Yes, but only before you claim it. The Championship Belt hunt in BO7 Zombies does not save its Totenreich progress between runs. If the game ends before you complete the four-wave trial and pick up the belt, you must restart the magazine, kill counters, portal and trial in a fresh run.
Once you pick up the Championship Belt, it becomes an account-level relic for Cursed Mode and Cursed Survival on every map. Normal gameplay does not provide a way to delete that unlock, so you should not have to repeat the 900-kill setup just to use the belt again.
What “lose the belt” actually means
Players use “lose” to describe three different situations, and the outcome depends on when the interruption happens.

Ending the run before the pickup
The side-quest progress is temporary until the relic is claimed. Leaving the match, dying, disconnecting or otherwise failing to finish the sequence does not preserve the magazine step, the 18 kill counters, the portal or the trial. Your next attempt starts from the beginning in a new run.

Losing weapons during the trial
The trial deliberately removes your weapons at the end of every wave. That is a trial modifier, not the game deleting the Championship Belt or another relic. Perks, augments and your field upgrade carry over, but your weapons do not. You must buy replacement wall guns and spend Essence to Pack-a-Punch them as the waves continue.
After claiming the Championship Belt
Picking up the belt completes the unlock on your account. The documented behavior makes it available in Cursed Mode and Cursed Survival on every map, and ordinary play does not include a menu action or event that removes it. If you cannot see it later, check the relic menu and equip it again rather than repeating the Easter Egg.

- Finish the Totenreich main Easter Egg. The account must have completed the map’s main Easter Egg before the Cursed Mode relic quest is available.
- Load Cursed Mode and begin the Jotunn Star quest. Follow the quest to the lighthouse.
- Pick up the Mr. Peeks magazine first. The magazine must be in your inventory before you take the Jotunn Star wonder weapon. If you take Jotunn Star first, the magazine is removed for that game and the kill counters will not start; restart that match.
- Complete all 18 counters. Get 50 kills with each of the 17 wall-buy weapons and another 50 kills with the Jotunn Star. The total is 900 kills.
- Enter the portal. When every counter reaches 50, the portal appears beside the Arsenal in Eidskallen Square.
- Clear all four trial waves and claim the belt. Survive the complete trial, then pick up the Championship Belt. The pickup, rather than merely opening the portal or entering the arena, is what grants the account unlock.
Kill-counter requirements
The counter logic is stricter than a general “get kills with similar weapons” objective. The game tracks 18 separate requirements.

Weapons that do not advance the counters
- A Mystery Box copy does not substitute for the corresponding wall-buy weapon.
- A weapon brought in through your loadout does not count as a wall-buy purchase.
- Kills made with a teammate’s weapon do not credit your counters.
For a reliable run, buy every required weapon directly from its wall location and record the counter as you complete it. Do not assume that using the same weapon model from another source will satisfy the objective.
Why the Mr. Peeks pickup order matters
The magazine is the quest’s irreversible checkpoint within that match. You must collect it at the lighthouse before taking the Jotunn Star. Taking the wonder weapon first causes the magazine to disappear for that game, and later kills will not start the 18 counters. There is no in-match repair described for that state; quit or finish abandoning the attempt and restart the setup in a fresh run.

This ordering issue is different from losing weapons in the trial. A trial weapon reset is expected and recoverable with Essence. A missing magazine prevents the counter system from starting, so buying replacement guns or revisiting the lighthouse will not fix that attempt.

How the one-sitting requirement affects your planning
The Totenreich relic progress is not saved between runs. You therefore need enough time and resources to complete the magazine, all 900 kills, the portal encounter and the four-wave trial in one continuous session. A partial run cannot be resumed later with only the unfinished weapons remaining.
Before starting the counters
- Confirm that the Totenreich main Easter Egg is complete on the account.
- Enter Cursed Mode and reach the lighthouse portion of the Jotunn Star quest.
- Put the Mr. Peeks magazine in your inventory before picking up Jotunn Star.
- Plan a route through the 17 wall buys so you can return to each location without losing track of a counter.
While completing the 900 kills
- Use only the wall-bought copy for each weapon’s 50 kills.
- Keep a written or on-screen checklist of all 17 wall buys plus Jotunn Star.
- Do not treat a weapon swap, down or temporary detour as a checkpoint; the counters still depend on finishing the same run.
- Save enough Essence for the arena phase instead of spending everything on upgrades during the counter phase.
The four-wave trial and its weapon reset
When all 18 counters reach 50, the portal appears by the Arsenal in Eidskallen Square. Entering it starts the relic trial. At the end of each wave, the trial takes your weapons. This reset repeats throughout the four-wave sequence.

Your perks, augments and field upgrade carry over, so those investments remain useful. Your weapon loadout does not. Treat each wave as a short purchase cycle: identify a suitable wall gun, buy it after the reset, and Pack-a-Punch it when your Essence budget allows.
Essence management
Bank Essence before entering the portal. The trial’s forced weapon removal means the gun you upgraded in one wave cannot be relied on in the next. A player who spends all available Essence before the portal may enter the next wave without enough currency for a replacement or Pack-a-Punch level, even though the trial itself is functioning normally.
The practical implication is not that the belt is at risk during the arena. The risk is failing the run because you cannot rearm, which sends you back to the beginning because the relic quest has no saved progress.

Recovery guide for common failure states

Can you reacquire the Championship Belt?
If “reacquire” means using it again after you have unlocked it, yes: select it from the relic menu and equip it for Cursed Mode or Cursed Survival. The account-level unlock is described as usable on every map, so changing maps does not require another trial.
If “reacquire” means recovering an attempt that ended before the pickup, no saved checkpoint is documented. You must repeat the magazine, all 18 counters, the portal and the four-wave trial. The game does not provide a shorter catch-up route for a partially completed run.
If the account itself has been rolled back, unlinked, banned or otherwise loses a server-side entitlement, the available gameplay documentation does not establish a recovery procedure. Those exceptional account cases should not be confused with the normal, documented behavior of the relic quest.

The documented trial behavior concerns the weapons you carry into each wave. It removes those weapons while preserving perks, augments and the field upgrade. There is no normal trial action documented as deleting an already-unlocked Championship Belt or disabling another account relic. The belt is granted when you pick it up after the final wave, not when you enter the portal.
Why some older answers say the belt is bugged
Early community discussion questioned whether the relic was obtainable or whether failed attempts represented a bug. Treyarch was quoted by COD Central on June 4, 2026, saying the relic was “not bugged and never was.” The later solve recorded on October 16, 2026 identified the 18-counter requirement and the 50-kill threshold for each counter. That explains why attempts that appear to make no progress usually have an ordering or weapon-source mistake rather than a permanently broken relic.
