Yes, but “Wi-Fi income” describes two different activities: sharing some of your internet connection through an app, or operating a paid or hosted hotspot. Neither guarantees earnings. Your location, connection, permissions, equipment, and local demand determine whether either is worthwhile.

What does making money from Wi-Fi mean?

In bandwidth sharing, an app may route some business requests through your internet connection and residential IP address. This does not mean giving strangers your Wi-Fi password. In a paid hotspot model, you provide local users with internet access for a fee or host a separate network whose provider pays when people connect.

The models differ in how they earn money, what you need to set up, and what permissions or risks to consider:

Factor Bandwidth-sharing app Paid or hosted hotspot
How it earns A provider routes some customer traffic through your connection or IP; payment depends on demand and the provider’s terms. Customers buy access time, or a network provider pays when users connect.
Typical setup A supported device, an app, an eligible internet connection, and opt-in. A router or access point; depending on the model, a captive portal, payment controller, vending hardware, or host-network device.
What the available earnings evidence shows Vendor-stated rates and estimates; no independent market-wide average is established. One operator guide gives gross revenue estimates; it does not establish general profit.
Main dependencies Location and IP demand, uptime, device support, payout rules, and internet-plan terms. Foot traffic, competition, pricing, ISP uptime, equipment, and permissions.

How does bandwidth sharing work, and what might it pay?

Bandwidth-sharing services use software to make some otherwise unused connection capacity available to customers. Honeygain describes business uses such as market research, ad verification, and web performance testing; Cash Raven describes enterprise customers using participants’ residential IPs for web data scraping and analysis. These are each provider’s descriptions of its own service, not independent assurance about every app or every use of a shared connection. See Honeygain’s guide and Cash Raven’s FAQ.

TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21 V5)
  • DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

Published figures are provider claims, not a reliable forecast for an individual user. Honeygain’s 2026 blog states typical earnings of $5–$15 per month; it does not independently validate that range. Cash Raven’s undated FAQ states a rate of $0.10 per GB and a $15 payout threshold. It says demand and geographic IP requirements affect earnings, and lists PayPal and ACH, with a fee for ACH. Check the service’s current platform support, payout terms, and fees before installing it: the FAQ describes Android support and Windows support as upcoming, so that status may have changed.

Actual usage can depend on whether there is demand for your location and IP, how long your device is online, and whether your connection meets the provider’s requirements. A stated per-gigabyte rate or monthly estimate does not mean that a particular amount of traffic will be routed through your connection.

How does selling or hosting hotspot access work?

A paid hotspot is a small operating business, not simply an app running in the background. You provide access to nearby customers and need a way to manage who connects, how long they can use the service, and how they pay. One option is your own prepaid hotspot; another is hosting a third-party network device connected to local internet.

Run a prepaid hotspot

In a Philippines-focused example, TP-Link describes Piso WiFi: a customer joins the local wireless network, opens a captive portal, inserts coins, and receives internet access for a set session. The documented setup combines a coin slot, control board, router, and firmware to manage session time, pause windows, and pricing. The guide names LPB Piso WiFi, AdoPiSoft, and JuanFi as firmware platforms that work with standard TP-Link routers. This describes one local model; hardware, payment methods, ISP terms, and applicable requirements may differ elsewhere. See TP-Link Philippines’ guide to Piso WiFi earnings and its setup guide.

Host a provider’s network

EXTRA WiFi describes a separate arrangement in which a host connects the provider’s device to local internet and earns when someone connects through that network. The provider says payment depends on the country and the duration of access purchased. Its page does not give a universal payout figure, so check whether the program operates in your location and what its current terms offer before investing in equipment. See EXTRA WiFi.

The figures are gross revenue, not profit: the table does not account for internet service, equipment, fees, maintenance, or other costs. Which model should you consider?

  • Consider bandwidth sharing if you want to test a software-based model and are comfortable with a service routing some requests through your connection and residential IP. Check its privacy, traffic-use, device-support, and payout terms first.
  • Consider a paid hotspot if you have a suitable location, can provide reliable service, and are prepared to handle customer access, equipment, operating costs, and permissions.
  • Consider hosted-network arrangements carefully if a provider offers them where you live. Confirm how its payment is calculated and whether your ISP permits connecting the device to your service.

The available figures do not show which approach pays best for a particular person. They come from service providers and operator-reported examples, not an independent, market-wide earnings study. Your location, connection, customer demand, costs, and current provider terms matter more than a headline estimate.

What permissions and risks should you check?

Do not assume that every ISP allows resale or sharing of an internet connection, or that every bandwidth-sharing app handles traffic in the same way. Before signing up or taking payments:

  • Read your ISP contract and ask the provider whether your plan permits sharing or reselling access.
  • Review the app or hotspot provider’s current terms, privacy policy, traffic-use description, payout threshold, and fees.
  • For a hotspot, confirm that you own the network or have valid authorization to share it. LinkSure Network’s terms place responsibility for that authorization on the person sharing hotspot details and require compliance with applicable law. Those terms apply to that service; they are not universal legal advice. See LinkSure Network’s terms.
  • Secure the network and customer access rather than exposing the private credentials or devices on your home network.
  • Check local requirements before taking payments. The available sources do not determine country-specific legality or tax obligations.

LinkSure Network also states that it does not provide the underlying internet connection and disclaims guarantees about service security and accuracy. Treat this as one provider’s policy, not a guarantee about other services.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How should you estimate whether it is worthwhile?

For bandwidth sharing, estimate conservatively: check the provider’s current rate and payout threshold, then consider that usage depends on demand for your location and IP. A rate per gigabyte alone cannot tell you how much traffic you will actually share.

For a paid hotspot, start with a realistic estimate of paying users and access sessions at your location. Then subtract the costs of internet service, equipment, payment handling, maintenance, and any other operating expenses. Do not treat a gross-revenue example as take-home income. If you cannot confirm permission to share the connection or cannot estimate demand and costs, resolve those questions before buying dedicated equipment.
