Yes—but only when both computers run a supported Bedrock Edition client. Windows 10 and 11 have Bedrock, while the official Minecraft desktop edition for macOS is Java Edition. That means a Bedrock world can move to a Windows Bedrock installation, but it cannot be opened natively in Minecraft on a Mac because Minecraft does not document an official macOS Bedrock client. For supported Bedrock devices, the official transfer method is Minecraft Realms: upload the world on the source device, then download it on the destination.
The short answer: Mac and Windows are different Minecraft editions
The word “Minecraft” hides an important platform distinction. Minecraft’s edition guide, published October 25, 2021, says that Minecraft: Java Edition is only available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The same guide lists Bedrock Edition for Windows 10 and 11, Xbox One and Series consoles, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS and Windows Mobile.
Consequently, a Bedrock world cannot be transferred to a Mac and then opened in a native Bedrock Mac client. There is no official macOS Bedrock client documented by Minecraft. A Mac can run Java Edition, but Java and Bedrock use different game editions, world formats and feature implementations. A file copied from a Bedrock computer does not change the edition installed on the Mac.
If your destination is a Windows 10 or 11 computer running Bedrock, the answer is straightforward: move the world through Realms, or carry an exported .mcworld backup and import it with supported Bedrock tooling. If your destination is macOS, Realms and file copying can preserve or transport the data, but they do not make that world playable in a native Bedrock Mac installation.

The first row is the supported cross-computer workflow. The other rows describe boundaries that prevent a common mistake: confusing a portable file with a compatible game client.
Use Realms for a Bedrock-to-Bedrock transfer
Minecraft Help describes Realms this way: “Minecraft Realms allows you to upload your single-player worlds to the cloud and download them on your other devices for uninterrupted play.” The process works between supported Bedrock devices, including a Windows Bedrock PC and another Windows Bedrock PC. It requires an active Realms trial or subscription and the same Microsoft account on the destination.

Before you start
- Confirm that the source and destination both run Bedrock Edition. On a PC, that means Windows 10 or Windows 11 for the edition listed by Minecraft.
- Update Minecraft on both devices before uploading or downloading. Minecraft’s transfer instructions specifically tell users to use current game versions.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns or can access the Realm. Use that same account on the destination device.
- Decide whether you are filling an empty Realm slot or replacing a world already in a slot. Replacement overwrites the selected Realm world, so make a backup first if it contains anything you may need.
- Ensure that your Realms trial or paid subscription is active. The official Realms page showed $3.99 USD per month for Realms and $7.99 USD per month for Realms Plus when checked in 2026; prices and availability can change by region, platform and date.
Upload the world from the source device
- Launch Minecraft on the source Bedrock device and select Play.
- Open the Realms tab and select the Realm you will use.
- Open Realms Hub.
- Select a world slot and choose Edit World.
- At the bottom of the hub, choose Upload World when the slot is empty. If the slot already contains a world, choose Replace World instead.
- Confirm the upload or replacement and wait for Minecraft to finish publishing the world to the Realm.
Uploading a single-player world places a copy in the Realm; it does not require you to delete the original local save. If you use Replace World, verify the selected slot and the world name before confirming, because the existing Realm contents are the version being replaced.
Download the world on Windows
- On the destination Windows computer, launch Minecraft and sign in with the same Microsoft account.
- Select Play, open Realms, and select the Realm.
- Open Realms Hub, select the uploaded slot, and choose Edit World.
- Select Download World and wait for the download to complete.
- Return to the destination device’s Worlds tab. Minecraft names the downloaded copy World name – Copy.
- Use the pencil icon beside that copy if you want to rename it, change its settings or make it your working local copy.
The downloaded world is a local copy on the destination. Later changes you make to that local copy do not automatically update the Realm unless you upload or replace the Realm world again.

What Realms can and cannot do
- It can: move a Bedrock world through Minecraft’s supported cloud workflow, preserve a playable Bedrock copy on another supported device, and avoid manually locating platform-specific save folders.
- It cannot: install Bedrock on macOS, turn a Java world into a Bedrock world, or make a Bedrock save playable in the Mac Java client.
- It requires: a supported Bedrock destination, current versions on both devices, an active trial or subscription, and the same Microsoft account on the destination.
- It creates: a destination-world copy labeled “World name – Copy,” which you can rename with the pencil icon.
Realms is therefore a transfer service, not an edition converter. If the computer you call “the Mac” is actually running Windows through a supported installation, evaluate the Windows installation as the destination platform; the macOS Java installation itself remains outside the documented Bedrock path.
What a .mcworld file is useful for
Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock Editor documentation, last updated September 23, 2025, describes worlds in a minecraftWorlds folder and documents .mcworld as an importable world package. That makes an exported package useful as a backup artifact or as a way to carry a world to another environment that supports Bedrock import.

The practical distinction is important:
- An exported
.mcworldcontains Bedrock world data in a package that compatible Minecraft tooling can import. - A USB flash drive or external SSD can carry that package between computers, protecting it from a failed disk or making it available on the next Windows PC.
- Neither the package nor the drive supplies a Bedrock game executable for macOS. The Mac still has the official Java desktop client.
If your Bedrock build offers an in-game world export command, keep the resulting .mcworld file as a separate backup before experimenting with imports. Import it only in a Bedrock-capable environment using that environment’s documented import control. Do not assume that copying an arbitrary folder into a Mac Java save directory will work; Java does not read a Bedrock world as a native save.
Mac-to-Windows cases that readers commonly mean
“My world is on a Mac.”
First identify the edition. The official macOS desktop client is Java Edition, so a world created there is a Java world. The Bedrock Realms procedure above is not a Java-to-Bedrock conversion procedure. If your goal is to continue that exact Java world on Windows, install and use Java Edition on Windows and move it through Java’s own supported save and backup methods. If your goal is specifically Bedrock on Windows, the supplied Minecraft platform guidance does not establish an official conversion path, so do not promise that a Realms upload will convert it.

“My world is on a Windows PC and I want it on a Mac.”
Check whether the Windows world is Java or Bedrock. A Windows Java world can be used with Java Edition on macOS, subject to the normal Java game requirements. A Windows Bedrock world can be uploaded to Realms and downloaded on another supported Bedrock device, but the Mac’s official client is Java, so the downloaded Bedrock copy still has no native Bedrock runtime on macOS.
“I bought a new Windows PC.”
If the old and new computers both run Bedrock on Windows 10 or 11, use the Realms upload/download sequence. If you prefer not to use cloud transfer, an exported .mcworld can serve as a transportable backup for compatible Bedrock tooling. Keep the original world untouched until you have opened and checked the destination copy.
Troubleshooting the transfer
The Realm or upload controls are missing
- Confirm that you are in the Bedrock client, not Java Edition.
- Update Minecraft on the source and destination, then restart both clients.
- Check that the account has an active Realms trial or subscription and that you opened the correct Realm.
- Use Upload World for an empty slot and Replace World for a slot that already has a world.
The world does not appear on the destination
- Verify that the destination is signed in with the same Microsoft account used to access the Realm.
- Open Play → Realms, select the Realm, then use Realms Hub → Edit World → Download World.
- Look in the local Worlds tab for the name followed by – Copy, rather than expecting the original name.
The world opens on Windows but not on the Mac
This is the expected edition boundary when the source is Bedrock. The file may have transferred correctly; macOS still lacks the official Bedrock client documented by Minecraft. Use the world on a supported Bedrock device, or use Java Edition for Java worlds.
You want to replace a Realm but fear losing its current version
Download or otherwise preserve the existing Realm world before choosing Replace World. Replacement changes the contents of that Realm slot; it is not merely an additional upload.

Checklist before deleting or replacing anything
- Write down the edition shown by each installation: Java or Bedrock.
- Update both clients.
- Confirm the destination platform is officially supported for Bedrock.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account on the destination.
- Keep the original local world until the downloaded copy opens and you have checked important builds, inventories and settings.
- If using a file transfer, retain the original
.mcworldbackup and use separate storage such as a USB drive or external SSD. - Do not treat a successful file copy as proof that macOS can run Bedrock.
Bottom line
Move Bedrock worlds from one supported Bedrock device to another with Realms: update both devices, upload or replace the source world, then download it on the destination using the same Microsoft account. Windows 10 and 11 are supported Bedrock desktop platforms. macOS’s official desktop client is Java Edition, so neither Realms nor a copied .mcworld file gives a Mac a native way to play that Bedrock world. Use file exports as backups, not as an edition workaround.
