Yes—if The Washington Post bills you directly, you can cancel digital or print subscriptions online in My Post. Print subscribers can also place a temporary vacation hold online. The official materials reviewed do not document an online way to transfer a paid subscription to another person.
What you can do, when the change takes effect, and where you do it depend on your subscription type and billing channel. A subscription purchased through Apple, Amazon, Google Play, or another partner must be changed under that provider’s rules rather than in My Post.
Choose the right action before changing anything
“Pause,” “cancel,” and “transfer” are different account changes. A pause is a temporary stop for physical newspaper delivery; it does not stop billing or extend the subscription. Cancellation stops future renewal charges, while ordinary access continues through the current paid billing period. A transfer would change the account holder or move billing to another person, and no self-service transfer procedure is published in the official Washington Post help and terms materials reviewed.

How to cancel a directly billed digital subscription
The Washington Post Help Center states, “You can cancel your subscription at any time.” For a subscription purchased directly from The Washington Post, use the My Post account that receives the charges.

- Sign in to My Post with the email address and password associated with the subscription.
- Open the profile or account area that contains subscription management. The exact label may appear as the subscription-management area or Subscription & Billing.
- Select the option to manage or cancel the subscription and follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
- Save the confirmation page or email so you have a record of the cancellation date and the subscription affected.
The Help Center says charging stops in the following billing cycle. The digital-product terms add that cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current Billing Period. In practical terms, canceling today normally prevents the next renewal rather than ending a prepaid period immediately, and fees for the unused part of the current period are generally nonrefundable.
There is a special timing rule for a free trial: the terms say a free-trial cancellation may take effect immediately. Read the confirmation screen carefully if you are still in a trial, because access can end sooner than it would for a regular paid period.
Canceling an add-on without canceling the base plan
An add-on is managed separately from the main subscription. Open Subscription & Billing, choose Manage or Cancel, and select the specific add-on. Confirm that the item shown is the add-on you intend to remove. Canceling an add-on does not automatically cancel the base Washington Post plan, so a reader who wants to end everything must also cancel the base subscription in its own control.

How to cancel print and home delivery online
The online path for home delivery, same-day mail, and WP Weekly is distinct from the general digital cancellation description.
- Sign in to My Post.
- Choose Manage subscription.
- Select Cancel my subscription.
- Complete the confirmation flow and retain the confirmation details.
This procedure is for ending the print subscription, not for taking a short break. If you expect to resume delivery, use the vacation-stop workflow instead so you do not have to start a new subscription later.
How to pause print delivery with a vacation hold
The official online pause option is for print delivery. It is not a digital-subscription freeze: the Washington Post says digital access continues through its website and apps while a temporary print stop is active.

- Sign in to My Post.
- Open Subscription and Billing.
- Choose Manage or cancel.
- Select Manage vacation stops.
- Enter the start and end dates for the delivery suspension.
- Save the request and verify that the dates shown match your travel or absence.
Vacation-stop deadlines
Submit the request before the applicable cutoff:
- Daily and Sunday delivery: before 5 p.m. the day before the first missed delivery.
- Sunday-only delivery: before 5 p.m. Friday.
The Washington Post states that a vacation stop does not credit or extend the subscription. You are temporarily stopping physical delivery, not adding unused days to the end of the paid term. Full digital access to Washington Post content continues through the website and apps during the stop.
Can you transfer a Washington Post subscription?
No online transfer process is documented in the official Help Center and terms materials reviewed for changing the account holder or moving a paid subscription to someone else. That is different from sharing access: the Help Center lists sharing options, but sharing does not transfer ownership, billing responsibility, or the original account’s subscription terms.
The terms also state that credits are not transferable. If your goal involves a move, a gift, another household member, a shared account, or a change in who pays, do not assume that changing the profile name will transfer the subscription. Contact Customer Care and describe the exact change you need. A representative can tell you whether the request is supported and what account or billing steps apply.

What changes when you cancel?
Future charges
For recurring subscriptions, cancellation applies to future charges associated with the subscription. The terms state that the cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current Billing Period, so a normal paid subscription is not usually refunded for the unused portion of that period.
Access after cancellation
Digital access normally remains available through the end of the current paid billing period. This is why a cancellation confirmation can coexist with continued sign-in access: the renewal is stopped, but the period already paid for has not yet ended. A free-trial cancellation may be effective immediately instead.

Refund expectations
The published terms say, “Cancellation only applies to future charges associated with your subscription, and you will not receive a refund for the current Billing Period.” That statement describes the standard rule; any request involving an unusual charge, duplicate billing, or a provider-specific policy should be raised with the party that billed you.

If you subscribed through Apple, Amazon, Google Play, or another partner
My Post cannot replace the billing controls of an app store or other third party. The Washington Post materials specify that subscriptions purchased through an app store, Amazon, Google Play, or another partner are governed by that provider’s terms and procedures.
- Identify who appears on the charge or receipt. The merchant name and receipt usually reveal whether The Washington Post or a third party billed you.
- Sign in to the same provider account used for the purchase.
- Open that provider’s subscriptions or recurring-billing controls.
- Cancel or change the Washington Post subscription there, following the provider’s confirmation and refund rules.
- Keep the provider’s confirmation; a My Post cancellation screen does not by itself prove that a third-party renewal was stopped.
If you cannot identify the billing channel, Customer Care can help you determine where the subscription is managed. Do not cancel the wrong plan while trying to stop a separate add-on or a second subscription.
When the online option does not solve the problem
Contact Washington Post Customer Care when you need a transfer, cannot access the My Post account, see charges from a third party, or believe a cancellation did not stop a renewal. The Help Center lists 24/7 chat, email, and phone support at 1-800-477-4679. Its stated phone-support hours are Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–6 p.m. Eastern Time; Saturday, 7 a.m.–12 p.m. Eastern Time; and Sunday, 7 a.m.–12 p.m. Eastern Time. The digital-product terms also list help@washpost.com and a customer-care contact route.
Information to have ready
- The email address used for the Washington Post account.
- The subscription type: digital, home delivery, same-day mail, WP Weekly, or an add-on.
- The billing source shown on your receipt or card statement.
- The date and time you attempted to cancel or place a vacation stop.
- Any confirmation number, email, screenshot, or charge you need the representative to investigate.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using a vacation stop to seek a billing credit: the hold pauses print delivery but does not credit or extend the subscription.
- Expecting cancellation to erase the current charge: ordinary cancellation stops future renewals and generally does not refund the current Billing Period.
- Canceling only an add-on: the base plan remains active unless you cancel it separately.
- Trying to cancel a partner-billed subscription in My Post: use the app store or other billing provider that processed the purchase.
- Confusing sharing with transfer: shared access does not change the account holder or billing owner, and no official self-service transfer workflow is documented.
- Missing the print-delivery cutoff: submit a vacation stop by the stated deadline to avoid the next scheduled delivery.
Which option fits your situation?
Use cancel when you want future renewals to stop. Use Manage vacation stops when you are temporarily away but want the print subscription to remain in place. Use the billing provider’s controls when the subscription was purchased through an app store or partner. For an ownership, gift, address, or payer change, contact Customer Care because an online transfer procedure is not published.
