use provisions.
Does turning off Easy Anti-Cheat make online mod use safe?
No. Disabling or bypassing EAC does not remove the Terms’ prohibition on altered program, game, or save data, and it prevents the normal anti-cheat online environment from loading.
